Successful grinding so far

[x] 100 SnGs/MTTs this week, done, made even 111 and tomorrow I will do more

Made a little profit so far (detailed update on Monday), getting more and more familiar with ICM and the thinking in tournament equity and not just chips; first it was really strange, as a former cash game player I just couldn´t push something like 76o all in but as a Sit and Go player I have learned why it is sometimes necessary.

Most SnGs I played quite solid (I checked afterwards ICM) but oh boy, there are still a couple of bad calls, not even concerning ICM but just bad postflop play.

Here´s a bad example

Known Players:
MP3: 4670 - 78 bb
CO: 2388 - 40 bb
BU: 1650 - 28 bb
SB: 1390 - 23 bb
BB: 1902 - 32 bb

30/60 No Limit Hold'em Tournament (5 Handed)
Hand recorder for this hand: PokerStrategy.com SideKick 2.1.30121.1

Preflop: Hero is SB with K♣, Q♣
Hero posts small blind (30), BB posts big blind (60), Hero posts small blind (30), BB posts big blind (60), MP3 raises for 180, CO calls, BU folds, Hero calls, BB folds

Flop: (690 - 11.50 bb) Q♠ 8♥ 4♠ (3 Players)
Hero bets 450,
MP3 bets 4490 and is all in, CO folds,
Hero bets 730 and is all in, MP3 gets uncalled back (3310)

Turn: (3050 - 50.83 bb) 7♣ (2 Players)

River: (3050 - 50.83 bb) K♥ (2 Players)

That was bad play but I got lucky. Villain had AQ.

I have to practice to exploit Villains better, here I definitely have to get better. Sometimes I just think too much (according to the limits I play), Villains at those low limits are actually easily exploitable, they just bet according to their hand strength - at least: most of them. I have to spot those who are spewing their chips on marginal hands, those I can call even with something like TPTK when they push all in. Sometimes it happens that I make a bad call. I should work on that. I want to work on that hard, I would like to exploit Villains so well that I can win with any2.

I´m re-learning to sense fear, to sense weekness, getting more and more spots right, but I have to get better, so that I can just push Villain out of the pot with any2-something-whatever. Wow, I admire Gus Hansen, Phil Ivey and Vanessa Selbst who can read their Villains very well and push them out of the pot with whatever. I´m trying to do that from time to time and it´s really so much fun playing like that!

But in order to do that you need fold equity - which I don´t always have at the micros. Sometimes the games are a bit boring: waiting for a good hand, value betting, getting the chips all-in with the nuts, but you don´t get always the nuts....!! And you need chips, right? And some tournaments are soooooo :f_ugly::f_ugly::f_ugly: that you must just wait for a good hand..

The other point is when someone already has opened the pot. I made two bad pushes in this situation and of course: I ran into a better hand (and got a bit angry at myself :f_confused:). So I will practice those situations with ICM trainer, especially when I´m the shorty at the table. This doesn´t mean you have to gamble at any price! So, I know what I have to do about it:

Hello, ICM-Trainer, here I come and play with you. :f_p:

Another point is my bet sizing. I should work on that as well because I think I use to leave just too much value post flop, turn or river.

Like this:

Known Players:
MP1: 4660 - 12 bb
MP2: 1630 - 4 bb
MP3: 1965 - 5 bb
CO: 2507 - 6 bb

BB: 3865 - 10 bb

200/400 No Limit Hold'em Tournament (7 Handed)

Preflop: Hero is BB with A♠ J♣
SB posts small blind (200), Hero posts big blind (400), SB posts small blind (200), Hero posts big blind (400), MP1 calls, 5 folds, Hero checks

Flop: (1600 - 4 bb) A♥ A♦ 8♠ (2 Players)
Hero checks,
MP1 bets 400,

Turn: (2400 - 6 bb) 6♠ (2 Players)
Hero checks, MP1 bets 400, Hero calls

River: (3200 - 8 bb) 4♠ (2 Players)

I could have done at least a minraise at the turn and a small bet on the river.

By the way here I played TPTK like this because I had already reads on Villain, knowing that he/she is spewing chips with marginal hands. I knew I was way ahead on the flop.

