888 Poker - 50/100 Ante 10 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 4 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

SB: 11.55 BB (VPIP: 28.57, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 21)
Hero (BB): 13.58 BB
CO: 21.31 BB (VPIP: 85.71, PFR: 10.53, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 21)
BTN: 43.56 BB (VPIP: 38.10, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 21)

4 players post ante of 0.1 BB, SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.9 BB) Hero has 2♦ A♠

fold, BTN calls 1 BB, fold, Hero checks

Flop: (2.9 BB, 2 players) 7♠ 2♣ A♣
Hero checks, BTN bets 1 BB, Hero calls 1 BB

Turn: (4.9 BB, 2 players) 9♣
Hero checks, BTN bets 1 BB, Hero raises to 6.17 BB, fold,

Is it better to raise the flop to build the pot and protect our hand against possible draws?

I would bet this flop right away with 2 pair. No need to give him a free card and you could miss value against a fishy player like him.

Cheers,

villain seems to be fishy, so I would go for a lead here as well.
As played I would love to know the reasoning about your raise ott.

Leading the flop off course. I think that was already clear from my first post.

I will lead the flop or if you expect him to bet mostly I will cr for value and continue with leading the other streets.

I believe leading the Flop often you get more calls than other streets where suspicion is bigger.
In addition, you are OOP and that makes slowplaying harder.
Just bet out; players with an A or even some broadway or a middle pair will probably call.
Especially if you do that with less than monsters you're much harder to get read.
I would check the Flop only with an unbreakable hand like a Full+
