Hey there, anyone who's reading this, I just decided to make a post about how I felt and feel over last 2.5 years. I am playing poker for quite some time, and made fairly good results BUT for the last 2.5 year period I do not remember any significant winning month, infact many of the months were mostly loses (which is really frusrating as I lost HUUUGE part of my bankroll) yet I still somehow shake it off everyday and keep myself motivated to continue because I just like the game & study, as it gave me a lot of positive outcomes in the past. However this massive 2yr setback is getting a bit too far and I was even considering to quit. I have studied info from various sources (mainly books and 2+2, but seems like many trolls there so I dont know...)

Here is the thing. If im trying to solve posted hand or do session analysis etc. usually I can figure the correct or atleast decent answer, BUT once I sit on the table my mind is kinda blank. its like "ok ok what should I be thinking hmmm, this guy is kinda TAG and he this & that..." and thats where it ends, I see the timebank running and after a while I make some medicore/bad decision.

I will figure the correct decision by the time I end the session or next day (I am not even result oriented) but the pressure seems to take over, yet there should be no pressure at all, because it happens even in rly easy decisions like cbetting or facing check/raise or w/e. (if not on table, I know what, why, when to cb etc.) yet even if I figure the correct decision, sometimes I make similar mistake on the table AGAIN.

I got fair info I just cant seem to pull it out while at the table. Or atleast not as quality as I would want to, sometimes I play rly good then 1 suckout happens and I am on such mindstate again. Its not like I am mad on the suckout or anything, I am kinda mad I cant pull the info in right time, even if its not that hard.

Do you guys have any ideas/solutions/considerations? I feel really hopeless, I dont know what is happening with me, I used to be really good, but lately I feel really hopeless....

(PS: if the post is not in correct section move it there please... thank you very much)

Hey NightBeam,

Welcome to PokerStrategy.com :welcome:

You may need to go back to basics. After that length of time, there will be a couple of major issues.

  • Lack of confidence. Once you lose confidence, you also start to lose faith in what used to work for you. You start to subconsciously adapt your game.
  • Frustration. It can be difficult to deal with long losing stretches. Is it the downswing from hell, or is it a sign that there is a more serious problem?
  • Change. The game is forever evolving. Lines that were +Ev 3 years ago, may now be -Ev or vice versa.

I would recommend checking out No-Limit Beginner's Course with confidant91 [2017 edition]. You might be able to spot some leaks by looking through the thread and watching the videos.

Also you should post hands that you are unsure of on our Hand discussions for No Limit board where you will get a lot of useful feedback.

And never be afraid to ask questions. We are here to help.:f_thumbsup:

Cheers :f_drink:

No I don't think its downswing from hell. At first I believe it started with overconfidence , bad plays decisions etc.. and then there was a lot of changes in CG format on PS which was really tough, but I still see a lot of people doing fine so I dont know... yes there is some new plays I have noticed which Im not 100% sure of but, for most part I think its just lack of concentration, motivation during session with some overconfidence or something...

Im very thankful you have spared some time to read my post and tried to think of a solution, I am gonna check out the stuff you recommend, it seems informative.

Thank you very much sir and have a nice day! :)

Hello Friend,

I sympathize with you and I was in similar situations. I came to saturation many times and wanted to leave the poker forever. But I've always been back, sometimes right away, sometimes after a long pause. My advice is not to give up. One day you will remember with a smile the current painful experiences. Remember that this situation must sometimes pass. Reading your post, I got the impression that you were mentally tired, and I think that you should play a period of time so that you just enjoy poker. Perhaps it would be good to reduce the initial buy in (take care of your bankroll) and just play like when you first fell in love with the game. Without excessive mental theorization of the right moves, just enjoy, so you get back the feeling and poker instinct. Have fun. Basically, I want you to go through this period as quickly as possible and remember that you are not alone. Many players are going through similar situations. I believe that you have read it, but it would not be bad to read again some books about correct poker mindset, such as: The Poker Mindset: Essential Attitudes to Poker Success (Ian Taylor, Matthew Hilger), Zen and Art of Poker (Larry W. Phillips) and of course the Mental Game of Poker (Jared Tendler with the world famous Barry Carter :). I wish you all the best!

“One day you will understand that you are looking for what you already have",
said the Master to hardworking pupil.
"So why cannot I see it now?"
"Because you're trying too much."
"Then should I not try?"
"If you relax and give it time, it will be revealed to you by itself."

Hey man!

Thank you for cheering words and the advice. I guess the problem was I forget why I was playing the game along with other stuff. I have many new ideas now and I know eventually, everyting will workout. :)

Happy New Year
