Hi KailedeR,
Welcome to PokerStrategy.com :welcome:

I moved your post to the NL Hand Discussion forum.
It is more likely to get a response there.

You might also consider using a hand converter -- it makes it easier to see what is happening.
Here is what your hand would look like...
Feral Cow Poker Hand Converter <<follow this link to convert more hands

UTG: $2.05
UTG+1: $2.40 (Hero)
CO: $2.32

Preflop: ($0.03) Hero is UTG+1 with J♦ J♥ (6 players)
UTG folds, Hero raises to $0.05, 3 folds, BB calls $0.03

Flop: ($0.11) 8♥ 9♣ A♦ (2 players)

BB bets $0.13, Hero calls $0.13

River: ($0.37) J♣ (2 players)
BB bets $0.50, Hero raises to $1.22, BB raises to $2.88 and is all-in, Hero calls $1 and is all-in

BB showed T♣ 7♣, and won ($4.64) with a straight, Seven to Jack
Hero showed J♦ J♥, and lost with three of a kind, Jacks
BB won $4.64
(Rake: $0.17)

My comments:
I like the turn bet. Most hands could fold here, but opponent calls with an open-ender having poor pot odds.
The worst card in the deck for you comes on the river.

I'm never folding, but I'm not sure about raising.
I'm curious to hear what the experts say...

Kaileder,
Preflop fine.

Being IP on flop I am betting for a little protection with JJ. He could have KQ 10j, k10 k9, k8 a few others that he will float and defend BB with that have pretty good equity to them still, that you would like to see fold or be weaker then your holdings like second pair to call you with. Maybe like a 1/3 so the. You can double barrel on blank card

Turn call is fine.

River once he 3bet raise river, super strong play, it is hard to drop a set... I know I have been then a bunch of times and haven’t😁. Much easier said then done... but I think you need to let it go.

Always c-bet flop here, just make it 1/2 pot or something.
* If he folds: nice. We picked up dead money
* If he calls: villain will have an ace sometimes, villain might (and on 2NL most definitely WILL) also call you with 9x & 8x... next to that he's got all kind of straight draws including gutshots. In addition a lot of straight draws are drawing very thin as you are blocking 2 outs for hands like QT and also T7 as is the case here. I even see people calling all kinds of weak holdings like bare pocket pairs (44 etc) in these spots.
If I do bet flop & get called I'm always checking this turn card behind. 2nd barreling is pretty awful as it turns a value hand into a bluff, most weak holdings will fold against a 2nd barrel and any better hand will call.

As played I am not loving the spot I've put myself into on the turn facing an overbet but I'm calling.

The river: Just calling is pretty weak considering our hand is pretty strong, so I'm definitely raising and raising means calling as well. Raise/fold would be absolutely ridiculous. I'm not super happy to see villain bet/jam but we only have to call $1 in a $4,64 pot, we have to win the pot 22% of the time to make a +EV call. Villain is gonna have QT, T7 here sometimes, however he's also gonna turn up with hands like 99, 88, 33... and sometimes even with overplayed 2 pair hands (A9, A8, 98) or with completely random garbage.

MStlc,
I get quoted because, I fold river. I did misread hand and thought river was checked and hero lead... but even that seeing a 3 bet is super strong. With the 22% equity which in the end do you truly think at nl2 player 3 bet river without nutz or 2nd nutz you are winning 22% of the time or ~5:1.. to me if you know your beat equity means nothing all you are doing is making an exploitive play to save you 70bb.

overjam river yourself, and don't think about it.
if you fold and villain shows 88, some bad things can happen to your close environment :f_biggrin:

I quoted your post mostly because I disagreed with your 2nd barrel on the turn if betting the flop.

Also... "knowing" (read thinking) you are beat and actually being beat are not the same thing. You might feel awful calling here and losing but truth is I'm pretty sure bet/calling is a better line than bet/folding. I've played 20k NL2 Zoom hands over the last few weeks and people actually do show up with absolute random holdings in the craziest spots, well they do in 6max... FR is full of rocks and makes me wanna kill myself. :f_pleased:
Actually the reverse has also happened more then just once... people checking the river behind with the absolute stone cold nuts.

That being said: Tomaloc's overjam line is probably the very best line to take here.

Yes I can see them.
I'm not sure if you knew or not, but you can put those images directly in a post.
Use the "Picture" tag (6th from left) in the forum post toolbar, then paste in the URL.
Alternatively, if the picture exists on your computer already, just drag and drop into a post.

Cheers,
VS

I'm not going to pretend I know what any of those things mean. :f_pleased:
I've started playing again last month after about 10 years away from the game, I've seen the GTO term being thrown arround but honestly I'm still catching on with a lot of things that have hapened over the past decade so I'm not sure what everything means. What I have understood about GTO however is that it is a defensive strategy that makes you non-exploitable, or at least less so. That being said however, playing GTO against fish must mean leaving value at the tables right? Not sure if I have to worry about applying GTO at 2NL? :f_biggrin:

I know this is all a bit off topic by now but the hand has been "solved" anyway so might as well hijack this topic? :f_pleased:

i would also bet the flop for value, I think you don't get checkRAISED that often on NL2 vs most people
