Hi,

Deep in the hot $1.10, ran into this spot. I was a top20 stack with about 100 left

Pre - standard? Any comments?

Flop - am I right that given the size of the pot and the stack size, there's no way I'm getting away from this hand? I'm ahead of most of villain's range; hands I'm scared of AJ, 88, and maaaaybe A8s (not sure if they call the second raise with it). They shouldn't have many AA, AK, or JJ, and I'm ahead of everything else (I would give them pocket pairs, weaker Ax, KT+, suited broadways)

Once I decided to play for stacks, thought that check/shove was the best way to get a shove in on the flop. The board has a straight draw possibility, but is dry otherwise; I can still get the stack in on remaining two streets if villain checks back, and showing weakness on the flop may entice them to stick around with hands they would fold to the second bet otherwise. Is this a reasonable line or should I go for a more conventional bet-bet / bet-call?

Thanks!

hi,
3 betting is close imo. He doesnt raise much there. You either flop or you are behind. What do you do if he 4bet shoves? Fold? Neverthless if you 3bet I would cbet flop and go broke with it. Unlucky 4 u that he got two pair and got you crushed.

The open raiser has 17bb, if they shove I call. MP+1 (the villain in this hand) just called pre, sure they could be slow playing AA, but I think I'm ahead of their range, and would expect to be at worst flipping with dead money in the pot. So I think I'm happy to call a 4-bet shove pre from either villain

ok. Why do you check shove and not bet for value? If he is trapping he could easily slowplaying the one or the other way. With a c/r you pull the trigger ok but do you really fold if he raises the flop? If you plan to flop to a raise betting is better. If you are not sure if you are ahead then pot control and just call the flop. If you not sure and play aggressive you are isolating yourself vs a better hand as played.

Check/raise... yeah... The long and short of it is that with my remaining stack being barely the size of the pot, I felt I couldn't get away from the hand, felt I was ahead of villain's range, wanted to get it in on the flop, and thought check/raise was the best way of doing it. It also allows me to maybe encourage villain to bluff with hands which wouldn't call the c-bet. I also felt that on this board I had enough check/calls (TT+ type hands) in my range (and possibly some check/give ups as well if the initial 3-bet was a bluff) for the check to not be too suspicious

I see what you mean about isolating myself vs better hands, but I thought they weren't folding an A one way or the other, whether I was ahead or not, but with a check I had a better chance to get value from hands without an A. Ultimately, my line of thinking was "if I'm behind, I'm busting one way or the other, but if I'm ahead, check is more likely to induce action". This could very well be flawed, but that was my reasoning

well the problem with c/r is that he will check back his draws and medium strengh hands to improve. This board is connected and hit his range pretty hard. Think about the hands you raise. They either have hit or drawing. By let him bet you go no info if he does that with a draw or with smth that hot you crushed. If you bet youself and he raises you its much more likely that he has it. Maybe he doesnt fold an ace but how much combos with weaker aces continue after a 3bet pre? Not that much if you compare this to the other ones. There are even less combos because he is raisimg tighter than he probably shouId due to his stats. I assume he gets it in with QQ+ pre. That leaves you tens and nines he may lead with if you check. Even if you add all the non sd draws he may bet with as you suggest (he probably bot call them to a 3bet) it can never be enough imo. Hope this helps you a little bit.

I'm still not supposed to bet/fold given the stack, am I?

good question. with tp no. You have to play for stack. This is why I prefer 3betting bigger to shove flop. If I raise oop. You can have lots of hands that crush him but if he is a reg or a honest player why not folding if you are beat? At these stakes bets and sizing usually mean what they say.

Thanks! have to say that my 3-bet process in these scenarios is limited to clicking the Pot button, then clicking Raise :f_p:
sizing may be unexploitable this way, but it leads to these awkward scenarios where I can't reasonably make a play I want to make on the flop. Need to learn putting more thought into it
