$2 Turbo 18Man - 99 on the River

Against a over bet on the river I would fold against a unknown with only a bluff catcher. Sometimes you could think of Cbetting the flop, but otherwise I would play the same way you did.

This is very reasonable bluff catch versus competent player but question is if we can expect average micro stake player bluffing enough with overbets? I heavily doubt so fold would be advisable. But theory wise we should understand that for our range Kx is very rare, some AQ, QJ are possible. 99 is not blocking JT or flush draws so we would need to find call with some of these type of hands assuming villain bluffing frequency would be reasonable.

do you mean our perceived range that villain might put us on after we didn't CBet Flop and just called Turn?

When we open UTG 8 handed our range is fairly tight. At widest we perhaps have like KTs or KJs as bottom? We would likely cbet hands like AK, AA, KJ, KQ, QQ fair amount of time. KK actually make really nice flop check as we block villain continuation range so much.

But yeah in general player in heroes shoes likely wont think about protecting check range. I suppose we can also argue of cbetting whole range with like 1/3 pot cbet as KQ hit our tight range a lot. That way we dont need to think about how weak our check range is.

For river call issue is that most of player pool doesnt really think about opponents ranges or their own ranges. They mainly play their own hand and in this one villain likely has Qx+ very often.
