Hi guys, I recently played a hand in Pokerstars against an unknown (which I assumed was a decent player as the majority of the NL10 pool in Pokerstars)

I want to know if you consider my triple barrell correct in this spot. Here is the hand:

PokerStars - $0.10 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

SB: 103.6 BB (VPIP: 16.00, PFR: 11.18, 3Bet Preflop: 3.27, Hands: 877)
BB: 100 BB (VPIP: 26.98, PFR: 25.40, 3Bet Preflop: 15.38, Hands: 66)
UTG: 74 BB (VPIP: 13.58, PFR: 9.88, 3Bet Preflop: 2.86, Hands: 83)
Hero (MP): 100 BB
CO: 103 BB (VPIP: 22.71, PFR: 18.39, 3Bet Preflop: 7.57, Hands: 2,099)
BTN: 172.1 BB (VPIP: 25.00, PFR: 25.00, 3Bet Preflop: 20.00, Hands: 8)

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has J♥ J♠

fold, Hero raises to 3 BB, fold, BTN calls 3 BB, fold, fold

Flop: (7.5 BB, 2 players) 6♥ 9♦ Q♦
Hero bets 4.3 BB, BTN calls 4.3 BB

Turn: (16.1 BB, 2 players) 4♥
Hero bets 9.2 BB, BTN calls 9.2 BB

River: (34.5 BB, 2 players) A♣
Hero bets 14 BB

I used the scary Ace in the river and bet 14BB to get a fold from a Q of my opponent. Also, I thought if my opponent happens to be a weak opponent I could get a all from TT or even a stubborn 9.

I'm not showing the outcome of my bet to avoid biasing your opinions. What do you guys think about my play and what would you be doing against strong and weak opponents in a spot like this?

Regards,
Gabriel.

I kind of agree with your flop and turn bets.
I dont like your river merge. Also why do u expect him to fold a Q with such a small bet? Put yourself in his shoes. The guy bets into you 60% pot on Q high board twice and 40% on A river. Seems alot like a block bet (which it actually was). Lets say he has QJ. He has the right pot odds to call hoping you have QT or QJ for split.
Also if you check the river I dont see him betting a Qx so you probably have a good bluff catcher.

I think it is well played. One option would be to check the river but there are a lot of missed draws and I don't want to get bluffed by them so betting small and folding vs raise is ok.
When BTN just calls pre and calls you postflop I think he is most likely on a draw. He should 3bet many of the Ax and Qx hands he has and sets would raise at some point postflop.

No, that 4barrel is not good.

a) You have 2nd pair, why do you want to bluff for 3 streets?
b) Do you believe someone folds Qx for 1/3 pot on the river?

hero reps like Axs+ AQ+ somewhat plausibly, but my gut is to dislike this line of play. regardless of whether your bluff works in vacuum or not, this definitely doesn't seem like the right way to play JJ overall, and villain can def have AQ himself

OTT I would bet bigger (if we want to bet). OTR I don´t think villain would fold Q to your bet, it´s too small imo. Personally I would check/call or check/fold.

Thank you all for the replies.

I think that at a limit like 10NL in stars, there are plenty of decent regs who understand what a triple barrel means at these stakes, and are certainly capable of folding second pair. We also know that value bets in the river are usually smaller. In general people make it 1/3 pot or slightly over that, in order to avoid a fold that makes them miss a lot of value.

For all of the above, I still consdier that he will fold QJ and QT sometimes, and my bluff only has to work 28,6% of the time to be profitable!

Also, he will always fold the draws that he would have bet on the river sometimes, taking down the pot.

Any further thoughts?

Thanks again!

If you want to bet river, bet bigger...otherwise x/f or x/c OTR if you have enough odds to do so

Don't you think that a bigger bet would look bluffy?

Of course it all boils down to which level of play is my opponent at. But I think that if I want my bet to look like a value bet, it shouldn't be much larger than 1/3 pot. What do you think?

Seems like a straightforward Check call on flop or if you want to be cool cbet + check/decide on the turn.

You're also taking out half of his TJs combinations that will always fold along with 66% possible QJs which is a hand you are targeting here I assume as QTs probably folds pre most of the time. So yeah it's a pretty bad hand to pick to 3 barrel here I'd say and you should use something like 78s to 3 barrel or ideally hands like AKhh + fds etc. to barrel on the turn

And always use this in your checking range on the flop or turn
