I think I played this correctly, value betting with my range. I had no information on villain and my equity was a lot bigger than required even though villain was holding the best hand from the turn onwards.
The river donkbet was unexpected but I don't think I could fold this hand. I was taught to treat unknown players as fish, not regs.
Just checking in to see if you agree.

We almost have the best hand here of course 5x beats us but I wouldn't give that much 5x in his range, He can do this with stronger Kx and busted straights, some Ax which had fd ott.

Call-call-donk is often a strong line at microstakes and it’s almost the pot. I’d be suspicious.

Yes, I was too. :-)
But folding here would be very exploitable, don't you think?

Well, here, I would’ve expected him to fold 33 after flop and turn bets, so I guess I’d also find it hard to fold. But people do such weird stuff at NL2.

"exploitable" in NL2 LOL

i think it's ok, but you should expect to lose quite often.
he calls down with 33 not because it's NL2, but because he's a recreational. you will still be sucked out like this up to NL50 and above

I only know NL2 but still see players have 'tricks' like trying to scare you off your hand and if you give in they try it every time. If you don't then they will think twice next time.
It's not very sophisticated but it's still exploiting weaknesses, wouldn't you say?

+ for next time, vs these types of players just pot flop, pot turn
and for the river just observe how often you see random hands here, when they c/c c/c and lead pot river

Weird spot for sure, but I recommend removing the outcome of the hand next time or put it in a spoiler. It could influence the feedback what you get.

Cheers,

definately open bigger pre, OTR this is a really strong move and almost always the nuts on NL2. I'd fold it. Give villain a note on that so next time you know what's going on.

So are we still value betting then? I would think that potting the flop will get us a lot of folds and we would want more value out of this hand. Or is TPTK still a relative weak hand all said and done? Like we want to get paid now but don't trust it really on T+R

This is always a fish line with sets ----> having a set call flop then call turn and then they realize if they check river now Hero can check back and ofc the want to get value with there strong hands so they donk pot on river . I actually would more give him the set of 8 or just a 5. I dont think he is bluffing there with a busted straight or a flush. And donking in with a Kx then only maybe a two pair. So you are most of the time beaten only vs bluff you are a head. But you always have to think in long term so if you have this situations 5 times i think minimun 3 times you are beaten in this scenario and 2 times you maybe win so in long term i guess its -ev. And its NL2 not many guys bluff there.

Well, the villain's line cries out that he has trips+ hand. We should not call the river- as you are both playing from late positions villain can have A5, 65, even K5, 85,75, and 88, 33 too. Fold and move on.
There was a very useful hint above: pot bet flop and pot bet turn.

Can I ask why is pot betting flop and turn a good idea? I mean ofc its for value but is he fishy enough to call it with something weaker?

I just want to point out that there is nothing that suggests villain is a recreational player.

I was taught to treat unknown players as fish, not regs.

This I don't completely agree with. If we play our standard strong game vs a fish we probably are not making many mistakes but if we go ahead and pull some funny moves against reg we might put ourselves in nasty spots. If villain is unknown it is best to treat him like an unknown, which means we rely on our population reads. If we don't have a good feeling about how the population plays we still shouldn't think an unknown villain is necessarily super weak always. And what does treating him as a "fish" mean anyway? There are calling stations, weak passive fish, aggro maniacs, super nits.. All of them are weaker recreational players but play differently.

Against recreational players who like to call a lot, like he did call 2 streets with bottom pair, going for bigger sizings with value hands makes sense because you will get paid... But as I mentioned, we do not have that information.
If you remove the stats (which are totally irrelevant because the sample is 10 hands), and then remove river completely. Just ask if you should double barrel on this flop and turn with TPTK and how big, I believe the answer would be different.
Then the answer would probably be that you don't have to bet so big because the board is very dry, you block Kx hands and the ranges are quite wide here.

Yes thats exactly why I was asking. Because personally I wouldnt be potbetting but there was 2 posts about how good it is. So I wasnt sure.

Yea well s0cru3l mentioned that "next time vs these types of players" you should do that. For me it is clear that when the hand started we didn't have information what type of player our villain is. So maybe this was just a general tip what you should do next time when you face this villain, or any other you know is a calling station.
