I do not understand why you donk on the flop. UTG is the pre flop aggressor and your bet makes him fold. If he bets and MP calls you can raise the pot to isolate and get more value in. The turn is not the best card but not the worst. Flush does not complete and it is not 4-connected but only 3-conntected for the straight. I would bet and call a small raise on the turn or fold against a higher raise. They can flop two pair, maybe set of eights, Tx including AT. All hands which do not improve on the turn. Make it expensive for flush draws I would suggest.
I am not a pro so I would be interested in feedback of other players as well. This is just the way I would have played this hand in your spot.
Not sure how to play this preflop shorthanded, specially from the SB.
Considering that utg is mp2 on FR, I think I'd only cold call here, if I was sure that the BB was a passive or a nitish player and if I had other fishes involved in the hand (anyone that would call me if I hit my set).
Otherwise, I'd simply squeeze or fold, based on the mp2 and mp3 stats, because we don't have position here and we will hardly close the action otf.
So, against good opponents, It'd be very hard to continue the flop, when we miss our set, even in dry boards and our pair loses a lot of equity against 2+ opponents.
As played, I would've donked the flop as well (wet board and we are oop against 3 opponents). I usually play more straight forward, when I'm oop. Maybe bet a little bit more otf.
OTT, I'd bet/fold 1/2 pot and check/fold or bet small/fold, OTR unimproved.
Thx for your comment. Donking OTF is standard for me because there are so may outs against me. The problem is that it is quite probable that neither player will bet the flop, meaning that I don't get any value with my set and giving a free card, which I don't want. Yeah, turn is the problem, I now tend to bet/fold 1/2 because due to the tendencies on these stakes (relatively straightforward play) I can easily fold on a high raise because it is always the straight. If low raise, I call because I have so may outs and fold on the river ui.
Preflop is kinda standard 4 me, ooP-play is not an issue for me because you know where you stand OTF (set or no set). On lowcards I check and wait for the action to come, if cbet/fold I'll go at least for one more street, if bet/ call again I'll probably fold.
