Hey there,

my name is Oliver, feel free to call me Olly, like everybody else does. I`ve been here around for ages. Due to the fact, that I`m only tracked on i-poker I´m basically bronze member 4 life.

I did a blog a couple of years back in the german part of this forum, but I wasn`t in the state of mind I´m now, so I let it dry out. And yes, I`m german, so bare with my little english knowledge - I´ll try to improve it.

I just recently returned to card games. So this blog is here to keep me of stupid ideas.

Or returning to other online games.

Yes, I played World of Warcraft since TBC, most of the time pretty competitive and I always loved the game, no matter in which bad state it was. I was on and off there as well. The reason why I don`t want to play it anymore? That`s pretty easy, whenever I play wow I turn into a person I really dislike. I`m turning into a very toxic person and that`s not fun for anybody around and ofc it`s very bad for myself. I don`t want to turn into this person again - ever.
So the easiest way for me to not become that horrible person again is to deny myself every chance to get there again.
So quitting was the best choice for me and hopefully I`ll stay strong enough to say: "NO!" whenever I`ll be asked to return. Yes you can bet it`ll happen. Already denied a couple of requests.

As I said, I returned to card games, this means poker ofc. Literally just returned to the online field like 4-5 weeks ago.
Also I returned to playing Skat (200 year old german card game) last year. I was playing it for a couple of years like 13-20 years ago. Hyper competitive. When asked back then I would always say that I would crush everybody with one exception. And back then I believed it to be true. Basically I was an arrogant son of a bitch, just an asshole. Pretty good I was, but an asshole for sure. I took a long break from that game, 10 years plus, for several reasons: I made mistakes and couldn`t handle the blowback - which I honestly deserved and around that time my relationship blew up as well and I was introduced to wow. So I wasn`t in a good place back then and it all came crashing down on me so my escape from reality was wow. And man did I escape the real world. I wouldn`t do nothing except of playing wow. Literally nothing. Anyway, a lot of water passed the Rhine since then and I gave myself a chance to return to Skat last year. Surprisingly some of the players remembered me, had the chance to come clean with some of the guys, still some old stories to catch up, but that`ll come in time. I also joined a skatclub where the first team plays in the 2.Bundesliga (2nd highest league in Germany) and I`m part of that team. Due to covid-19 most of the season got canceled since march 2020. So nothing special to report on that front.
Anyway, if any germans reading this and you have questions about skat, feel free to ask me anything about it, anytime, anything.

I also played basketball in germany for most of my life, these days are over now, got injured too many times and my body suffered too many hits. As you can guess by now, I`m overweight. I remember at the start of 2020 I was at 138 kg / 1.96m. Already managed to loose around 18 kg this year. I will focus on my health, nutrition and sports way more and hopefully get back down to around 90 -95 kg - this was my comfort zone and hopefully It`ll be again in the future.

Let`s talk poker. I was introduced to this beautifull game a long - long time ago. Never played NLHE back then, it wasn`t popular back then. We played mostly Stud games in so many variations, I forgot most them already. But we had a lot of fun in homegames, even in the casinos around here, where only FLH was played. Played as high as 10/20 Euro in the casinos. But like i said, long long time ago and it was FLH.
These days the poker rooms in the casinos are closed till 31st of october. If they open again in november I`m looking forward to play a session there.

What i did and did not only back in the days doesn`t really matter anymore. Just a fish thinking I was any good - I was not. Still not.

But here`s what I plan for the future and what I started like 4-5 weeks ago.

I returned to pokerstars. Deposited 20 Euro and 50 Euro. So around 80 $. The first 30 $ were gone in a heartbeat. So playing this and that and mixing it all up was probably not the best idea. I then discored a Challenge on Pokerstars "1000 Redemption Points for 80$" So I cleared that for the reward, took me like the whole month to do so. I won and lost some $ in the casino, well got hooked there pretty good.
Anyway, I started on the october 1st with 150,10$ on Stars. Got another Challenge, again 1000 Points for 80$ and already got some points there:f_cool:

I lost a chunk of $ on Zoom NL2 - yeah what a fish :f_cry: :f_cry: :f_cry:, but won most of it back on the regular tables. So loosing in zoom, winning on the casual tables.

