I think I played this the worst possible way. How would you do it? Villain is completely unknown.

I would check raise flop, call all in and bet turn and river.
His 3bet pre suggest that he is recreational player.
I wonder how to react to this small 3bets with hands like JJ, call, 4bet? With QQ I would probably 4bet.

I think so too
Check/raising that flop seems the easiest way to go.

But the river fold is "obvious"? I mean we have top set, good players can bluff this spot to represent an 8.
It's NL2, so I decided to let it go :f_thumbsup:

What if he checks behind and turn comes nasty?

Me too. Would you rather 4bet this? If so, what's the size of it?

Then so be it. At least the pot will remain small. You can't conjure up bad runouts by donkbetting you know. He won't fold an 8 or a Q ever.

And no 4betting pre is out of question.

The hand is so weird (flop action and turn sizing) and it's NL2 so hard to tell, anything is possible. You have to be good one time out of three to call, you should more or less have it. Calling or folding seems pretty much indifferent and shouldn't affect your winrate very much, it's more important to learn how to evade that situation in the future than to play the guessing game.
Well, in doubt just fold in fact ^^
