Slight back injury - muscle pull

Yesterday had hardest training since I restarted working with my Sensei. During one of the exercises I pulled a muscle in my back and got the pain because of it. By the end of the training and later in the day, pain went away however! This morning I woke up and in the exact spot back pain came back. Despite warming up (stretching) and doing cool down, this muscle is still pulled and it affects me a bit. I get distracted because when I want to do sudden movement (get up from the chair, bend over to pick up something in the home or tie shoe laces) I get this trobing knife like pain in that area.
Considering to go to massage place today as alternative solution to relax and "break" that pain. From experience though, as this kind of thing happens frequently to me, it takes several days for pain to completely go away and for my back to feel as new.

Any ideas guys? Do any of you have back problems from working out or in general? If so, how do you deal with it best and fastest?

Appreciate your opinions!

Other then the muscle pull in the back, I did excellent work out yesterday which pushed me outside of my zone of comfort - which is always great. Feeling very connected to my mission with nutrition and work outs now. I want to work out tomorrow despite this pain, hopefully pain will go away tomorrow or at least be there with less extent.

lately got similar problem , in my case with shoulder blade mostly ,
i think give it a rest for few days and than start stretching muscle that you pulled, to me it was mostly neck and shoulder blade stretch

the one with tennis ball is very effective in my case

But waitress or stripper? Don´t think so. They can´t intellectually keep up with you and normally can only talk about fashion, beauty and ...you know ...some simple topics, while an intelligent woman understands you. And don´t forget: An intelligent woman can make money herself, so you can be sure that she´s no gold digger ("sugar baby"), while with a woman who earns not much you have to fear. You cannot be sure why she´s with you: because of YOU or your winnings.

I vote of an intelligent woman!

I vote for honest, direct, caring, loving ASIAN woman with inspirations in life for something other then looks or too get married well. It helps if she comes from honorable family (discipline, integrity, the way she was brought up and taught values) as well as if she has strong maternal instincts.
It doesn't hurt if she has great sense of humor because I like to troll and joke a lot, has adventure spirit (will travel with me and explore places and adventures), and it would be icing on the cake if she has stripper body with perfect smile and face

If you know of such Asian woman, refer her to me. Thanks :profit::truestory:

She is not my type totally but I like that she has a very nice sense of humor. I can definitely see myself hanging out with her. She would probably become my wing woman, pick me up other Asian girls :f_biggrin:

That's it man, this is exact problem that I have, upper left muscle pulled.
In the past, my Sensei gave me baseball and I used it to press against the wall and then slide up and down and target that area. It helped a lot and today I actually went out and bought baseball (cost close to 7 euro - WTF?!?!) and I did that exercise now and I feel much less pain.
I had to cancel today's training session with Sensei because I still felt the pain but now I already feel better and ready. By Sunday (for next training) I will be super ready because I will do this 2 times a day, after I wake up and before the bed.

Thanks for sharing this great video and valuable information!

Excellent link man!

For lower back pain I found that several key stretches helped me a lot:
- Downward and upward dog (poses from Yoga but super effective for your lower back)
- Hip thruster exercise (you push through your feet/heels and try to reach maximum point in the air making a bridge like effect while your arms are locked on the side - it works lower back very good!)
- Lying down and taking both legs curlying them into ball bringing them to your chest. Do this slowly and then apply pressure, it will create light tension in the lower back, like a massage of a sort.
- Use foam roller or tennis/baseball and lie on it, slide up and down, and target area that is under tension
- Sitting down with straight back, bring knees down to the ground 90 degrees from each other and from that position move them first to the middle (just like you regularly sit on the ground) then on the next side and without help of hands using your hips get up and push hips in. Do this one with arms in front of you at all times. Excellent balance/GTO exercise. I will try to find some video of it and share it with you here.
- Scorpions. Hold hands to the ground and try to lock your back on the floor. Then, take one leg and get it in the air and to the opposite side (so right leg going to left) aiming to touch high point (your chest level but not touch chest but rather further from it). Alternate legs and do it on the back as well. This is kick ass exercise.

I found that if its light strain in the lower back, doing upward and downward dog (but pushing really) helps a lot. After it my lower back gets up when I am just warming up in training. Also Scoprions help me a lot every single time so I would start with those + massage with tennis ball and then move to the others if that doesn't help you as much.