1.10. +25,26$
2.10. +6,30$
Night from the 2nd to the 3rd I was bored and played in the casino again, got some $ early only to blast away around a 100$ on other slots.
3.10. -18,44 and I was bored again, but in a good mude and I discovered that there`s another Challenge where the reward would be 27$ for some Points to collect on NL10 or higher. So i said, let`s go for it, how bad can it be? The first couple of hands were like b/e and the i got a little heater. Won on Zoom 10NL 2-3 Stacks while completing the Challenge. It was fun.
To be honest here, I lost a stack back to the pool with KK vs 88. That one is on me, he/she/it played it well and i donated the Stack.
4.10. +16$
The results are cash game only, I also played some Mtts, Sng`s on the side and here I`m down 30,71$

My PC had several problems on sunday, so I reinstalled windows and everything new. Looks way smoother now. Hope it`ll stay like this, but my hand history is gone and all that kind of stuff.

5.10. did not play

As start of today, my Stars Bankroll is at 188,32$.
So far I cleared 384,15/1000 Points for the 80$ Challenge (Rakeback i guess), If I`m not mistaken I can clear that up to three times this month. I will aim to clear it 2 times. But mainly focussing on learning, decision making instead of brainless zoom grinding for the 80$. I turn very quickly to autopilot on zoom, mostly playing fit or fold there. So I prefer to play on the regular speed tables for now and focus on the good things and making a few $, instead of hunting the rakeback. If it happens to be close to clear a 2nd Bonus I will re-evaluate in the last week of october.

For learning and motivation I`m watching Epiphany77s Stream, whenever available and his YouTube Videos.

Any suggestions for content I should watch, read, consume?

Moving forward I will play NL2 and NL5 till my BR gets to 230-250$ and then taking shots at NL10 and so on. I will focus on CGs, but also play some micro Mtts, mostly KO tournaments whenever I feel like playing it. But for now, keep concentrating on CGs.

This Blog will hopefully help me to improve and leave the micros in the future pokerwise. It will also help me to be honest with myself. And if I`m lucky I get the chance to meet some new people along the way, who are also trying to stay positive.

Enough of the blah blah for now. I will post graphs every week, or if something interesting happens one way or another.

cheers and gl on the tables

That was an interesting week.

Best news first - LA Lakers are NBA World Champion again! LeBron James is still the king! May his reign last forever!

Long nights watching the games. Happy it ended this night. Fabulous job by the NBA to create the bubble and stuff.
Unthinkable for soccer in Germany - everyone is more about making money then the sport itself.

Just read today that Clark Middleton has passed on the 4th of october. Loved his role and appearences in the Blacklist. R.I.P.

Poker, Poker, Poker, ...

06.10. lost 21,40$ in Cash Games
07.10. won 10,03$ in Cash Games
08.10. won 6,13$ in Cash Games
09.10. won 1,17$ in Cash Games
10.10. won 0,73$ in Cash Games
11.10. won 16,66$ in Cash Games

Didn`t play a lot of Cash Games tbh. mostly for an hour or so, except of friday, where i played for like 10 minutes.
Played some tournaments.
Mostly 0,55$, 1,10$, 2,20$ and one 3,30$ buy ins, most of them progressive Knockouts, bubbled the final table at the big 1$. Was pretty card dead the last three tables and just couldn`t get over the hump. Played way too tight. Another Big 1$ came short again on the last three tables, sitting in the BB with KK, 3bet vs steal, he jammed his QQ and rivered it. No complaints. It happens!
Bounty tournaments are fun for me. Enjoy playing them. Played the 3max Zoom progressive K.O. on saturday, that was fun, missplayed a ton of spots, got lucky early on, where I sucked out AA with AJ. So was freerolling the rest of the tourney. Came in top 40 or sth. trips vs rivered flush, not sure if i would have been able to take down the pot on the flop with an overbet jam or bust there completly. Anyway, collected 5 times the buy in as bounties and some 15$+ on top or so.
On thursday I had a nice run in the 0,50$ Bounty Builder. Final three tables, was top 4 in chips and collided with the only other big stack on my table. Lost 80% of my stack, because I missplayed my hand preflop, on the flop, on the turn and was too stubborn to fold on the river. So lesson well learned. Stupid me.

