Hi all, apologies for the long delay.
Tough time away from the tables, as you know our beloved dog Charlie passed away and afterwards my wife was seriously ill for about six weeks. She is fine now but as you can imagine it put my poker goals on hold.
I've played a bit of everything sporadically, and it seems over the last two months I have punted about €650.
I still doubt I will play many MTTs during the summer while the weather is good, especially because we are just having a great time with our new dog Arthur. So the plan is to grind 18-man SNGs on Stars for the summer before going back to MTTs when the weather gets cold. 18man SNGs IMO are the best 'MTT practice' format when I am short on time as they have early game, bubbles, final tables etc. This is my lifetime sharkscope for 18man SNGs
Finally, the new dog is awesome. So much fun and pretty well behaved, other than being a bit barky.

Complete mirror of last week, had a terrible week at the tables then ran like god in HexaPro on Sunday, I was filming a video for The Chip Race where I played a bunch of games in the same player pool as David Lappin, so we could film hands we played against each other. No big multipliers caught on video but after the recording I ran like god.
Wifey and I went to the Commonwealth Games to watch the Athletics, which is my favourite sport to watch. Nothing majorly exciting as we went in the morning session, but I did get to see a personal hero of mine run.
Dog is great, he can run again after his two weeks of forced lead walks.

Ouch terrible week, ran very bad and I hope that was it, as I am sure I played badly too. I played exclusively Spin & Go because I am working on some Spins related content and I had an awful week - not many bad beats, lots of coolers where I ran 88 into 99, AQ into AK type stuff etc, and lost most of my 60/40s. Pretty standard stuff (I hope) for Spins but we will see if it continues.

My attempt to 'moan it in' (English term to complain in the hopes it stops a downswing) didn't quite work but at least I lost considerably less this week.
I doubt I will play much the next month busy times ahead - my birthday tomorrow, we have some major landscaping work being done on our house, my best friend in Australia who I haven't seen for three years is visiting for three weeks and after that we have a holiday. I intend to play the Unibet UOS in that time but other than that, not much poker.
Also there is a chance my mother will be getting one of these two dogs, so that will also be something fun taking my time away from the pokers...

I hope you're including the winnings from your tickets, but not counting the tickets themselves as either winnings or cost.
At least that is how I used to do it.

Bad week at the tables but managed to rescue things literally at the last moment by coming 2nd in an MTT last night. Also won even more and still haven't used my tickets yet, so it was actually a decent winning week.
New book is essentially done, just need to clean up a handful of things and then it is off to our advance proof readers, so currently quite confident that it will be out in time to benefit from Xmas sales.

The book is in the final stages, so no more poker for me until it is done. Good timing too, my downswing is showing no signs of ending and is summarised perfectly by my last hand. This was to bubble a tourney with 10 players left and 1.6k up top.
It's been so bad I have 5% left to clear a bonus and I cannot bring myself to do it. I always get really stressed out when I am nearing the end of a book so it is probably a good thing that I am going to take a month or two off.

Took some time off from playing because A) downswing and B) finishing off the new book.
The book is almost ready. It's having its final proof read now as well as being formatted/cover design. The hope is that it will be out mid November, but I am now just waiting on other people so cannot guarantee it.
Probably the most noteworthy thing I have done other than that is this excellent video with Bencb, I really think it packs as much as is possible into one hour on the importance of ICM. Ben was amazing.
I restarted poker at the weekend. My BR is higher I than the amount above as have crushed the satellites so have about €600 in tickets I hopefully can turn into actual money at the tables. I play at Unibet and the new Unibet MTT schedule is really really good, lots of sats and vanillas, which I like.
Other than that all is well and this guy is awesome

My 6th poker book, 4th one with Dara O’Kearney, is out now.
We tackled three very niche areas last time – Satellites, PKOs then ICM.
This time we took on a massive topic – GTO.
This was hands down the hardest thing I have ever worked on. Post flop is not my strong area so this was the book my game needed. We went very deep into the solvers and dissected every street in hold’em. I somehow had to A) understand all this and B) simplify it for a mass market audience. I think we managed that and I have the scars to show it. It really drained me mentally.
We start off by introducing what I think are the most important lessons from the solvers, before moving on to each street in hold’em. We tackle the streets in the order of – river/flop/turn/preflop. The whole book, I believe, is optimised to show you the most important lessons in the best possible order, rather than trying to teach you in a linear way. For example, the river is quite a simple street and you can learn a lot about polarised ranges on it, so we started with that. We ended with preflop because we believe that you need to understand the other streets first before you can pick the hands you play post flop.
There are already two excellent GTO books out there – Play Optimal Poker by Andrew Brokos and Modern Poker Theory by Michael Acevedo. We believe our book is a complement to those books and one which should be read before embarking on reading them. Ours is much more of a ‘GTO for Dummies’ type book for people finding their feet on the topic. As part of our promotion we will be endorsing those two books heavily, we are not in competition with them.
We have been very lucky to have very little negative feedback on our previous books. That might change with this one. GTO is a topic that divides people, particularly the experts. We suspect that some experienced GTO experts might find our book too simplistic for their tastes. That is totally fair, we have barely scratched the surface on the topic it is so advanced.
So am I an pro level GTO Wizard now?
No.
I know my way around a solver but if anything I might be a slightly worse player right now, because I am on the bottom rung of the GTO ladder instead of the second from bottom rung of the exploit ladder. I will say, however, that after a year working on this book I feel a lot more comfortable playing against good players – I feel like I have a gameplan now.
As always I would love any feedback you have and no doubt we will do some sort of giveaway on PokerStrategy very soon.
