SB bets 6.14 BB, Hero calls 6.14 BB

River: (51.48 BB, 2 players) 6♠
SB bets 36.25 BB, Hero ? ?

The villain is from Belarus.<-----What's it mean?

I was going to fold river unimproved but his sizing to me looks so weird, I'm actually thinking about calling.

Does anyone else see it?

Thoughts?

I don't think it's interesting to know villain is from Belarus. In every country you have good and bad poker players.

I would expect you have some reads on the villain in this hand. You played 762 hands against him/her.

Without any reads it's tough to call the river with top pair no kicker.

Cheers,

I believe players come from all over the world to share their culture with us. So, in my experience, what country they are from does give me some information sometimes. Excerpts from "Diary of a calling station"

I just found the bet sizing to be strange. I guess I do pick up on these things because I'm always watching them. Plus he is from Belarus.

Edit: typo

I don't see what is odd about a 2/3 pot-sized bet on both the turn and river.
AT-AK KQ KK are certainly in SBs 3Bet range and you beat just one of those.

in my experience players from belarus or russia are very nitty. Which bluffs can he have on the river ? QJ of spades ?

If hes capable of bluffing the river i guess its a somewhat gto call, but we also have better hands here so i dont mind folding here, i guess calling is also ok. Anyway i think ev wise its somewhat the close and the same between folding and calling.

I suppose theory wise its ok call. Better likely than e.g. AJ assuming villain doesnt value bet AJ or weaker. Its pretty interesting spot as our range will have hard time to have sets or two pairs. 22, A2s, A5s, A6s only?

Interestingly solver says this regarding the river action,

A3dd = call 91.8%, raise 8.2%
A3cc= call 96.7%, raise 3.3%
A3ss= call 100%

BTW, for preflop, vs SB 3bet, A3cc= call 22.5%, 4B= 13.5%, fold= 64.5%

Villains bet sizing is interesting that he/she Cbets less than 1/3 pot on the flop and turn and Cbets more than 2/3 pot on the river.

I don't expect villain would change 99 in to a bluff. It's likely you have at least a ace in your range after the flop and turn call. A3s is most likely 1 of the worst hands in your range now.

What he could 3B - pairs from middle, Axs, some suited conectors.
After flop he present strong hand.
Withou any other information I wpuld call him on the river - we have to call 36bb to pot 86bb.

I maybe see what you mean on bet sizing, flop and turn look like thin value bets (1/3 of pot) then suddenly we are upping our bet on the river to over 2/3 pot. I thought maybe 66 that rivered a set, hard to see 66 betting flop and turn though. Perhaps QQ-TT? With the sample size you probably have a good idea of how they play to justify calling here, but against an unknown I probably fold and just tell myself it sucks playing OOP
