My Deck is Clean

It took 3.5 hours including getting everything ready.
I still haven't put the machine[1] away yet, since I may need to do some touch up once it's dry.

What a Major Pain

We were all set to switch ISP, and I spent the last three days going through mountains of email addresses and changing every one I found.
The installer for the new ISP arrived this morning, and as we're discussing where things would go, he asked, "Where is the nearest phone outlet?"
"Why would fibre optic need a phone outlet?" I asked.
"Fibre? What fibre?", he replied, "This order is for a standard copper line."

So I had to cancel the entire thing, since the copper line can only get me less than 20% of the bandwidth I'm currently getting.

Cursed salesman thought he'd pull a fast one — and almost got away with it.

Rabbit Hole

I was trying to figure out what the odds are of completing the "cardstrike" promo on 888
You can read about it here: https://forums.pokerstrategy.com/forum/thread.php?postid=3406692#post3406692

My attempt at figure out the probability of completing the task resulted in a number that was far to high — about 17%.
So I spent most of the past three days writing a simulation to see how likely it was.

It turns out to be less than 5%
If the purpose of a promotion is to entice players to play more, or perhaps to entertain them while they play or perhaps provide a little rakeback, this one fails on all counts.

My latest run of the simulator was ten thousand iterations long, — in other words 450,000 hands — and resulted in only 458 successes

Hi Lifetimeupswing,
Welcome to PokerStrategy.com :welcome:

I'm not sure what you mean by those, but I'll take it as a compliment.

Cheers,

Font Test

Almost everything I do in text editors, I use a monospaced font.
It helps with aligning stuff on a page.
Oh yeah — one other trick is required to line up columns in a forum post: Instead of spaces, you need to use "non-breaking" spaces.
To get a non-breaking space on a desktop keyboard, hold down the alt key and on the numeric keypad, type 0160 then let up the alt key.
Like so: "     " (5 non-breaking spaces)
If you just use regular spaces, the browser rendering engine collapses them all to a single space.
like so: " " (5 regular spaces)

For Example, here is an excerpt from an Excel file in a normal font:[1]
 Col 1  Col 2   Col 3    Col 4
 Row 1   3.44   -3.51  1148.00
 Row 2  -1.61    5.20   121.30
 Row 3   4.30  115.70    -7.00
   Sum   6.13  117.39  1262.30

And again, using a monospaced font:[2]
 Col 1  Col 2   Col 3    Col 4
 Row 1   3.44   -3.51  1148.00
 Row 2  -1.61    5.20   121.30
 Row 3   4.30  115.70    -7.00
   Sum   6.13  117.39  1262.30

So what's the point of this post?
Intel has released a mono-spaced font called IntelOne Mono into the public domain. I Installed it on my computer, and I wanted to see if it would work in forum posts.
 Col 1  Col 2   Col 3    Col 4
 Row 1   3.44   -3.51  1148.00
 Row 2  -1.61    5.20   121.30
 Row 3   4.30  115.70    -7.00
   Sum   6.13  117.39  1262.30

So — what does the above block look like on your computer?
Let me know if it is even slightly different when compared to the other monospaced block.

Oh one more thing — no, I did not manually type all those tables — I have a script that does that from within Excel.

[1] This is the code from the first block

 Col 1  Col 2   Col 3    Col 4
 Row 1   3.44   -3.51  1148.00
 Row 2  -1.61    5.20   121.30
 Row 3   4.30  115.70    -7.00
   Sum   6.13  117.39  1262.30

[2] This is the code from the second block note that the only difference is the font name

 Col 1  Col 2   Col 3    Col 4
 Row 1   3.44   -3.51  1148.00
 Row 2  -1.61    5.20   121.30
 Row 3   4.30  115.70    -7.00
   Sum   6.13  117.39  1262.30

They look indistinguishable at first glance.

But in order to be completely sure, I copied the IntelOne Mono block over the first one in MS Paint, after setting the background color to the one in the post and selecting transparent mode, so I could catch even the slightest deviation. And sure enough, both blocks were completely identical.

Feel free to give it a try yourself with the screenshot above.

Thanks for taking the time to check.
The first thing I noticed in your screenshot, is that the IntelOne Mono font seems to have lost it's fixed-width characteristics — but only in places.
Since the font was not available on your computer, your browser picked a close match.

Here is a screenshot of how it appears on my computer:
As you can see the number 3 is different in the two

Knowing that, I'll continue to use either consolas or courier new, both of which are extremely installed with windows, and (I presume) on linux.

Fairly Good Freeroll Result

First FT in ages

Unless I get supremely lucky I'll finish in second — I have 0.2 BB left on the break.
This is the hand that set up the run...

Last Minute Late Reg Funnies

Out of 9 players at the table, 8 reistered just now.
The late reg period ends at the end of the 6-minuted bread, so not too surprising I guess.

At this blind level, I could theoretically fold into the money, but where's the fun in that?

This is never a good idea, I played way to tight at some final tables only to end up bubble boy.