A while ago I would have blamed luck, the other players or w.e. for loosing these hands/spots, but it was on me and that`s a step into the righ direction I guess.

Overall in tournaments and SnG`s I`m down this month for 14,03$.

Getting bored is on my biggest flaws. So I donked away 60 Bucks in the casino on stars. up/down, up/down. Boredom got the better of me. So I decided to get rid of the casino in the lobby, out of sight, out of mind.

Bankroll as of now is at 173,10 $. Imagine not loosing like 200$ in the casino... Well only one I can blame is me. Gotta be smarter.

The 1000 redemption points challenge on stars (the rakeback thingy) is atm at 574,32/1000 Points. Way better then september, but don`t know where this one is heading tbh.

The laws in Germany will change soon (15.10) and "online gambling" will be regulated in some weird ways. A maximum of 4 tables, max. of 1k € /month to deposit. Already received an email from runitonce, that we can`t play there from the 15.10. moving forward, expect it to last for at least a month or two.
Haven`t heard from Party or Stars as of now, but I`m sure some email will arrive.
So no idea what exactly will happen. Not looking too bright.

Question:
The funny Stars Chests for the Rake we pay. Anyone a clear idea what to aim for? Atm I`m at level 3 Chest Numer 5 with around 4226/14750 Points. I could exchange them for lower and easier obtainable chests. Anyone any ideas on that topic? What is the best way to handle these chests? Is it worth it to get less chests with probably "higher rewards" or move down and get more along the way?

Friday I didn`t play (well for like 10 minutes or so), cause we had live Skat in our club. Members only for the intern club championship. Since we can`t do open tournaments due to Covid-19, we decided to play 3 days for the intern Championship and the best 3 of the 6 results will be counted. First round went pretty okay`sh for me. Was 2nd overall, so that list will be on my top 3 I guess. Second round was a desaster, deck was damn cold, played poorly, overall got away with the fourth place that day. Still 4 rounds to play, so everything is ok.

After that I drove back into town to meet some friends and we drank a lot, played funny games, had a great night and lot`s of fun.
Received a lot of compliments for loosing weight, made me feel good. Feels pretty damn good if you fit again in cloths you couldn`t wear forever. Getting there, dy by day.

Have a great week, stay focused, postive and healthy.

Will post an update next week, or on the 15th. depends of what is happening over here in Germany and online Poker.

Hi LuciusFortega,
In my opinion, the best way to approach the chests is to ignore them completely.
Play your best poker, open the chests, see what is in 'em (usually nothing worthwhile) and move on.
There is nothing you can get in the points store that is worth the price (please someone correct me if I'm wrong).

AFAIK, the best $/coin return is in playing "The Deal".
Since you have such a huge balance, it might be +EV for you to play it for 70 StarsCoin a throw.

In the higher-level chests, do you get many actual cash rewards?
I don't imagine that the freeroll tickets interest you much.

Cheers,
VS

Thank you @VorpalF2F!

I was way to focussed on chests, Rakeback, Challenges etc. While looking at results, rakeback and all that kind of stuff I lost track of Poker. And where I`d like to get and how to get there.
Focussed on tracking results, checking, the BR and stuff, stupid me.
I will not keep track of daily hands, daily results and stuff anymore.
I will not checking my progress on rakeback challenges on stars etc. since they are a joke anyways. If I manage to clear it, nice, if not - it`s not the end of the world.
Only updates will be here once a week.

So, as of today my Bankroll on Stars is: 311,83$

Played a couple of hands the last week, but my sleep schedule is pretty much messed up. So I played more in the nighttime. Lot`s of brazilians and russians.

Had like 8 Buy Ins burnt, while I was in a setup with KK vs AA, was really wondering if they always have it. But it didn`t tilt me. I just kept on playing.
What I really don`t get about the micros is People playing with weird stack sizes, like 50BB, 70BB w/e. Then min 3bet and instantly jaming any Board.
Hope those players won`t be around @NL25 upwards.
Had a ton of dumb spots - where I flopped sth. (straight, 2 pair w/e.) and people were jaming stuff with equity of 2% or less.