I play from 0.1 to 1€. There´s often not enough traffic at one limit I play two or three limits in order to get enough sample size. :f_wink:

Played 22 SnG/DoN today, again, with a little plus. It´s so funny; some SnGs are plenty of :f_ugly: who spew chips and some are full of nits who refuse to play a hand before they are blinded down to 2BB stack. It´s getting now easier for me to stay focussed and play 6 tables for a longer time (my laptop doesn´t allow me to play more than 6 tables at once), I also get a kind of "feeling", when to push, when to fold and when to call. I want to study a bit more but at the moment it´s tough to find some time.

funny hand of the day

River: (3850 - 38.50 bb) T♥ (2 Players)

Villain showed A♠ A♦

I´m not proud of this hand. Villain was donking the flop all the time with marginal hands and then spewing chips. That´s the reason why I raised him. I tought my hand was good against his range and wanted to stack off.

*work: okay, December is going to be tough!

*health: Still sticking to my only-once-a-week-sweets-"diet". My daily diet is gluten free. I have celiac disease and so I have to stick on a diet anyway. I can´t eat certain kinds of grain like wheat, rye, barley and spelt, if I do so, I get sick; stomach ache, belly ache and diarr...:censored: Fast food like Burger King or McDonalds is not possible for me anyway.

Speaking of health and work out: I didn´t play poker yesterday - you know why? :roto2: I got tired after workout and wanted to relax a little bit before I hit the tables...and then...... I fell asleep ..._zZz: Guess my body and mind were asking for a rest.

Oh boy! Network problems here in Germany. Some hackers destroyed something. My internet connection comes and goes. So be careful with playing poker, people from Germany. Telekom has been hacked and caught a virus.

Back at the tables and update

On Fridays I quit work a bit earlier if it´s possible and today I could! Yay! So I started a nice SnG session and could even play two MTTs. My todays session was ....well....okay. A part of the game are suckouts of which I got a couple today. Slightly negative session today but not tragic. As long as I play my A game everything is fine. But there were also hands that went wrong:

Wrong play:

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, 0.11 Tournament, 100/200 Blinds (5 Spieler) - Party-Poker Converter Tool from http://de.flopturnriver.com/

Preflop: Hero ist SB mit 4♦, 4♥

Button had 8♥, 8♠ (two pair, Queens and nines).
Hero hatd:4d, 4♥ (two pair, Queens and nines).
Ergebnis: Button wins t2,500

44 is not good enough to push in a already opened pot even though I only have 5 BB. Crime against ICM, that was -EV! Great play, Prim, well done! :f_mad::facepalm:

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, 0.22 Tournament, 100/200 Blinds (4 Spieler) - Party-Poker Converter Tool from http://de.flopturnriver.com/Hand-Converter.php

Here, according to ICM this push is wrong. But this, I don´t understand. Have to figure out, why this push is wrong?

Pot: t4,620

Results:

In SnGs this should be a push any two spot? In DoN it is NOT! Well, next time I know and do it better.

Here´s a hand, that was weird:

Known Players:
MP2: 1700 - 17 bb
MP3: 2040 - 20 bb

Preflop: Hero is SB with Q♦ J♦
Hero posts small blind (50), BB posts big blind (100), Hero posts small blind (50), BB posts big blind (100), MP2 folds, MP3 calls, 2 folds, Hero calls, BB checks

Flop: (450 - 4.50 bb) Q♣ 9♦ 5♦ (3 Players)
Hero bets 150, BB folds, MP3 calls

Turn: (750 - 7.50 bb) 3♦ (2 Players)
Hero bets 300, MP3 bets 1790 and is all in, Hero calls

River: (4330 - 43.30 bb) 9♠: (2 Players)

Villain showed K♦ 6♦

Should I have found a tight fold at the turn? ...I knew Villain made his flush but in those limits they call often with anything-suited. A fold on the turn would be quite nitty I think?

I see; I have to work on my play as a short stack.

I can definitely tell that you're a writer with all the posts you've written, and a good one to boot. I like how you've made yourself a little poker diary on here and I can see other people are enjoying it, as well.

Being a freelance writer you'll need the mental escape that comes with playing online poker as writing is a mentally straining occupation if you're not writing about topics you enjoy. I'm hoping to earn extra cookie jar money from my games, but if I don't I'd be happy just being out of the negative in the bankroll while enjoying the thrill of the game. I miss going to casinos but they're too far from where I live.

I wish you the best of luck with the health and the game! :f_thumbsup:

Thank you very much! :f_thumbsup:

I´m sure you will earn cookie jar money from poker. That´s my goal, too, just some nice pocket money.

Normally I can write about things I really enjoy and I´m interested in because I´m specialized on medicine and science. That´s what I like very much! But indeed I like the creative stuff best, like copywriting. I hope I will get some good copywriting orders in 2017. At the moment I do ghostwriting which turned out to be very cool! First I thought: oh, man, boring but it turned out to be cool.

