its Big 109 doll

not a lot to say
but i tanked a bit and called
his shove is in my eyes just a punter move if he got TT+ ok well done you deserve my chips i guess this time.....so an appropriate logic would sound like
with all hands he is comfortable to play post in pos. does he shove theese like that? maybe if there is tingeltangelbob from the simpsons playin
otherwise its just very stupid bec u just give your opponets zero room to capitalize on medium hands....
and ok this was a flip and gained may not the world in comparison to busting....but always good to take a risk to set up for good position in this tourney... thats worth it for me....althought its not my stakes and i satalited into it....i dont like to play scared money bec it doesnt make money

First, I have moved your hand to the hand discussion board, because it’s fits better there.
Also, it’s smart to remove the outcome of the hand or put it in a spoiler.

Weird shove of the BTN, but I expect he isn’t pushing to many better hands like this with his 32bb stack and 99 is I think an easy call against his shoving range. If he would show a hand like QQ+ I would make a note of it.

Cheers,

I think your logic is sound, however I would have a hard time calling off on what i most likely a coin flip when I have 35BB as I think I can wait of better spots.

Agree with everyone. He has a 14pfr, so in this situation villain with this many BBs could be pushing fewer hands,so we can narrow it down to 10% taking out AA,KK,QQ and AKs, which I think he will not shove in this situation. Leaves us with JJ-77, A9s+, KTs+, QTs+, ATo+, KQo. Against this range we are mostly flipping. So in this situation I would quickly open replay and watch other hands where he went to showdown, if he did some crazy stuff before I would call, if not I would fold and continue with my 35bb stack

Well, in my blog I call such hands rotten egg of the day! :f_ugly:

Both gone crazy and doing a totally unprofitable shove and call. Probably BTN was on tilt.

This!

What about NASH? What does NASH say?

This is an MTT -- correct? How close are we to the bubble?
How many still in? Nash is not really relevant when large numbers are still in the tournament.

BTN has BB covered and has Hero nearly covered, so could just be trying to use his tight image to get some $$

As BTN, though his shove removes his position advantage.
Better to raise pre then CBet. He either gets the blinds or somewhat more.
If he gets flatted OTF, then he can decide on later streets what to do, and save his stack.

So the open shove was poor play by him (IMO).

As for the call by 99 I think that it beats most of BTNs shoving range.
He will standard raise with TT+ imo, and will likely make a standard raise with AJ+

So...

       Equity     Win     Tie
BU     36.59%  36.05%   0.54% { 99-22, ATs-A7s, A5s-A2s, KTs+, QJs, ATo, KJo-KTo, QTo+, JTo }
BB     63.41%  62.86%   0.54% { 99 }

If you think he'll shove those hands then...

       Equity     Win     Tie
BU     43.99%  43.57%   0.42% { 22+, A7s+, A5s-A2s, KTs+, QJs, ATo+, KTo+, QTo+, JTo }
BB     56.01%  55.59%   0.42% { 99 }

So I would not say "No Brainer", and the call is certainly not stupid.

with all hands he is comfortable to play post in pos. does he shove theese like that?

That was the reason I removed the big hands -- he's comfortable playing those post-flop.

Interesting hand...

Doesn´t Nash count even if ITM is still far away? In the book "Kill Everyone" there are ranges given when the money is still far away and a lot of players are still in the tourney.

Or have I lost my mind or mixing up something? :f_ugly:

For Nash to work, you need to know the payouts.
See http://www.holdemresources.net/nashicm

Nash also assumes that players are all playing more-or-less optimally.

If one (or more) players is playing too wide or too tight, it is better to try to exploit that tendency than to just play the "Nash Range" (whatever that might be).

In a 42 hand sample as in this case, there is simply now way to judge what a player's tendencies are.

So that is why in my first post I asked about how close are we to the bubble and how many still in.
I think both of these factors of these factors would influence play more than ICM that is the basis of Nash.

Also, another factor that influences players is average chip stack -- and again, we have no information on that.

The final factor in all of this is the stack size. Push/Fold generally kicks in at smaller stack sizes than 30+ bb, and Nash pretty much assumes push/fold.

If you can find a Nash calculator that works w/ MTTs it might be informative to try it here.

However, as you suggested early on, the open-shove would almost certainly be sub-optimal.

Peace,
