The phrase "The more I work, the luckier I get" was transformed to "The less I work, the unluckier I get" :f_frown: I was quite happy with my game in all 3 tournaments of Eureka Prague festival, but couldn't cash in any event. So frustrating when the old lady sits next to you barely knowing the rules, but the cards just don't want you to win :f_biggrin: Overall strength of the pool was surprisingly very low, don't know if it's only in Prague or in all Eureka events. Anyone of You guys have ever been to those festivals?

I would go ahead and say yes, especially for lower buy and larger field tourneys.

If You are talking about qualifier to London, then I finished 3rd :f_confused: But the prize was almost equal to the next stage anyway :) You plan to play in that festival?

Good Day Grinders!

As 2016 have passed by, it's time to take a quick review if the planned goals were reached. I've started this blog one year ago with 7 main goals and here is the progress of it:

1. Work out into WSOP 2016 - 0,5 point

On the one hand, I failed this because until the summer I didn't reach even 5k goal. However, the effort I put in the first months were rewarded in the another half of the year. I hope to maintain my form into 2017 so I wouldn't miss Las Vegas this time _wink:

2. Reaching Black Member Status on PokerStrategy - 0 point
This one I failed by a lot _confused: Legislation in my country, Lithuania, changed a weeks after I set my goals, leaving only one small official poker site to play legally. And surely PokerStrategy doesn't track that _biggrin: I didn't want to risk my money playing on banned site, so not so much Strategypoints in 2016 :f_confused:

3. Visit 6 countries playing poker - 1 point
March - Malta
April - Bulgaria
May - Greece
August - Estonia
November - Morocco
December - Czech Republic

Finally my first fulfilled goal :f_thumbsup: I've highlighted 2 of trips, as I grabbed some success in them. My 1st international trophy and a mark in Hendon database came in Bulgaria, Sofia where I won Bulgaria Poker Cup. Then a televised Final Table and a 3rd place podium in MPN Estonia event, with my biggest career winnings in a live event so far. The bar is raised high for 2017 :f_cool:

4. Shift my weight towards 85 kg - 0,5 point
At this minute I weight 82 kg (In January it was 76,8), which is not enough for a whole point. I need to eat more porridge, I guess _mad:

5. Rewatch PokerStrategy Psychology videos - 0,5 point
Guilty of not finishing the job. I was on a halfway of all videos when for some reason I stopped it. Need to refocus this year!

6. Read 12 books not related to poker - 1 point
Made this goal and I already bought some books for 2017! Half of them were psychology related (Which helped me a ton in my general life) and some were old classic. Old is G'old as they say _thumbsup:

7. Set up a football team - 1 point
I would give myself more than 1 point if I could :f_biggrin: Not only "Football Club Top Kickers" were established but we managed to get bronze and a promotion for a higher league in our 1st season. More than I expected and hopefully more still to come _thumbsup:

So overall score
4,5 points scored / 7 points possible --> ~65%

To conclude, not all my personal goals were reached and not all the goals were properly set. I will read some other players blogs about their goals in 2017 and try to include the most appealing into mine as well. So far I watched couple of videos about Goal Setting and all of them reflect to SMART goals (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely). More on this topic in my next post, so stay tuned _grin:

And Finally, I wish You all a good start for 2017! Let the Game begin _thumbsup:

Thanks guys :f_thumbsup:

I only play for Sunday satellites, so 4 opportunities a month at best. I don't have exact calculations but I would guess that every 3rd satellite brings me success. To be honest, I do feel having a big edge in those tournaments as it is more complicated as the normal MTT. You have to change gears in so many spots, and not many players adapt to that correctly.

Btw, I never buy a full price for a final satellite as I try to get a ticket from 10$ Rebuy qualifier. So I guess a package costs me around 150-200$ on average :f_ugly:

PokerStrategy offers lots of material about making goals - 25 videos, total length close to 10 hours. Because I want 2017 to be great, I dare myself to watch them by the end of next week and then shape my goals. Today I completed 10 parts of "Setting and reaching Goals" and made plenty of notes on my papers. Some of the tips:

Define clear goals
Put them on paper
Set yourself a deadline
One step every day
Visualize Your goals

Everest 1st - complete your most important tasks in the morning
Set attractive goals
Deny small rewards now for the bigger ones later
Avoid stress by working on Your goals everyday
Enhance Your workplace atmosphere
Break down your goals into some pieces (Salami technique or Swiss cheese method)
Invest in Yourself everyday (books, lessons)
Be positive and optimistic

You should plan Your day in "Piece of Time", and for me it is the morning time. In one of the articles it was written that Your Day Plan should include 60% of tasks, 20% of Social life and 20% of buffer. That means You should put around 10 hours of work (mostly poker, but not only it) into day, leaving 3 hours to Social life and 3 hours to rest/complete tasks.
For the past years, I was using a very simple self-made schedule, which I try to input at the start of the day.

It took me some time before I mastered it, but now I'm very happy with the way of planning and more importantly the way of implementing it. When You form a perfect plan, everything goes smoothly then and all tasks look like a piece of cake :challenge:

If You don't trust me, listen to Jared Tendler! PokerStrategy just published a short article about setting goals. Enjoy the reading _cool:
