Basically, The Deal is slightly profitable if you only play once for 7 StarsCoins exactly every 12 hours, because every time when the jackpot hits, half of it is split evenly among everyone who has played The Deal in the preceding 12 hours, independently of how many coins they bet. Then every few days you'll get a share of the jackpot which is usually $1-3. So of course no living can be made out of it but many Russian-speaking community members appreciate it as a nice additional source of income.

Investing any coins above those 7 coins per 12 hours into The Deal can deliver fun to some but it's then -EV like any casino game.

Anyone watched the first episode new series, just dropped on Netflix? Slow one, but still the best show on TV right now

Rewatched this last night. I'm the only one who didnt like the CGI, but I have to say it's a great Star Wars movie, love both the new movies so far

Hi Barry,

Excellent blog and I look forward to reading future posts. :f_thumbsup:
Good luck in your bankroll challenge and especially with all your health goals too :gl:

Completely unrelated to poker but I blog separately about a subject I find fascinating - how the internet is changing us psychologically.

After reading your blog on Connectivity expectation I wonder if you have heard of a really good series that was aired in the UK called Black Mirror?

Featuring stand-alone dramas -- sharp, suspenseful, satirical tales that explore techno-paranoia -- "Black Mirror" is a contemporary reworking of "The Twilight Zone" with stories that tap into the collective unease about the modern world.

One of the best episodes titled Nosedive (Season 3 Episode 1) is exceptionally scary and somewhat hilarious too. By far my favorite of the series.

Regards

Matt

You are speaking my language my man, I love Black Mirror, think it's one of the most important shows in TV right now.

These were the two episodes that really had an impact on me

Ditto this one

If you like Black Mirror, this book is a must read, several episodes have been linked to it in some way

New series is coming soon on Netflix I hear

Wow, really very nice to see this! :f_thumbsup: Only saw this now thanks to SvenBe =)

Great opening post, Barry. And well written too

Charlie looks like amazing dog friend. I love him. I´d readily give him my last BigMac....

The communist party donation made me laugh, good luck with staying fit. Generally playing a lot of poker is not great for staying fit, so I hope you will manage to win on both tracks, staying fit and getting better in Spins. Talking about Spins, I wish you lot of persistence. I myself tried it and ended up losing all the time, I think it´s quite common that "VIPs of the past" (like two of us) will fail at giving it enough patience and resilience which is so much needed (much more than in the past). So I hope you will not hate your life doing this.... ;)

btw weight lifting does not sound like the best thing for knees. It might be better to focus on lot of power walking. 4x per week 30 mins and adding 5 minutes every 2 weeks. Very boring but perhaps better for losing weight and staying fit.

Good luck!!

Don't see any reason not to sub this one :f_drink: The Mental Game of Poker is really a guideline for me and my life. I have made the best choices in life about all kinds of stuff (poker, studies, interests, friends/family, etc.). Thanks for that :f_thumbsup:

BTW, losing weight is with me also now the hot topic. However, I think nowadays we want to focus on losing fat percentages instead of weight. Weight is very relative because you can eat every day a hamburger at McDonald's and still lose weight whilst fat percentage increases by a lot. I think an interesting read is when you dig more into glucose, glycogen, and carbohydrates. These are all forms of sugar or that your body will convert into sugar. People mistake here a lot about what they think is good while it's not always good for you.

Anyway, good luck on the journey and look forward reading more of you :f_thumbsup:

Cheers,

Hesticus :f_drink:

Like owner, like dog, he is also on a diet, only needs to lose maybe 2kg but when he looks at you with those big sad eyes, you give him the last big mac.

Yeah I wont be putting in long hours, but I will be playing with a standing desk, so there is that.

Good luck!!

The thing is, I power walk, kinda, twice a day every day with the dog for well over an hour a day, so I need to do more than that. But yeah, my knees are my early warning signal for if I am overdoing things.

Man it's sad talking about my knees, LOL old guy stuff.

