No we make a strong case in the book that playing them like a regular MTT is a huge mistake. If you are not playing to maximise bounties you are giving up a ton of equity and practically if you try and bluff people when you have a big bounty you are screwed.

We actually make the case that it will be hard to be a PKO expert because they are so complex they will never be solved. That said, people make such big mistakes that you can be a relative expect.

Next one is about regular MTT ICM, something we think new players skip over, and it completes the 'ICM Trilogy' of satellites, PKOs and normal MTTs.

I had a massive soul destroying one in 2012, cash games. Cannot remember number of hands but it was an entire year. My coach at the time even commented he had never seen a downswing like it. Touch wood I have not had anything that came close since and in hindsight I think I played poorly throughout the entire thing, I think a better player would have had a winning year with my cards, I managed to break even in the last month of it.

I live in the Czech Republic where the law-makers decided that Czechs players could register in an MTT only if 50% of its prizepool has been reached. It's obnoxious because it's a) bad for the players and b) if every country had this rule, no MTT could start. Unfortunately, I have to live with that.
Should I just not register any PKO tournament because of this? I basically have to late reg everything

Oh wow that sucks. Yeah I guess the answer is that unless 50% of the guarantee has already been met at the start, you *probably* should skip PKOs. If you are small stakes and get PokerStars you could probably play the PKO MTT SNGs as a viable solution.

I quit poker in 2016, got a job, got a better one etc. and now I want to go back to poker as a rec player. I thought that the easiest format to have fun while beating it would be MTTs (Spins are ban here as well here anyway), and I assumed that CGs are full of very strong players by now who tend towards GTO way more than in MTTs.
Aren't SNGs full of strong regs with good knowledge of ICM and PKO strategy?
I see that there are 5.5 and 11$ PKO MTT SNGs on Stars and see how these fill up in the evenings, while writing this post the 5.5$ one stayed at 5/90 players, not promising, but it's morning in Europe so that could explain it. I cannot play the "Bounty Builders on Demand" because these have a guarantee as well. The 3.3$ one starts at 90 players but is 1.5k Gtd, meaning I can reg it when 750$/2.94$ = 256 players have regged it, disgusting ♦
Even if these MTTs SNGs run regularly I don't know if it would be worth it to learn proper PKO strategy just for 2 MTTs SNGs I'll pay more attention to how late I can register in the regular PKO MTTs, if it's a few minutes it should not be a problem, if it's 15+ it's probably not good.
Looks like I'll be a rec that late regs FO MTTs, just like you
