Thoughts and musings

I'm pretty much exactly where I wanted to be at the end of the shortest month of the year. Striking a fine balance between eating well/less and exercise so not going to tinker with the formula going forward.

I'll continue counting calories for one more month, after that I expect to be able to keep track in my head and not be reliant on the pen and paper method I'm currently using!

Will update later today with goals for March - although I expect them to be on par with February's (if it ain't broken don't fix it and all that!)

March goals:

[ ] 1,500 - 1.600 average daily calorie intake
[ ] 30,000 calories deficit
[ ] 1,000 average daily calorie deficit
[ ] 850+km cycle (27.5km per day)
[ ] 12,750+ calories earned via cycling
[ ] 8lb weight loss
[ ] 1 treat dinner every fortnight (takeaway)
[ ] 5 a day fruit/veg combo at least 25 days
[ ] Drink 3 pints of water each day!

Not going to ease up - some of these are relatively easy whilst others leave very little room for error (looking at you km's cycled!)

8lb weight loss should be doable as well - but could also be relatively tight considering 3,500 calories generally = 1 lb.

Gonna rotate my nightly treat (usually eat 100 calories of chocolate most evenings with a cup of tea) Will mix in biscuits/yogurt/fruit in lieu.

Right, time to stop typing and start cycling - it's my day off so let's get cracking!

I don't know how big you are but as your diet last longer you will lose less wait. Just watch out it does not demotivates you. Are you also keeping track of how much water you daily drink?
I am also working on my health and stuff and switched a bit from the number on the scale to appreciate the workout and enjoy being healthy! or healthier than before :)

I have much respect for your sport discipline. :f_love: Myself I am totaly unsporty and hope to be able to keep on a 20 min daily workout as soon as I am fit again.

Yes - mentally prepared for this - the closer I get to where I want the harder it most certainly will be - but thank you!

I'm terrible for drinking water - absolutely shocking.... BUT..... in the last week I've started a thing..... 3 pints of water minimum per day....

Will edit that into my goals actually!

GL with your own health adventure, my friend.

In previous slogs I walked, 10km a day and it did fuck all - so I'm glad in a way I found something alternative - just have to hope my knees hold!

When I was working for a major Canadian brewer, our bonus was based on how many (and how well) we had achieved our goals for the year.
So each "bonus day" my supervisor and I would sit down and compile a list of things we had already accomplished — or were at least imminently accomplished — but that no-one knew about yet.

The sad part is that I was a contract worker, and didn't actually get a bonus, but still had to set the goals.
But the boss was a decent sort and when he got his he'd buy me lunch. Mind you, he bought lunch most days, but still...

I started off the month with 45km on the bike - making most of my day off.

My daughter's first year (secondary school/high school) parent/teacher meeting was this evening - pleased to report an excellent outcome!

Most of her test results were in the mid-high 80s - so I'm a very proud Dad today.

Did hear some "very chatty, easily distracted" comments but take those with a pinch of salt if exam results are trending in the positive (as they were!)

With that taking place during our usual dinner team - and with the results good - we indulged in a takeaway!

I'd usually be all over a beef burger but decided to go the lower-calorie route and had a chicken burger which was absolutely amazing! That with a portion of chips (french fries) on the side and I'm fully satisfied.

forget the outcome — let's hope she gets an excellent income for all her hard work.

As for the other — "easily distracted" is the sign of a nimble mind. I used to get similar marks with comments like "Vorpal is not working to his potential".
It is fairly likely that teachers have 3 spinners — two that make postive comments and one negative, and you receive one from each wheel.

35km today - a strong start to March.

I have an office day on Tuesday which will likely mean zero cycling as I'll leave at 6 am and not return home until 8:30 pm

Hence the early push!

Aiming for another 30-35km tomorrow.....

Hey, how many time a day are you investing in sports?
I saw in the start of the tread you are in my aga category (i'm turning 38 this year). I have done sports al my life but it always stopped because it was to time consuming to fit into other parts of life (work, houshold, friends, ...). I'm curious how you do this?

Depends on the length of my cycle and how much I do in a day :)

I can do 5km in 8 minutes, so the average of 30km per day is about 30-40 minutes.

I usually break it up into smaller cycles of 5km, 10km and 15km depending on how I'm feeling and how tired the legs are after the previous day!

I work from home so I can walk upstairs and start cycling when I'm on my breaks/lunch.

I'd usually cycle 5km on break 10-15km on lunch and then another 10-15km in the evening if that helps.

.

Cheers mate - nothing in life is easy - is it?

I think this is the key month - it's gonna be difficult to get easy losses this month as the water weight is now worked off - this is why I'm determined to work that bit harder in March.

The strong start to the month has continued...

Another 45km in the books, although my dinner (Chicken Kievs, Mashed Potatoes and Broccoli) coupled with a larger than normal lunch meant it was kinda needed to stop on top of things!

3.5K calories in deficit in the first 3 days should "technically" mean I've lost a pound at this point (not checking!)

I do need some low calorie lunch ideas

At the moment I'm usually eating

A sandwich 3-4 times per week + low cal crisps (70-85cal)
Variations incl Ham / 1/2 tin salmon / Tuna / Ham & Cheese
(400-500 cals)
Soup and brown bread
(200-300 cals)
Omellete (3-4 eggs)Ham, Red Onion and 10g mixed grated cheese)
(350-500 cals)
Scrambled Egg (3 eggs)
(350-500 cals)
Breaded Chicken Fillet Wrap (Red Onion, Light Mayo, Sweet Chilli, 10g mixed cheese)
(500-550 cals)*
*Treat lunch only once per week!

Soup is the best for calories and ofc goodness but would appreciate some suggestions!

Sounds cool, UPAY.
I´m not so sure if one can measure the calorie-output accurately, there are many factors which play a role: age, hormones, stress levels, sleep, genetics and temperature. I would just focus on a lower calorie input. That should be enough.

From the sayings of Vorpal the Wise
Wraps put food in laps

If Mrs Vorpal serves me a wrap, I grab a plate and eat the accursed thing with a knife and fork

That's probably a stupid question, but you do fold the bottom of the wrap over, do you?

Some people like to fold both the bottom and the top over, and then cut the tortilla in half to make two smaller wraps with a clean edge. I tried it once, but it wasn't my thing.

Those egg salad wraps look good, btw.
