The villain is 22/9/af:1.0/3B:0, 25 hands

PokerStars - $0.50 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 100 BB
Hero (SB): 141.8 BB
BB: 134.66 BB
UTG: 100.52 BB
MP: 237.88 BB
CO: 103 BB

Hero posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 7♣ 4♣

fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 3 BB, BB calls 2 BB

Flop: (6 BB, 2 players) Q♦ 6♣ 8♣
Hero bets 2 BB, BB raises to 7 BB, Hero calls 5 BB

Turn: (20 BB, 2 players) J♦
Hero checks, BB bets 28.5 BB, Hero calls 28.5 BB

River: (77 BB, 2 players) 5♦
Hero ? ?

The range that I can beat, 66/88/QJ/Q8/Q6/86

The range that beats me, T9/some kind of backside flush like A6dd/A8dd/86dd

Thoughts?

Hi!

Quite loose open imo. If we had more hands on him (with same stat) it's nice explo.

Your flop size is poor. We want quite a bit of checks on this board. When choose to bet we use big size.

Imo turn is easy xf. We are behind even if he was bluffing. All the semi-bluffs contains higher cards than 7. Meaning when we hit we can get screwd big time (reverse implied odds).

But we are here and hit one of the best river and still not so clear what to do :)

I think block bet/fold is the way. I like 20bb he can still call worse and avoiding checking behind.

Because it's not so clear that we have the best hand so that we are bet/folding on river?

For me its qiute hard to tell anything with huge confidence because i would not find myself in this spot.

Imo he will not call a shove with worse. If we still want to bet we should go small and i doubt he will go all in with a balanced range. That's why i would fold.

If we go w check river that's more intresting. Villain will xb hands we could get value from.

When he goes all in we r kinda fucked. We only beat busted draws but we are blocking the ones (7:c) which would make sense to triple.

I hope others will share their opinions

Fold pre. unless you know he's folding to much pre or on the flop. As played it's an easy fold on the turn. The way you played it it does not make sense to bet the river, since he is super polarised. I'd rather let him bluff and c/c.

Hey, thanks for the input, yeah, loose open on SB, loose call on turn, and a difficult decision on river.

It's hard to ask question like this because so few will find themselves in these spots where they punted preflop and postflop but I think you did a good job.

I made that presumption, yes, but it's just a guess so it is not reliable.

Yeah, okay, I think passive line is a valid option, the villain seems aggressive in position.

River - check / call.
he could call BB vs SB preflop cca 40-45%? Flop rerise some 2 clubs, Qx ....
He should not rerise T9 on the flop or some back doors diamonds.

flop is mix between bet and check

on the river if we have the option check / call allin or shove allin ourself
Solver likes to mix x/c 57 % of time and shove ourself 42 % somewhat.

but never folds to allin if checked.

Limping pre-flop could be a option as well if villain isn't raising to often in position and you keep the pot smaller out of position. If you hit a draw like this you could lead the flop around half pot and call a raise.

Turn I would fold against a over bet and if you call I would check to the aggressor on the river and call a shove with the straight.

Cheers,

I wouldn't develop limp strategy in SB for this high rake environment.

Limping pre is fine if you know the opponent is a fish. Otherwise this is a fold pre. This shouldn't be in your open range vs an unknown.

As played turn is an easy fold. Your flushdraw and gutshot isn't to the nuts, not to mention diamonds are out giving you less clean outs even if you do hit. Both of your draws are dominated. I'm not sure why you would call here.

As played river x/c. And that's the issue here - even after you hit one of your decent outs villain still can have 79 or a flush here.

I don't know to what extent this applies to hold'em, but in draw games, limping is only done from SB in very rare circumstances.
The primary reason is that if you raise you get the blinds rake-free.
If you limp even if you win the pot, you win less.

I do not get why u replied this to me?!
What u wrote is obvious and right.
Only SB qualify for this move.

The only occasion when we want to build a limping strategy is when it has more EV to it compared to only raise/fold strat.

So we can do this if BB is a weak player on lower limits. Otherwise the rake is way too high and not worth bothering with it. I guess nl1k+ we can start impement some shenanigans like this.

Thank you all.

Spoiler

Hero (SB): 141.8 BB
BB: 134.66 BB

Hero posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 7♣ 4♣

fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 3 BB, BB calls 2 BB

Flop: (6 BB, 2 players) Q♦ 6♣ 8♣
Hero bets 2 BB, BB raises to 7 BB, Hero calls 5 BB

Turn: (20 BB, 2 players) J♦
Hero checks, BB bets 28.5 BB, Hero calls 28.5 BB

River: (77 BB, 2 players) 5♦
Hero bets 103.3 BB and is all-in, fold

Hero wins 73.16 BB

I went all in because I felt that the my value range is somewhat disguised. The villain tanked for 60 seconds before folding river.

Because I quite agree with your original statement, and adding at least one more reason why it is true.

Drifter:

So u chose the power move :)
Villain was hollywooding (small chance) or folded 2p/set imo.
I still like my small bet.

I put him on 66/88/QJ because he made an overbet on turn. It's rather narrow but I had to make a decision, but I had questions later.

If solver says shove 47% of the time then I think that's acceptable.

in case villain calls the same frequency as the solver which i doubt a lot.

edit: and imo he does it rightfully cos i bet u won't have enough bluffs.
(ofc i can be wrong)