Anyways, hope I gave you some new ideas how to tackle this problem that most of us have since we spent a lot of time in chairs (very likely with bad posture as well) in front of computers.

Sorry to hear about the 6max deal! I got the Twitch follow BTW, assume its from you (den...?).
Lets talk soon about it all. I want to hear 1st what your intentions (sessions, study, grind, overall poker vs other life things) and expectations (how much money you expect to win monthly, which limits do you feel you can play and win, what do you expect to win and play in 1 year time, what hourly do you expect to achieve within 1 year, how many tables do you expect to play in near future comfortably, what you feel is realistic profit expectation in 1 year etc) are before we start doing any real sessions.
Sent you friend request but also have you on FB so it could be faster to exchange info there :)

Story about Phuketinho

I wanted to make this update about my best friend Phuketinho who I also coach (since 20th of February 2017) how to become poker professional and make a living playing Spins.

After 20th of February 2017, we arranged to start working together for me to teach him how to beat spins. Before Spins, Phuketinho had only experience with 6 max SNGs where he was playing 1.5$ on Stars mainly, playing 2 - 4 tables being profitable player. Of course, SNGs vs Spins are huge different because SNGs pay you out whenever you enter HU vs Spins where you have to crush HU games thus post flop becomes super important. Bubble exist in SNGs which helped Phuketinho a lot because he studied the pre flop ranges and knows them by memory but in Spins every player fits certain profile and he had to learn to adapt to those player types which requires multiple game plans which requires a lot of practice.
I am confident to say that Phuketinho when entered our deal had very little to none post flop knowledge and was also behind with pre flop as well. Now, his knowledge 3.5 months later has skyrocketed. Just between 1st of May and now, he posted 93 hands with full thinking process on our private forum. I responded to all his hands with range vs range break down as well as bet sizing adjustments. He started to play 0.25 cent games on 20th of February, now (3.5 months later) he is 2 tabling 7$ Spins with over 70 cEV on over 40 hours grind in June. His evBB is over 11 which is excellent and despite these results - he still has things to work on and improve of course.

What I am most proud of is that he within 100 days of working together proved to himself that he can make a living playing poker and that he is already very close to reaching target profit we set of 4.5k with current cEV and hourly - he just needs to put in the grind and money will keep coming. With additional work, his hourly will keep increasing and he will easily enter 1k+ months which I very much look forward to as I know he will feel over the moon with this accomplishment!

I wish I had a coach as he has me as a coach now. We do frequent sweat sessions in our favorite coffee place (several times per week) and I take on average 20 minutes to respond in depth with Range vs Range analysis for each hand he posts and discuss how to play facing different actions or sizing's as well as run outs. Even though this is very time consuming, I do it because I know it brings insane value to Phuketinho and he can always come back to that hand type or texture and understand how to play as aggressor or defend. Also, this kind of response clears a lot if not all the doubts in Phuketinho's head how to play hands that fall under different categories which is super important to understand one's whole range and how it works post flop.

I took with my cell phone picture yesterday at his place, and this is his results for 7$ Spins in June so far.

I very much look forward to what kind of things he will accomplish by the end of this year. I feel that he will be ready to play 15s and win there as well if he continues to daily do HH reviews and post hands on forum with full thinking process. His stats reading and adjusting has also improved tremendously both pre and post flop and his post flop game plan is light years ahead of what it was 100 days ago (which basically was zero as he was not sure what hands to bet IP for value and bluff on textures).
So watch out, success story in the making and I am sure he will continue to move forward as he is very motivated to prove to himself and to me that he can do this.

Interesting part of this story is that towards the end of May I considered ending our work together because he didn't do exact number of hands that I assigned him for whole month. He asked me for extension (since it was his 1st month of doing in depth HH analysis and posting hands on our private forum) and I reconsidered and gave him 2nd chance. Now he posts hands daily and picks very interesting spots and run outs that cause 99% of players problems how to play their whole ranges. His thinking process has evolved light years vs what it was when we started and I wish I had a coach such as myself to spoon feed me system and strategy for pre and post flop for range construction and bet sizings (I had to do it the hard way - 5 years of poker SNGs, HU Hypers, CG, Spins now!!!). So he is definitely on the right path and I am excited that he is hooked to grind (plays 100+ hours every month past 3 months) and to study and do hands (which is where the biggest improvement lies).

