Pretty tough luck lately, Prim.
I know these games can be very frustrating, and personally, I have given up on large field Hold'em MTTs ages ago. Still, I noticed that you seem to deal with a lot of injustice tilt lately (possibly entitlement tilt as well), not just this weekend, but also during many of our last Saturday sessions. For example, you often had some dismissive things to say about players who took dubious lines, especially if they happen to hit against you.
I have already commented on this topic earlier this year. Again, I believe that the talk of "donks" as well as the "shark - fish" dichotomy may have had its uses back in the late 2000's when there were a lot of new people getting interested in online poker, and the skill aspect of the game was getting emphasized to shake the popular perception of poker being a pure gambling game. By now, though, I believe it has overstayed its welcome, as I argued in that post.
Regarding these players, it should also be noted that we can't get into their heads. Yes, it is extremely frustrating to get rivered by a seemingly "random" hand, but what good is it to accuse them of being just some idiot who has no concept of what they're doing and simply hit their miracle card? In many cases, they may indeed be impulsive gamblers who (perhaps even knowingly) take unreasonable -EV risks. Other times, they might have planned something based on information we simply don't have, be it a bluff on a (bad?) read, an unconventional line, or whatever.
Don't get me wrong, we all vent about "bad players" from time to time, think nasty things about them, possibly say them too. We all do it, including me. It's natural. It can be cathartic at times. But it's not always what moves us forward. Instead of judging them and their play, I think it's better to just register what they're doing, take mental or actual notes, and simply come up with ways to counter what they do. That's how we get an edge - which, of course, often only means a statistical advantage of a few percents. But that's all we can get in a game like this. And it should be pointed out that, as far as I can tell, that's exactly what you were doing.
Those are just some of my thoughts on this matter. Others may disagree, but it's what I came up with to help me deal with the same problem. There is always room for improvement, but remembering some of your posts from last year, I believe your mental game may have actually improved quite a bit in the last few months. And yes, you are a good player.
Now let's get through those swings. GL tomorrow!