Barry, for weight loss, download MyFitnessPal app and input your meals and drinks. Aim to create calorie deficit by as much you can handle because that is the only real math behind loosing weight. I had phenomenal results with MFP but as with everthing, you have to be disciplined and stick with it. I also found that creating menu in advance that fits your macros for calorie deficit helps greatly. I now know exactly how many calories my favorite meals have and macros. Finally, it helps to dig in and ask someone to prepare you these meals with your preference for certain things. So omit oil, sugar or anything that adds to carbs and fats. Focus on protein food that has less calories but gives you a lot of energy (eggs 1st, fish 2nd then chicken!).

If you need help with MFP let me know, I will be going on weight loss as well soon so you can follow my process from May as well.

GL HF :)

Yes I use it religiously thanks.

Just a bit of background on me and weight, when I was a teen I was really big, about 239lbs (I'm 5ft 10)

I got to about 22 and started taking care of myself, started running and got down to 182lbs. Thankfully this also meant I no longer repelled women, and although I would go up and down, I never went back up to being really heavy. I'd go up to maybe 205lbs, but then redouble my fitness efforts and get back down again, usually with a short term goal (like fitting in my wedding suit).

It's only since the knee thing that I've gone back up.

So to some extent, I know what to do. I calorie count and make sure my protein is high, my carbs are as low as I can get them etc. I'm very active for somebody who works from home. But you are totally right, the food is the real difference maker.

One big difference these days, sadly, is my energy levels are lower at the gym which I mostly put down to being 37 and not 23 anymore. I'm hoping I'm wrong and it's the extra weight I am carrying.

Sure does suck ass to be blaming my age on stuff

Oh, what a news masterpiece did you write to praise Spin & Gos :f_cool:

It's worth adding, though, that:

1. I'd really prefer some 'card selection' mechanics like in The Deal (where one gets to pick 2 cards to remove, which of course changes nothing in terms of probability), e.g. where each player picks a card from the face down deck and the combination of the 3 cards yields a multiplier, as opposed to the spin of the slot. Picking a card allows a recreational to feel bigger control over the situation and less likely to consider the multiplier selection process rigged. I'd definitely adore it if Stars changed the multiplier selection this way.

2. Stars' structure of Spin multipliers is for nits :f_biggrin: - the probabilities of the top jackpots are so small that not hitting them yields only a <1% deficit in the overall ROI.

I can imagine you writing another article about 'The Mental Game of Blast' (the 888poker version of Spin & Gos), which is a whole new dimension of Spins - a hybrid of them and Beat The Clock*. Or at least 'The Mental Game of Microgaming's Timed HUSNGs' (or whatever they're called). And I know that the timer in Blast (the fact that all the players are automatically put all-in once 6/8/10 minutes elapse, with no deal possible, as opposed to an automatic chip chop in Beat The Clock) makes a lot of regs soooo uncomfortable and is thus a very efficient 'reg repellent' :f_drink: (as I call it; that's a word play on 'nit repellent').

The fact that the number of places paid depends on the multiplier in Blast is a decent 'reg repellent' too, as both HUSNG / Spin and STT regs have to learn to play under a payout structure yet unfamiliar to them - HU'ers need to learn ICM and STT'ers need to learn ranges in the chip EV mode - in order to be successful. On the other hand, this variety of structures makes many groups of SNG fans feel like home, as they can experience a familiar payout schedule at least once in a while.

* Well, on a historical note, though Stars' scheduled 'Time Tournaments' predate 888's BLAST, an older version of time-limited tournaments with fast-fold dealing have been 888's BreakFAST! tournaments ($1 SNAP MTTs that run during every synchronised MTT break but not at other times of the hour, where 1 rebuy is possible - a later addition, iirc - and the all-in phase starts after 6 minutes) that appeared at about the same time (July 2016) as Blast. Beat The Clock appeared later than BreakFAST!, though it's very probable that they had been developed independently of each other.

Happy Easter, I hope you have a nice time!
