Nice man!

I have calmed down considerably with my cycling but did manage 30k today with 20s most other days last week.

Its been a while since I hit 40!

Update

This month has been a grind and I've not made as much headway as in previous months.

That, of course, was to be expected - there were always going to a bump/bumps in the road.

I have dropped 5 lbs so far this month versus my last recorded weight in this blog. This month I've been in full yo-yo mode. Easter, kids off school for Easter, soccer training, matches, rounders training, rounders games, it's been hard getting time to cycle as much!

From today - I'm back in full reporting mode and will continue until the end of May.

As I've lost over 2.5 stone (29.6lbs) I've had to readjust my allowed daily intake of calories.

Previously 2,200
Now 2,000

37-day plan (end May 31, 2023)
Current weight 13 stone 5.5 lbs (187.5 lbs / 85.05kg)
Allowed calories per day 2,000
Add 450 calories per day from cycling (30km) average
Consume 1,500 per day (average)
Overall calorie deficit 35,150
Weight loss guestimate (10lbs)
Weight goal 12 stone 7 lbs (175 lbs / 79kg)

12 stone 7 was the original goal I had my in head when I started this whole idea.
Why this figure? I had back surgery (discs) when I was 21 and that was my weight on the morning of that surgery. It is by no means small (it's still overweight) but it would be a satisfying achievement.

If I get there and feel comfortable with my appearance I can stop there, or alternatively keep going further.

Let's get there first shall we..............

I wouldn't put too much stock into what officially counts as overweight. "Ideal" weight is what... height in cm plus 100 for the ideal weight in kg? That's what I've heard one time. I'm about 180-185 cm tall, so ideal weight would be 80-85 kg for me? I think that's way too little. I currently weigh around 95 kg, and I think that's a little on the light side already, I'm aiming for about 100 kg.

Clearly you have some other standards for yourself, but without knowing anything about your height, I assume aiming for around 80 kg should be reasonable, I wouldn't go too far below it.

I'm not putting any stock into anything mate.

BMI is an absolute joke. I've just left the "obese" category behind and moved into the "overweight" category

To show you how ludicrous it is I've marked my starting, current and end position according to it (1, 2, 3)

It's hard to see because I'm shit at drawing lol but take a look at the 5ft 7 category and go downwards

So you can see I have a long way to go to being the correct weight "medically" but fuck that I'd be a stick man!

12 and a half will be a good finish point for now.

Well according to your chart I have a health weight β€” 5' 11" and 75kg
The problem is I have dreadful muscle mass and a beer gut.
My weight is healthier than I am.

:f_biggrin:

I also think health is more than numbers on a chart. I'm in the orange zone but eat healthy most of the time. I had college's who are in the green but eat junk food all day every day so yeah use common sence would be my advise.

Well done on the 8kg loss - it's not easy!

It is insanity - I actually cannot understand how this is "legal"

That was taken from the Irish Health Board (HSE) website and I assume it's much the same across the world.

Solid progress this week. Should be locking in a 3lb deficit by the end of the month.

The return to writing out my calorie intake is paying early divends.

I just bought a random Medium sized tee-shirt and it fit!!!!!

I say it fits, it is a little on the snug size so there's some room for improvement there but I definitely could "get away with it"

I'd safely say the last time I wore a medium tee was 15+ years ago lol.

Happy days!

My weight is healthier than I am.

This is why weight is just a mere number and I donΒ΄t give a poo about my weight - what I care about is body fat percentage!
I donΒ΄t even have a scales at home. _biggrin:

April goals:

Dietary/Weight loss

1.5K calories in (Daily Average)
Cycle 40km on 27 out of 30 days
Lose 10.5 lbs
Weight <13 stone on May 1st

Results:
April did not run exactly as intended as previously stated. I had more 6 days of annual leave, coupled with the kids and Mrs being off work and I lost some momentum around Easter. That said, I didn't hit the "fuck it" button (more importantly) and towards the end of the month, I was back in the zone.

Weight on May 1st = 183.5 lbs / 83.23 kg

39.5 lbs lost since the beginning which is just shy of 18kg (17.92kg to be exact)

Getting close to the magic number of 175 lbs / 79.37kg.

The previous plan set out to incorporate until the end of May was laid out here

I will be reducing my allowed calories with each weigh-in using https://www.omnicalculator.com/health/rm r" rel="nofollow ugc" target="_blank">this calculator

Today I start from 1,995 calories as an example.

I aim to cycle 450 calories per day average, using overage to build in time/days off.

Yesterday I did 750 cals on the bike giving myself a 300 cal headstart (meaning I can cycle 150 cals today, if I wish)

It makes sense to me, but probably confused anyone reading who cares!

I had a discussion with a friend recently, and we were comparing notes.
In 2020 I was in Hawaii and discovered a bulge on my abdomen. Not being a total idiot, I did not go to an American doctor, but waited until I got home.
I was 216 lbs (98kg 15 st 6) and the Dr told me I had a hernia, but he could not operate until I was at most 188 lbs (85kg 13st 6).
It took me 4 months. Over the next 2 years I was up to 192 max, but doing pretty much nothing other than watching [how muchk/i] I ate, I'm now at 162 (73.5kg 11st 8).
On our trip to Australia I actually lost a couple of lbs, as did Mrs Vorpal.

I don't know if this is true, but I've been told often that if you eat too little, you'll actually gain weight. You can find such advice on line quite easily, but who knows?

I asked this question of ChatGPT:
No, it is not true that eating too little will cause weight gain. In fact, it is generally the opposite. When you consume fewer calories than your body needs, you create a calorie deficit, and your body will begin to use stored fat as an energy source, which can lead to weight loss.

However, it is important to note that eating too little can have negative effects on your overall health, such as weakness, fatigue, and nutrient deficiencies. Additionally, severe caloric restriction can slow down your metabolism, making it harder to lose weight in the long term.

In summary, eating too little will not directly cause weight gain, but it can have negative effects on your health and weight loss efforts. It is important to maintain a healthy balance of nutrients and calories to support your overall well-being.

You can definitely do damage by not eating enough calories in a day.

My Doctor recommended a minimum of 1,500 per day in the beginning, which is something I stuck to on an average basis each month.

I'm in no danger of malnutrition at this point as my calories required for maintenance is now 1,992 per day (vs 2,266)

Appreciate the sage advise though mate, as always :)

I played on a new poker site this month (won't name it)

Mostly tournaments and freerolls

Deposited €95 and have withdrawn the lot as they've removed pretty much all their tournaments in favour of step satellites to $1K+ events

Have a very nice bankroll now (€700+) and nowhere to play!