Anyway, I will take a close look into PT4 tomorrow and look for some hands I had trouble with.

A part of the new online regulation law applied on the 15th. For the moment we can only deposit for 1 Grand each month. (affects me highly - not.)
Only 4 tables at a time are allowed. I heard if you have 4 tables open and start a tourney or sth. a rnd table will close. Haven`t tested it, just what I heard on the stream of some german streamer.
A panic button should be available (stop loss kinda thing I think) - haven`t seen one on stars so far. Makes not really much sense to me, but w/e.

Moving forward the idea is to grind more cash games for the moment. And slowly transition into mtts. Will use the free content of RYE for now and if my BR allows it to buy one of their courses and study a lot. For now, the free content has to do it.
If anyone has any feedback on RYE - happy to hear it, or other recomandations.
As soon, as I start tournaments, I will look for a study group. Don`t see it happen tomorrow, but in a couple of weeks.

Other than that I will consider playing on party again and consider to play on natural8 or GGPoker (however they are called today)
Need to check, if I can be tracked there, on PartyPoker I am.
Maybe get some First Deposit or other Bonus on GG.
Speacially, when I move to tournaments, I guess it`s pretty nice to play more than 4 tourneys spread on different sides.

Covid-19 seems to get the better of Germany again. Not here to argue about anything about the virus. I guess everyone has their own opinion. And that`s fine with me, wherever you may stand on this topic. Over here the summertime was, well, how may I say it... The people didn`t take care of themselves, so a another spread of the virus was clear to me. I watched the demonstration in Berlin, pretty stupid folks in mind. So the next lockdown will come, no matter what. So good thing, I can play some poker and hopefully earn some $$$. Just stay positive.

Well, the biggest leasson I learned last week is about myself. For me it`s a pretty big deal.
I never really realised why I am so competitive. I have an older sister - but there wasn`t much competition going on.
9 days ago I meditated with the help of a youtube video, a german one.
The message was:
Ich tu genug! (I do enough)
Ich habe genug! (I have enough)
Ich bin genug! (I am enough)
Obviously it stuck with me, as it it supposed to. I thought about it. Not really focussing on it, but thought about it here and there. And I can to an conclusion.

My dad was part of a really wealthy family in Hamburg. Speaking top notch here. He passed away, when I was 7 years old. I don`t have any memory of him. Nothing. All I remember is his funeral. Anyway, my mom moved away from him, before I was born. I never got to meet him. My mom never speaks about him and never answers any of my questions about him. When I was like 13-14 years old, I found old court documents, it was about child supportobviously. In those papers he said that he`s not my father etc. It was proved in Court that he was. He has another son, whom I never met.
And it was always kinda denied that I get to meet any of the relatives in Hamburg. I wasn`t good enough for them. That stuck with me my whole life.
I wasn`t good enough to be my fathers son. I wasn`t good enough to be a relative to them up there in Hamburg. Just not good enough and at the end of the day just my fathers bastard. Maybe call me Snow or Sand from here on...
And last week, after that meditation it came back into my mind.
I am good enough, it wasn`t my fault. It`s still not my fault, that they think, they`re better. I do enough, I have enough, I am enough!
Took me 25 + years to realise it and to really get it. Emotionally last week was big for me.
A lot of things I did made way more sense to me, the way i behaved made more sense to me.
Finally ready to move on.
Finally.
Ready to become a better son, a better brother, a better friend, a better human and maybe, along the way, a better poker player.
(still some "minor things" to figure out, but I am sure I`ll get there!)

The credit goes to Charly Carrell, if I hadn`t stumble on one of his videos, I wouldn`t have tried meditation or any of that and wouldn`t have learned about myself.

That was pretty personal. Hope everyone stays safe and sound. Have a great week and hopefully you`all make the right decisions on the poker table.

cheers

Not to argue, but the credit goes to you -- you found the videos, but you recognized their worth, and you acted on what you found.

Well played,
