UPAY, I looked up on Nash Calculator for SnGs and AJo is not in the calling range. I have to admit, that I have to study the calling ranges yet, which will be one of my next steps. I´m more familiar now with the push-ranges first in, gotta refine those, then we will go right to the calling-ranges. ♠_biggrin:
Memories coming back
I start to remember a couple of things: the push any2-spots, some re-jam ranges, how to play certain pocket pairs, SnG strategy... well, memories are coming back. Still a bit rusty, though, but we´re improving. ♠_thumbsup:♠_ugly: Played a roller coaster session on Stars and what I can say from my preflop equities is, that I must run below EV because my Acies got cracked about four times ♠_ugly:, yep. Those are those 20 %. ♠_ugly: Nevertheless, I could win a couple of SnG, take a couple of 2nd places and one third. There must be a litte profit anyway, not much, but something.
I also remember my absolute "hate-hands" ♠_ugly: which are JJ and AJ. ♠_ugly:
Lost value or ok?
Not so sure about AJ

I started to mark the loose Callers, those Villains, who don´t understand the concept of SnG and Bubble play, so that I can adjust my range to their (super loose) calling range. Altogether I perceived my todays session as pretty unlucky, either (correctly) jamming into monsters (AJ into KK and 77 into TT for expample) or the hands just didn´t survive the all-in.
I would guess, we lost a bit, but can´t tell exactly. Could win 2 SnGs, make 2 second places and a couple of third places. Bubbled also a couple of times. As we don´t worry about short term results, let´s look at a hand (which I think I played poorly), shall we?
I think this was not a great postflop play

Would not mind fold preflop. As suited it would be easy call. Flop and turn calls are ok but just fold river. I would also fold turn if villain bet half pot.

Found the Holdem Ressources Nash Calculator, which I will use to get into the ranges.
Seemed like call to me (though I have not played these in long time) so had to check:

So assuming this was 9man with 50/30/20 then looks like solid call. Villain probably has to be tighter than 15% to possibly fold (out of hat guess). Versus BU shove it would be fold but ICM tax is obviously way higher then.
PS: Here is link to hrc free calculator with numbers I used: https://www.holdemresources.net/nashicm?action=calculate&s1=1000&s2=1470&s3=4825&s4=3320&s5=2885&p1=50&p2=30&p3=20&sb=100&bb=200&ante=0

Could 3bet pre but fine either way imo. Hand is bit weak to 3bet-stack off and bit ugly to 3bet-fold. As played flop call is good. Turn versus this sizing I would be tempted to raise small and probably same on river. Versus more reasonable turn and river bet sizes this hand is standard x-c though.

Seems like I´m not that rusty.
Anyway, gonna take a day off from the tables today. I´m mentally stable, but planning to play more tomorrow and get some rest today. Using the day off from the tables to think about a decent schedule and about getting Poker Tracker again, maybe? Wouldn´t be such a bad idea, I guess.