Proud of my best friend Phuketinho - keep it up! :profit::truestory:9♣:5♣:

Professor, thank you for all so far, and for the 2nd chance the most! I understand that I got it because we are best friends and if that was not case, I assume it would be different story. It is very important thing for me, as you know, and I will truly give my best not to disappoint you because I know what you expect from me and i don't want waste your time. It is still a lot of work in front and days are short, so nothing else but work on brain capacity, work on post flop and grind... It is a pleasure to have you for friend and coach!
I hope you will get out of the vacation mode as soon as possible, because I think you are missing huge value by doing such a thing... 30s are waiting for you. Come on, Prof.! It' s time! (Bruce Buffer voice) 5♣:5♣:5♣:! and I don't want to use Western Union again!

Gang, just to share how 30s are going so far:

Still very low sample but I am feeling confident 3 tabling them. Invested time doing DB analysis and doing tons of HH reviews + adjusted game plan and things seem to be clicking. I am more often then not ahead or correct when betting or getting called so its looking good. Think I can get to 60cEV 3 tabling but 1st I want on larger sample (4-5k+ games) to have this 50cEV as minimum.

Will update later today and respond to your posts + share some new and exciting info!

Those are very useful, thanks for sharing. I am feeling much better thanks to that baseball for massage and then every training with Sensei we stretch in both warm up and cool down so my back is feeling much better this past week. Tomorrow have another training (will do pull ups there) and see how my back will react to pull ups program. Should be lots of fun!

You welcome but we are just getting started. I want you to prove to yourself that 7s and 15s are your place of printing money in this year. You have everything available to you, keep working hard and great things will come. Be patient when variance starts to turn, work on injecting logic and do hands daily (in depth, range vs range and sizings as well as different scenario practice). I have no doubt you will make it just don't be satisfied with beating 7s. You have potential to go much higher because you love the game and enjoy playing it so take advantage of it fully.

Make it before end of this year because Flower aka I give Ass is waiting in Phuket

Couple of key things to update on

Poker Related
- New student
- New habit building for PIO study
- Building slowly grind habit
- Studying daily

New Student
Today I started working with Mo from Germany. We arranged 30 sessions in advance and due to his willingness to commit I decided to provide him even more value then I initially offer in the deal. One of the key things is besides those 30 sessions, Mo will have access to private forum password protected that just two of us can access, where he can post 100 hands free of charge included in the deal. This by itself in my opinion is worth all the sessions that he committed to because to do in depth range vs range, discuss sizings and adjustments (different game plans) takes 20ish minutes per hand minimum. I decided to offer this as additional value because I know just like to Phuketinho, Mo will benefit the most with this approach. All the doubts that he has about certain texture, specific hand type, run outs or bet sizing, he will clear up by going through those 100 hands.
Our work will therefore focus on several areas in those 30 sessions: 1) Game plan adaptations pre and post flop for each position and spot 2) HH reviews 3) Live play 4) Range vs Range study in PIO 5) 100 hands in depth analyzed on forum
I am happy to say that 1st session with Mo went great, he seemed very happy and pleased and I am glad that I am able to help and bring his game to a higher level.

New habit building PIO study
Today I did work with my friend in PIO. We covered in depth 1 of the textures that on different stakes people play differently and there is all kinds of opponents that defend on it differently. We picked 2 effective stack depths and got both optimal ranges as well as how to adjust vs different types of opponents. Results cleared doubts in certain spots but I was happy to enter the session with certain expectations that PIO proved to be correct in all kinds of scenarios which makes me happy.
Our habit for PIO will continue to build on Tuesday at 11am for starters and then eventually increase it to 2 and more times per week. We need this to keep increasing our edges in today's games and to stay ahead of the curve. And not just that but to overall clear any doubt on any texture when it comes to range vs range and to have full control so that hourly increase will skyrocket at one point.

