Then you can wait a long time
Once I used a hammer - it was a very spontaneous decision - and now I try to find a new screen in one of these chests ...

I have understood that it doesn’t really matter what chests you have, rewards are the same % in all of them. You get around 4% back no matter what you do.
I played around 48k hands in 1 month and the star coins amount to 10% rakeback. Was I just lucky opening the chests?
It looks like it, but if you invest every 12-hour 7 star coins the rake back could be more with winning a part of the jackpot every time.

You're speaking of "The Deal"? Correct?
Here are my results playing that:
https://forums.pokerstrategy.com/forum/thread.php?postid=2786702#post2786702
Since I've been keeping track (in Aug 2017), I've earned $36 using $500 coin.
I have no idea what I paid in rake during that time, but I could request a playing audit to find out.
Also, do I count the tournament cashes? I use my StarsCoin to purchase $3.30 tournament tickets, and I've had some hefty cashes.
The original idea in this thread was to save some chests so that if I need only a few points to graduate to the next higher chest level, I could open some chests and do that when the time left to play was very short. I did that again last weekend. I needed about 100 more points to get to blue level the next day, and there was only about 20 minutes left before the deadline.

That’s right. Most of the time I join when the jackpot is high as well. Like 200k for example.
Then you win approximately $3 if the jackpot will burst.
Even if you get $1 from jackpot, it's worth it as it costs you $0.07 to play one round.

Yes, but you usually need to enter more than once.
In this last jackpot won today, I started buying in every 12 hours when the JP was 198,000
I usually won back 1 or two coins, and after 7 12-hour intervals, I had spent 40 coin
At the time the JP was won today, it was at 229925, and I won $2.65.
So I earned $0.07 per coin -- which is actually just about average since I've been keeping track.
Incidentally, I was watching a stream at the time the JackPot was won, and even though that person bought in multiple times (and I guess for 70 coin per throw) she also only received $2.65 -- so it clearly is not +EV to play more than once per 12-hour period, nor to play for 70 coin per game.
The funny part is I played 3 $0.90 Hyper-Turbo satellites to the Sunday Million so the $2.65 just about covered my loss.

Playing the Deal is -EV. And you get the same from jackpot no matter how much you have played, as long as you have played in the last 12h. So it's quite clear that the best value is to play one game every 12h.
If you get 7 cents per coin, that's huge. 7 times more than what you get if you spend the coins.

I am not sure but I think that you dont recieve double points from chests but you still finish the bonus faster. If thats true you are wasting a small part of the doublepointsbonus. Are you sure it affects your boost? I assumed it wouldn't affect that but ofc now I'm not sure ♦
If I know that I'm about to be downgraded (because I didn't play enough the day before), then I sometimes need to hoard a chest so that the bonus points given by it don't result in me earning a chest and being downgraded prematurely.
For example, if, at the end of a session, I have an unopened chest and also 10 points left until I earn a bronze chest, and I know that my next chest will be blue, then I avoid opening my existing chest, in order to still have on 360-point (bronze-level) boost tomorrow, the last such boost before I fall to the blue level; if I opened the chest and it gave me 20 pts, making me earn another bronze chest and downgrading me to the blue level, then my boost would be on 160 pts tomorrow instead of 360.
However, this 'advanced' method of boost size manipulation makes so little monetary difference that I normally don't get bothered and simply open chests immediately after the session

The EV of the non-jackpot prizes that The Deal awards is ~$0.04 per 7-coin round, and the variance of such prizes is negligible in comparison with most players' bankrolls, so the net expected cost of a round is ~$0.03, very cheap indeed.
The problem is that the reduction of rakeback has lowered the amount of coins in circulation (gamblers have fewer coins to spend on The Deal), and the frequency of JP hits has slowed down so much that playing every 12 hours earns merely $5-10 a month.
Since August 13 when I began keeping track, the jackpot has been won on average every 16 days.
If one played every 12 hours for all 16 days, the coin cost would be 32 x 4 or 128 coins paid between jackpots
I used 4 because that is my average cost in coin per round.
Of the ones I've played the average payout to me has been $3.90 -- which equals $0.03 per coin.
This is 3x what you get by cashing them in for tournament tickets etc.
However I STOP PLAYING when the jackpot is less than 200,000, so my total cost is much less -- averaging 18 coin per jackpot, so my average return is $0.07 per coin.
You are totally correct in saying that this is a triviality, but It's a fun diversion.
Here is my data table:
Some jackpot values are estimates based on the rate of increase and the number of players is also an esitmate

There is a new wrinkle introduced today (I think it was today -- I just noticed it).
It is called "Suit Race". You pick a suit, and as you play, each card you're dealt -- including the board -- increases the total for that card's suit.
For example, I picked hearts, and I was dealt 50 hearts before I was dealt 50 of any other suit so I win! You do not need to win the hand for the suits to count.
What did I win?
A 7sc "The Deal " ticket. and as we've seen that ain't worth much -- but it is >0 so woo hoo!
It costs nothing to play, and doesn't affect your play like some other promos.
The problem for me is that it is only valid for Hold'em and Omahahaha Hi -- neither of which I play all that much.
Just for the experience, I played some FR NL 10 and ran like Bolt.

It makes it at least an interesting discussion and you can also start with investing star coins when the jackpot is at least 100k, 150k or even 200k. Then you win more, but you will lose some money when the jackpot burst earlier.
The biggest expense when playing The Deal is not coins but my time and energy, especially in those months when Stars has nothing new on offer and none of Stars' existing poker variants is to my liking any longer (because all of them have already accumulated a critical mass of decently strong regs). Therefore, I start investing into The Deal when the JP is around $150K. Then I may play 3 times a day at random hours when it's most comfortable for me because, if I played exactly every 12 hours, there would be a risk of disruption of my sleeping schedule. It's not worth my energy to wake up or delay going to bed just to play The Deal at 'the right hour', doh.
If you start let said on 9.00h in the morning and 9.00h in the evening 1 times in 12 hours should be enough and it doesn’t disrupt your night routine I think.

That is precisely when I do it. Occasionally I will do one early if I'm going to be gone at that time -- then I adjust to then new time -- usually 06:00 and 18:00
