[1€ DON 10-max]: AKo - how would you have played?

With 19BB I am shoving pre flop, if you dont want to shove then definitely 3bet and call a shove.
With so many still people who will have position on you still to act, you can get in some weird spots OOP by calling

As played, once you bet you have to call his shove

ICM is off course nasty in DON’s, but I don’t think you can do much else then shoving and you have a decent amount of fold equity still against his range.

Fold equity? uhm, that´s the good question.... in 0.1 - 1.10 € tourneys you don´t have much. The recreational players usually do not fold pairs, two facecards, aces with bad kickers or suited broadways. So one has to be very careful. This Villain was completely unknown. I have moved up just recently. Villains nickname und picture indicated an elderly family man, so very probably a recreational player. He raises UTG+2.

My thoughts:

* a raise at this position indicates a range: AJ+, TT+, QKs
* I hold AKo at UTG+3, there are still 7 players who will act behind me
* Chance to hit the flop for AK is 33.33%
* If someone behind me wakes up with a premium hand or jams with whatever, it´s an easy fold and I did not waste too many chips (remember: it´s a DON!!!), that´s why I didn´t 3-bet (In a Sit and Go I would do so)
* So let´s just call and see the flop
*BB calls too

* Villains check and I probably hold the best hand here with TPTK

*Villain UTG+2 check-raises now and based on the range I put him on (see above) I still assume I have the best hand

* The question is: Would he have folded 99 if I had jammed? If not I would have had a coinflip which is -EV at the early stage of any SnG, especially DoN.

Those thoughts are probably all correct, but you still only have 19BB and at the micros you have a great chance of him calling your shove with a weaker

Even if I widen his open to 22+,A2s+,ATo+,K9s+,KJo+,QTs+,JTs, you only call QQ+

Personally I shove, ICMizer says fold, but I think call is probably the worst option

Pre I definitely should have fired a 3-bet.... and found a tight fold on the flop....