Building slowly grind habit
June has been very slow for grind. Lots of life activities, mostly great things happening. I can list about 10 ongoing life things but it would sound as an excuse or a brag. Instead I will say this. I am having still trouble making my 2nd part of the day productive because my energy levels are lower, hence I don't want to grind then because I am not fully focused. So I am working on fitting for starters 3 sessions during the day with idea to make them stick and become habit at exact same times. The problem with this is because on different days I have training sessions and different times and also guitar and music lessons mix so that makes it difficult to do it. I am however getting better understanding of how I am living life in June and where potential time slots are to start fitting 3 grind sessions in June and then in July increase to 4 and keep 4 while keeping studying going. I will report on this towards the end of month as my current intention is to focus on this more and get it rolling soon.

Studying daily
I am thirsty for knowledge and I use any oportunity outside of life things to look at some of my hands or go through HH posted on our private forum or simply set scenarios and practice range vs range and then set it for PIO to check results. I don't remember last time I felt this confident about my current knowledge and that has to do with working smart and focusing on things that improve my game and bring results while seeking to find systematic way to check it all and improve it.

Life/Health Related
- Weight loss going well
- Workouts are getting more intense
- Dating is at pimp level

Weight loss
I am at 87kgs, basically dropped 1kg in past week. My calorie intake is bellow 1.5k daily and I focus on 1 day a week to have higher intake which mostly happens when I go to cinema. I am super motivated and focus on eating protein heavy now with habit of eating close to the exact same times each day. (9:30, 11, 15:30). Look forward to 4 weeks from now as I expect to be 83kgs by then.

Workouts
I am starting to have more intense work outs. Still out of shape for running but for using Rows I am entering my old form. I am doing well with squats as well as with ab type exercises but I am having harder time with push ups. 2 training's I did 50 of them combined with other exercises and I got standard muscle pain 2 days later (takes over 24h for muscle pain to kick in). So after last training which I kicked ass for time, I expect 1 month from now or 12 training's from now to get to a much better form then I am now. Tomorrow I will do Pull Up program as both warm up and cool down to main training. Very much look forward to it as Pull Ups are my favorite exercise and they keep me fired up to train and work hard to improve my body.

Dating
Its super weird to talk about this but its like series of events lead me to a position where I can choose multiple very hot and attractive woman to go out with, have fun with or basically do whatever I want. When I look deeper, I see that I was setting communication and priorities from start very solid with them and eventually they all came around and now want to see me daily. I am currently seeing one super hot girl but I am not expecting anything to develop deep from it since my life priorities are very different vs hers - so I am just enjoying my time with her. There are however others that are closer to what am and what I stand for so I can see myself more with them in the future. To fit dating with poker (studying, playing and teaching), music (playing and teaching), healthy lifestyle (eating right), working out 3-4 times per week is very difficult. At times it feels hectic and weird but at other times its super smooth flowing and necessary. So I am enjoying it to the max and will keep doing so.

Long update just to let you know whats up lately.

Enjoy your June on and off the tables!

totally agree with you i think baseball or tennis ball or any other ball its just amazing and from now on will do it all the time,
about back pinching pain have to say that video where you don't bend forward and lay down on you stomach works and only bend backward , that really works and i start feeling better: first day did just few backward bends, mostly lay down on my stomach,
than on second day did much more backward bends, every hour 5-10, and i think it was little too much for me, because today was feeling muscles sore in my back and spend all day with hot pack on my back, but the pinching nerve pain almost goes away,
so i can recommend that method, just don't overdo backward bends at the start and it may also help you back

good luck with game and with girls :f_drink:

how's your posture behind the pc while grinding? If you sit bend over, or just bad. Your upperback muscles are basicly constantly "on" so that you arm doesn't 'fall off', (of course this would never happen because all the tissues etc), but your back muscles are constantly in an lengthened position. Which gives nagging shoulder/back pain. And makes it more prone for injury when it actually does have to do something(like pick something up like you did).
I can't make an assessment on how your shoulder blades are moving over the interwebs, but i'd guess they're a bit wonky.(as most computer users have).
I'd add some reverse flies and 1arm bent over rows in your programm if the problems persists.

Yes!
We did 2 sessions so far and are just scratching the surface. I am very happy with his homework, questions and participation in sessions so far. Look forward to what his development will be like after 30 sessions and 100 hands with full thinking process!
