Extracting max value out of position with top set

Pre-flop is already close to call a 3bet without closing the action with 77.
As played I would go for a check/call to keep the CO his range as wide as possible and only a non paired could hurt your action. In most cases you get it in on the turn if he would bet again.

Definitely raise. There are a lot of scare cards that can kill your action - any club, any 6, any 5, and any overcard to V's perceived overpair (unless he has AA obviously). Not to mention the fact that if he's drawing, we're letting him draw cheaply in position.

This board hits your range harder - play your set the same way you would play your draws (which I hope is aggressively on a board that hits your range much more than V's).

CO could be a very aggressive player. And here is another method to consider.

From CO's viewpoint, he 3bets PF, and you suddenly check/raise on a raggy flop. It's either a crazy fish bluff against two opponents from OOP, or a big hand.

Instead of checking, you bet 2/5 pot or so. Smaller than 1/2 pot, and it signals that you have a good but not great over pair (88-JJ), a pair with Ace (A7x), double-gutshot (A5s) or a flush draw. Something that you have some piece, but just hoping the other two fold or just call. The best scenario is that UTG calls and CO raises with high-pair (QQ+) or nut flush draw. And he would bet almost the size of the pot. So, if you bet $0.30, UTG calls, the pot is around $1.60, and when CO bets the pot, it is $3.20. Now, you push, and the pot is a little over $10.00. Quite often, now, the opp would call with QQ+ (or even JJ, AKs flush draw), because your hand really seems to be the good flush draw (either A- or K-).

I don't think CO would 3bet PF with hands containing 8 or lower cards, the same to UTG. So straight is not a concern. If one of them has 4-set, he would call. Even with only 40+ hands, CO's 3bet was 0%. So CO's hand range is AQ+, JJ+.

Even CO fold to your raise with AKx hands, you could pick up a little bigger pot than check/raise line.

As others have stated, only a non pair club, 5, or 6 would kill your action. Thus, it is best to simply call the Flop in hopes of building a pot with a monster hand. However, raising is not a horrible mistake. If you limit your raise to 2 times, you may get the Call you want. Hero's raise was too big. I always play pocket pair 22+. I see this scenario all the time. I never raise. Heck, I don't even bet in position hoping to lure a Turn bet. But again, raising the flop is not terrible.