Back when I was using Poker Tracker 4, I found it more useful for cash games. In SNGs, it was mostly just for results tracking and grabbing hands, for which you don't strictly need any software. I also remember some wrong results in the tracking - this may be fixed by now, if this ever was an issue.
Then again, I think it also had some ICM Trainer style exercises, those could come in handy.
Maybe any of you SNG grinders can recommend some must-have tools?
Swiss cheat day
As my regular followers know, I am very much into sports, fitness and health stuff. To those who are new to this blog: I´ve been very sporty for my whole life and a former top athlete. So, it is very clear that I´m still into dieting, exercise, fitness and such stuff, even as almost-best-ager
While during my younger years it was mainly about performance and looks, now, being not 20 anymore, it´s mainly about health and fitness. Of course I still want to look good but I cannot expect looking like a 25-year old.
It´s more about staying fit and healthy - physically and mentally. Nevertheless, I would like to lower my body fat percentage which is around 20,5 % at the moment (roughly) to 18 % or even lower. Hey, why not?
This is why I follow a low carb clean eating calorie-restriced diet - on 6 days a week, one day per week, I give myself a day off. Saturday is my "cheat day" and today, I´m having whatever I want. I´m not a big fan of industrial (junk food) (which has also ethical reasons), but what I do like are sweets and cheese! Today, I will enjoy yummy Swiss cuisine, my lunch, as well as my dinner are going to be Swiss food - whith lots of CHEESE!
Let´s have some Cholera!
No, not the disease. That´s the name of a kind of "vegetable cake", which is a speciality from Wallis, Switzerland. It´s not even junk food and not even unhealthy but pretty high in calories.
It´s a cake made of leek, potatoes and cheese. I used glutenfree puff pastry (oh, what a calorie sin!) for mine:
The shape of the cake is normally round, but there was so little puff pastry in that package from "Schär" (manufacturer of glutenfree foods), that I couldn´t make a round cake. Had to improvise with this box shape.
Big girls don´t cry
So guys, I have some good news and some bad news from todays SnG session: The good news are that I´m getting into the pre- and postflop play, stealing blinds, push-fold-ranges and I had the feeling that I already got better. Another good news is, that gladly, I can have some chocolate today. ♠_ugly: The not so good news are, that variance is not on our side at the moment. Absolutely not! We either get the absolute worst junk hands, missing 99 % of the flops and either jam (correcly) into a monster or our monsters got recklessly cracked. Well: Let´s have some chocolate! ♠_ugly:
I can definitely report a very unlucky SnG session, which can be devastating and "soul crushing": I´ve been there already in 2019!:rage: Good that BRM is super tight at the moment, I remember when I had such a phase back then and how desperate I was, questionning myself and my play all the time, nothing worked out and eventually, I couldn´t take it anymore and stopped playing SnGs. And that was TOO BAD! And I won´t make that mistake again! That´s a guarantee! Today, I played more than enough SnGs, so, I can easily take a break now or play something else. Let´s see. But first things comes first: The chocolate! ♠_ugly:
Even though I´m normally very self-critical and always try to improve, I was confident with the ranges, we´re just on the dark side of variance. That´s all. That´s going to change some time ... sooner or later.

The only trackers I know of that do all games are fpdb — which is totally free but has no support, and pokeit which does everything, but is quite pricey.
Actually, I remember one that was for free, it tracked also SnGs and preflop. Forgot the name. Something with "J...." ?
As my cheat day comes to an end .....
I´m pretty full. The Swiss type of "mac n cheese" is for Homer :f_biggrin::f_ugly:. Would be too much. Just had a small cheese sandwich, that´s it. I also eat cheese at my normal diet-days, but not so much and the lean Protein-cheese, not the fatty one. ♠_biggrin:
Today is DEFINITELY not my lucky day....
Played a bit CG (PLO5 and NL5/NL2) and variance had no mercy on me! In PLO I lost twice with top set versus gutshot! Could make only once a set and take a stack, the rest: flops mostly completely missed, junk hands or Villains found their miracle card on turn or river. Enough for today! We´re 4€ down in CG (I don´t mind the results in CG), so almost one stack down. It´s not a tragedy, but it´s enough bad luck for today.
Hey, who remembers "good old Poo-Boy"? :mdr::mdr::mdr:
By the way, my poker plans are getting slowly a bit more precise: From April on I plan the bigger sessions with CG on Fridays and Saturdays - in March I still have tennis practice on Fridays, but in April outdoor season starts and we won´t have indoor tennis practice anymore on Fridays. So: As Fridays and Saturdays the bigger sessions are planned, I will take Sundays off. On Sundays we plan nice bicycle tours as soon as the weather gets a bit better, so a good day to take a day off from the poker tables. This time, I will not only focus on profitable play, but also on having proper rest! Especially after sessions like today. My resting days will be Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays! Even after good sessions it´s important to have proper rest and recovery and time for other hobbies. This way, I can stay focussed and prevent tilt, which is one of the most important things.
Yaaay, and after this poo poo session today, I´m really looking forward to focussing on other hobbies tomorrow! ♠_thumbsup::banana:
