Do you like documentaries? I had to cancel my Netflix subscription due to financial problems, and I miss the documentaries the most. One of my personal favourites is the "72 dangerous animals in <continent>" series, I feel like all the hours I invested in watching them was time well spent.

I used to use the phrase "time well wasted"
I'll check those out — thanks!
It all comes down to my time budget.

I'm sure those documentaries are nice, but I'd be very surprised if things like these were not available elsewhere. Maybe not the exact same documentaries, but there should be other good ones.

"Available elsewhere" means you need to go looking for them.
If you've been following https://forums.pokerstrategy.com/forum/thread.php?threadid=513623&page=1 there are a ton of fascinating animal videos on YouTube, but most are very short.

Thanks!
Both Mrs Vorpal and I had always wanted to go there — even before I met her I wanted to go.
She was the same.

When I graduated from high school, I had $1500 saved up and was going to go then — and yes, it would have been enough.
However, I had won two scholarships to university, and they had to be used in that year, or I would forfeit them.

No problem — I'll take the year, then go.

Problem. I got interested in Geology, and met some cool people (including the future Mrs Vorpal — but that's another story).
I had a sure job at the mine where I grew up, so I decided to get my BSc in Geology and work in the mine until I retired.

The mine closed in my 3rd year.

Australia? By then I was pretty much living paycheck to paycheck and enjoying life.
Finally, more than 50 years since I graduated, I'm going

We plan to make the most of the trip.
We still don't have data on what shore excursions are offered, but Mrs Vorpal is supremely eager to visit Universal Studios in LA.

If anyone knows anything about any of the places listed, I'm open to any suggestions.
We have been to Honolulu twice, so we more-or-less know what to expect there, but all the rest is unknown territory.

Cruise News

The ship — Majestic Princess — that we will be sailing on in September will be in Vancouver tomorrow
On board is a couple we knew 35 years ago when we lived up country — they're returning from a 14-day Alaska cruise.
They will be getting a shuttle from the ship to the airport, where we'll meet them for coffee and conversation for a few hours before they fly home.

This is the ship:

Not that I would mind. There are so many interesting things to see and do on these ships that even if one was to get lost it would not matter.
The first thing to do on board after boarding is to explore the ship.
Luggage is delivered to the cabin.
So step #1 is to eat — since the queues are long when boarding, and typically one is finally on the ship around 14:00
Next is the safety lecture — which is now a video on a mobile device — and a check-in at the proper muster point.
After that go walkabout for a few hours and learn the location of the restaurants, bars and other amenities.

I had a tournament today with a sitout BB, I was SB, just completed with a K9o after 2 limps. The board was pretty dry, so everyone checked it down, to river. I didn't want to bluff a 4-way (3-way actually, but still) pot with my K high, the other two checked too, so the sitout guy won the showdown with a mere pair of 4s with his A4o, it was really funny.

Now That's Funny

I started today with $9.01 on 888, lost it all — one stupid play, one cooler — but I won $0.20 in a freeroll.
So today, almost 4 years to the day since I started keeping track, I am back to exactly where I was when I started.
Oh yeah — I withdrew $900 at the end of June — so $900 profit in 4 years. I'll take it.

The time span is quite big, but IMO making $900 with a $10k bankroll is not that big achievement, but making $900 from $0.20 is quite impressive even if it took that much time. :)

Thanks!
My withdrawal came through to my bank today, and although I withdrew $900 that is not what showed up in my bank account.

Spoiler

I had forgotten to consider exchange rates — I got $1100.xx
