One of the best ways to learn poker is to study common spots that come up a lot, so you can make the best decisions automatically.

With that in mind our friends at Poker Scientist are going to help you with one of the most common spots in poker - blind defence. We want you to submit hands where you defended the Blinds and the software's creator 'Samy89' is going to review the best submissions using Poker Scientist in an exclusive video.

On top of that we are raffling a free month of Poker Scientist amongst all the people who submitted a hand.

To get your hand reviewed:

*Post the Hand History in this thread
*Explain why you were unsure about how to play the hand
*Deadline is before Monday, August 24

Then soon after you can expect a video which includes the most interesting hand.

Is this a good hand to defend passively BvB?
What betsizes would you recommend ?

Did you mean in this thread?
If you mean this forum, we'll end up with a bunch of Hand Histories in General Poker Discussions.

Assuming the answer is yes... (and if no, I've also posted this in the hand discussion forum)
Here is the hand history:
Pacific Poker - $0.10 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (BTN): 79.8 BB
SB: 103 BB
BB: 280.2 BB
UTG: 157.7 BB
MP: 54.9 BB
CO: 366.2 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has J♠:A♠:

fold, MP raises to 2 BB, fold, Hero raises to 6 BB, fold, fold, MP calls 4 BB

Flop: (13.5 BB, 2 players) A♥:4♥:K♥:
MP checks, Hero ??? BB

I think the 3Bet pre is standard, esp over a minbet.

The flop is the essence of putrescence.
Now what?

1) How to play on Turn?
2) What is better on River: block bet, check/call or check/fold?

I'm Not defending in this Situation. But Villain is and I think it's a nice classic Situation to analyse out of both positions

PokerStars, Hold'em No Limit - $0.01/$0.02 - 6 players
Hand delivered by Upswing Poker

UTG: $3.63 (182 bb)
MP: $1.91 (96 bb)
CO (Hero): $3.89 (195 bb)
BU: $3.16 (158 bb)
SB: $4.18 (209 bb)
BB: $0.78 (39 bb)

Pre-Flop: ($0.03) Hero is CO with A 5
2 players fold, Hero raises to $0.06, 2 players fold, BB calls $0.04

Flop: ($0.13) 3 A 6 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $0.08, BB calls $0.08

Turn: ($0.29) Q (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $0.20, BB raises to $0.64 (all-in), Hero calls $0.44

In the cutoff I get A5s and attack the blinds. BB calls and I flop TPWK. I make a CB and get a call.

On the turn comes a third . I decide to protect against another cross and make another bet. Villain raises his small Stack Ai. I’m pretty beat right now against any better A, flushes and A3 and have to throw away. I mean the call on the turn is super bad.

But what I find interesting about the hand is:
Should I just check to keep the pot small but allow him a free card for potential FDs or a gutshot with broadwaycards? And if I check how do I react to a bet at the river? Can I call a 1/2-PSB at the river? If he checks, can I get value off weaker hands and bet the river? Should I give up after his call on the flop because he usually will be committed with his midstack after a flop call and probably already has us beat with better Aces?

Spoiler

Villain has AJ

And then also the other way around. If we were him. Does it make sense for him to make a 3bet? Or could the call make sense to keep in weaker aces and dominate them post-flop and force the opponent to do bigger mistakes post-flop.

I think it’s a super classic situation which happens quite often and there are many lines to play, which makes the hand super interesting and nice to learn basic blind defense concepts.