I´m happy that people enjoy reading this little diary. It´s meant to motivate (others and myself) and to improve my writing skills as well as my English. :f_thumbsup:

Here´s a brief update on health/sports:

1°C here. The streets are slippery and icy. This means: No cycling at the moment

Running becomes now very....uhm.....interesting...

I will just do it slowly and very carefully.

By the way I should do more weight training anyways, but ...really....I can´t stand it!! I love endurance sports or ball sports but weight lifting and strength training....OH NO! But it´s important for tennis and triathlon as well and I want a nice flat stomach where you can see some muscles (not sixpack). I have to admit: despite beeing quite slim I have a little bit of fat on my tummy, like a litte Wiener sausage. :f_biggrin: Want to get rid of it so I have to watch my diet and do strength training.

*sigh*

Did i really think I can get away so easily with my sweets withdrawal?

Then I should think again!

I feel horrible! Bad mood, hungry, sweating, weak (no it´s definitely NO panic attack!). My body now realizes that there´s really no more refined sugar available.

Guess I suffer a kind of withdrawal symptoms, ugh! :f_mad::wtf:

I worked out and even did strength training... I just get easily irritated (so don´t mess with me! :roto2: )

Great title for the blog. While I'm sure you're not a fish, the salmon part was very funny Good luck!

Thank you very much, Collin! :f_thumbsup:

Well guys, today it´s reporting day and I have to admit that last week I could just play 83 tourneys because very +EV is work at the moment:

*work: At the end of the year, many clients realize "oh, we still have money left" and what does that mean: orders and all of them URGENT (so, got a lot of writing to do and with the writing comes all the paperwork! Ugh!

*poker: That means also that December is definitely NOT gonna be a great grinding month for me. I decided to take it a bit easier. In January when the urgent projects are finished I will have more time to grind, study and analyze hands.

On Partypoker I´m doing fine (I guess):

On Everest I´m constantly running under my EV at the moment:

This s****!

Okay, on the long run it´s fine:

It´s hard to cope with a long phase running under EV. When it takes long it is quite hard to keep up motivation and play your A-game. I haven´t found out good psychological tricks yet, still searching ......

So. let´s come to week 3 of the bankroll challenge:

Tourneys played: 83
Hands: 2.839
Result: +0,48 €
Bankroll: almost the same as last week :f_biggrin:

*health/exercise: I feel better now, yesterday, like every Sunday was my cheating day I had 1 bar of chocolate and (gluten free) croissants for breakfast. That was nice. Last week I went 1x 40 min swimming (plus strength training), 2x 45-55 min running (plus strength training) and 1x 2 hours of tennis. I´m eating now much more veggies and fruit. :f_thumbsup:

So, now I know why I was constantly tired and sleepy during the last couple of days, my immune system is very busy fighting:

It´s flu season here and I got infected. Fortunately I don´t have fever so at least I could do my work.

I´m having tea made of fresh ginger (warms you up from the inside, helps and strengthens the immune system) with lemon (vitamin C, helps the immune system as well) and honey and let my body do the work.

I can´t believe - but this push was - EV!

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, 0.11 Tournament, 100/200 Blinds (6 Spieler) - Party-Poker Converter Tool from http://de.flopturnriver.com

Button (t1,880)
Hero (CO) (t1,850)
SB (t1,450)
MP (t1,840)
UTG (t1,770)
BB (t3,210)

Hero's M: 6.17

Preflop: Hero ist CO mit A♠, Q♥
UTG calls t200, MP calls t200, Hero raises to t1,850 (All-In), Button raises to t1,880 (All-In), 1 fold, BB (poster) calls t1,680, 2 folds

Flop: (t6,410) K♣, T♠, 2♠

Turn: (t6,410) 7♥

River: (t6,410) K♦

Gesamt Pot: t6,410

Button had 7♦, 7♣ (full house, sevens over Kings).
BB had 6♥, 6♣ (two pair, Kings and sixes).
Hero had A♠, Q♥ (one pair, Kings).

Probably because it was a Double or Nothing and my position? ?(?(?(

At least my hand reading skills and my preflop play get better. It´s always good to get the pot pre or without showdown in order to avoid swings. I got inspired by another blog called something like "keep up your red line". I think this is a very good approach. So I´m working on the "any-two-can-win"-skill I already mentioned here and I have the feeling it´s getting better. Today I could collect a couple of pots holding just crap. _biggrin:

Won today exactly the same amount as yesterday, isn´t that funny? :f_biggrin:
