G'day dadude77!

It's definitely a nice one - I stole the link off Tony Robbins twitter feed - which I stumbled across whilst following RobbieV's coverage of Nazgul in the WSoP Main Event. :f_eek:

Alrighty then lads! Real stuff this week now that we've sorted the Ocker boys out.

The ultimate challenge for a bunch of devil may care, likely lads from Aotearoa playing the old enemy at altitude.

You Bokke boys must be confident, ja?

Just as a nod to the poker community.. I've stopped losing and am currently, wonderfully, playing break even in purgatory (ie $.50/$1 SH). Some fine tales to tell come month end. Please, please, don't hold your collective breath...:f_mad:

Waiboy challenge back on track after playing some Step 1 SnGs and running HORRIBLY at $1.75 18man SnGs. Current BR something like $4 but with one Step 2 SnG ticket to be used at some future point.

Come on Waiboy. Stop running breakeven. Get a good night of sleep. Launch Mansion poker and take a HOT HOT HOT coffee and go on a heater!!

Just remember Nick, if your boys (could this REALLY happen?) lose, hope that SARFU keep their heads, learn from their NZRU comtempories, and re-appoint their coach until 2011. Short term loss for a long term... um.. GAIN! GAIN! Definitely a gain...

*Waiboy almost loses grip of senses from laughing so hard.*

I reckon there are some pretty good arguments for inter rugby union secondments between the boards in both directions.. I figure both countries will benefit.

Lets hope its a decent game and that somebody and 50,000 of their closest friends show up at the ground to watch.. :f_p:

Yeah... I heard ticket sales have been slow... but ticket prices for international matches have been ridiculous in SA for a long time... 25 mins and counting...

Hey JMack!

Yeah, I'm still taking a rectal pounding day after day in purgatory. One more to the party shouldn't make too much difference! :f_o:

Still, if you can find a table without four reg TAGs on it after more than 10mins on iPoker at the moment you're doing mighty well.

I'll look forward to donking some money your way shortly then! :f_cry:

Fishing season open in purgatory on iPoker at the moment for all you $.50/$1 FL sharks out there. Best tables I've seen all month.

Fucrying out loud, nine months of taking this game semi seriously and it STILL surprises me how sick it can be.

Tell me about it.. in purgatory normally I'm table hopping every 15mins or so because of so many reg TAGs, but I had a 1.5hour session where I had tables FULL of fishes 50/14/1.5 or better. I figure that is what playing two years ago was like.

Maybe it's just a late month status/bonus grind? Although I don't remember seeing such good tables in the two month ends.

The timing couldn't have been better as my BR was in tatters. Still, that's a story for month end.

I was going to play right through the month... and I may, but not on Mansion and not $.50/$1 SH or FR.

So let the wild rumpus begin!

$.50/$1 SH (the majority of my hands played this month)

$1/$2 SH

$.50/$1 - $1/$2 FR combined

All FLHE played for the month SH & FR

Stats for SH

So all in all a pretty tough month. I finished last month with a slight upswing followed by a bit of downswing at $1/$2 SH... I tried to follow recommended BRM for the first time rather than drop down at ~ 450BB as I have previously.. it wasn't a raging success. Of course, the following three or four thousand hands in purgatory didn't help much. :f_o:

My approach changed a couple of times during the month... I initially dealt with the horror show by reducing my tables down to one or two at the most and playing shortish sessions with a session review at the end. After the massive success of this approach I kinda reassessed. So where did that take me? :f_confused:

Well. Initially, it lead to a pretty easy three or four day break from poker around the 20th of the month. I didn't miss it once.. which is weird because every other time I've stopped playing it has continually gnawed away at me.

When I restarted I implemented some changes to my approach. :f_thumbsup:

I've decided 3-4 tabling doesn't really impact on my ability to assess a hand range. Occassionally I forget where I was in a hand, but so rarely does this happen that I don't think it is a major source of leaks. Also, I struggle to focus on the action when I'm not in a hand so I'm not getting any extra reads on players.

I am studying more than ever. This is helped by reading through the books I bought - currently half way through Miller et al's "Small Stakes Hold'em" which has helped reinforce a few things. A lot of the advice applies to FR tables, but the concepts are relevant to SH.

I'll read through Stoxtrader and Zobags book next and then settle down to take notes from whichever offers the most to me in my current position.

I'm getting through the Gold articles slowly, and each one reinforces or reminds me of some concepts I need to apply.

I've been watching videos pretty regularly and trying to "get" the concepts I'm seeing and hearing.

And it seems to me, and its probably bleeding obvious, that it all boils down to pot equity, hand ranges and board textures.

So, now when I'm playing my number one effort goes into working out hand ranges and what the board texture is telling me, given the aggressiveness/passiveness of my opponent and any reads I've gotten from them in terms of what their bet or check may mean. I'm now realising a lot more I've been folding to bets made by LAGgy/maniacal villians on drawy boards. I actually feel like my game is better than ever and that I'm concentrating on the correct things in the middle of hands.

The question I have now, of course, is any of that correct? Because it sure as hell isn't reflected in my results this month. Clearly downswing plays a big part in that because I don't care how bad I am, even I don't think I'm capable of dropping 250BB in 2.8k hands through my leaks. :f_ugly: :f_cry:

Still, somehow, I am managing to stay positive because I'm still learning. I'd like to say improving, but the jury isn't coming back with that verdict anytime soon. From somewhere I have an overwhelming desire to not give in to this freaking game until it has buried me completely.... I still have a couple of air holes I've managed to poke through the dirt so on I go. :f_cool:

So what lies ahead?

Well, I'd really like to clear the $1k bonus at Mansion but I'll be at approximately 380k MCP after this months points boost and after allowing for the Elite three month 105k loyalty boost. Today playing three hours playing as many tables as I could with a reasonable degree of fishiness (both FR and SH) I only made 550 MCPs. Assuming I don't hit a mega heater up to $1/$2 SH then I guess I'm doomed to make, at best, approx 25k MCP per month. That means four more months to make my cash. :f_o:

I think I'd like a change after 8 months of iPoker clients - both Titan and Mansion, but I don't have a ton of options. I'm considering burning my Full Tilt first deposit bonus just for a change of scenary.. I might wait for a bit before doing this and try to free roll a bankroll through the regional MTTs... then again, I might just say "Bugger it" and deposit. The downside is, of course, no strategy points for a month... but as I'll retain Gold status for August I can probably live with that - and regaining Gold status in September shouldn't take too long hopefully.

Ongoing I think I'll play at Titan - their VIP program looks to beat Mansions and they release cash bonus in cash at lower limits... I'm locked at Mansion at the moment because the only cash I can get comes with the nightmare of releasing at the $10/1k MCPs... not gonna happen.

Anyway, enough of the carnage. :f_mad:

Hoping I'm not, but seemingly flying in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, always doomed to be :f_confused: out.

Oh, and as if that monster post needed it, a couple of post scripts.

i. Anyone playing FLSH at $.50/$1 or better and a real willingness to improve reply here and/or add me to skype: Waiboy4Life... if I don't recognise your skype name I'll likely reject ya so make your message clear.

I'd like to try and have at least a couple of one hour sweat sessions a week - one watching, one being watched.... creepy.... :f_p:. The great thing about sweat session is they keep your thought processes honest, and hopefully between you its possible to work out where some improvements can be made.

It's mostly because leak fixing isn't always obvious and I've had enough.

ii. gdjonline and I have tentatively decided to hit the Hamiltron "City of the Future" Skycity Casino on 1 October (to coincide with a Thursday night ANZC game Waikato v Harbour). The idea is to spend a chunk of September trying to get to grips with BSS then go and have a bit of fun. If by some miracle there are some PS.com alumni keen on joining us then do so, otherwise stay tuned for tales of mirth, merriment and bitching about live poker being rigged. :f_p:

iii. Lost. One PS.com friend. Answers to the name BDL. If found please let him know we miss him. :f_frown:

iv. Last thing.. I'm going to start posting in the evaluation forums again... my disclaimer is as follows: I am a losing player... I sometimes sound like I know what I'm talking about, but don't be fooled. Go easy on me when I talk complete bollocks. If you rely on anything other than the hand judges recommendations you deserve everything that's coming to you. Judges decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into.

Hey Waiboy, not here to gload...but why don't your boys kick the ball? I mean the stats and the end say that 73% was played in AB half. And with Morne Steyn its suicide...
