OK.. villain is not a big fish was my read so far :)

PokerStars - $0.02 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

SB: 104.5 BB (VPIP: 33.33, PFR: 23.91, 3Bet Preflop: 4.35, Hands: 144)
BB: 175 BB (VPIP: 30.65, PFR: 22.26, 3Bet Preflop: 7.48, Hands: 323)
UTG: 82.5 BB (VPIP: 16.67, PFR: 8.70, 3Bet Preflop: 4.58, Hands: 424)
Hero (CO): 109 BB
BTN: 141 BB (VPIP: 18.76, PFR: 15.46, 3Bet Preflop: 3.37, Hands: 772)

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 5♦ 5♣

fold, Hero raises to 3 BB, fold, fold, BB calls 2 BB

Flop: (6.5 BB, 2 players) 8♠ 5♥ 4♦
BB checks, Hero bets 4 BB, BB calls 4 BB

Turn: (14.5 BB, 2 players) 6♠
BB checks, Hero checks

I think check here against this type of opponent at 2NL is OK.
It hits his range so hard (I'm not totally convinced though) and you have I think 20% equity
so when he re-raises when you bet here you kind of have to call.

River: (14.5 BB, 2 players) T♠
BB bets 9.5 BB

Call this? All possible draws in the world got there but what about 2P's, high PP's or a bluff?

Maybe calling/folding here is neutral EV I don't know.

What are your thoughts?

My thought at this moment.. calling OOP sucks.. you hardly win some even when you hit hard

Spoiler

, Hero calls 9.5 BB

BB shows 8♦ 7♦ (Straight, Eight High)
(Pre 50%, Flop 18%, Turn 76%)
Hero mucks 5♦ 5♣ (Three of a Kind, Fives)
(Pre 50%, Flop 82%, Turn 24%)
BB wins 32.5 BB

He might also have some overpairs (99,TT) or top pairs (A8s,89s,8Ts) even sometimes flushdraws (As9s) which you beat. Even if he has the 7x you still have equity. So I would have bet here, but that being said I don't see that much problem with the check neither.
And yep I would call the river

I would always bet the turn there. Yes the board gets shittier and some draws complete but it also opens a lot of new draws. Even if he has a straight now you still have 10 outs. And betting the turn would prevent this exact situation, board is shitty -> villain bets OTR and you don't know what to do.
