It was 4bet pot, he had hit his crap and I sucked out. I think the flop was something like 245 and I had AA68, money went in on the flop. He had K633. And this 3bet K633 and call 4bet was before his monkey tilt.

There was another "somewhat active" players in the pool for a while too. Pot preflop with every hand, every situation, stacked off post flop with any hand, any situation. And send emotes between hands. Either he was just having fun, he was drunk or both. He played 1 table, and just crushed everyone. Quite fast he went to over 1000bb stack. Then as fast he came down and left. Came back a bit later, tried the same thing but lost couple buyins and left.

I agree with Gothicrow. Usually the big pots are not the ones where the majority of profits come, IF the opponent is somewhat solid. To make a big pot, both should have a big pot hand. And it's hard to make big mistakes with big pot hands. Exception is when opponents do things that we wouldn't do (like 3betting K633 and then calling 4bet). Versus "solidish" opponents saved money is won money. If we can lose a bit less in situations where they would lose more, we gain edge and EV. And to lose less when variance gives you a hard time, we gain edge and EV.

So many times i have seen that "solid" players play weak hands against maniac. They just dont have the patient and they think that they can play those overpairs or top pairs against them. And they end up off losing.

I agree with Gorhicrow too. You cant do anything when the money goes in and your flipping or u have the 70/30 situition. But you can do alot when you have 20-30bb on the flop more often than the all-in shove.

Against aggros it's sometimes hard to think where the thin line is. If we play too tight, it's +EV but we still miss a lot of value. If we widen our ranges too much, it's the same thing. The most important thing is to have a plan and strategy behind the actions. If the plan is "I hope he has weak hand" it will fail. When we hope to hit instead of solid math and strategy behind, it won't work in the long run.

Today was one of those "shouldn't have posted anything about rungood" as it evened out. EV wise session was good. 3buyins down, but there were quite many setups and opponents calling most of the stack with draw and hitting it when 1/10 pot behind etc. But it was brutal. Every big combo draw faced blank-blank runouts, and I lost constantly all-ins as favorite. So nothing special, variance just giving a different look today. But when you play with people who call raise on KTTss flop with A876r, it's painfull to see them making those runner runners over and over again. There is also one Finnish reg whom I have figured out quite well. I managed to get money in multiple times with 60%+ equity, today he won almost all all-ins.

Sometimes poker is like that, you execute your strategy perfectly and it's not enough. Feels bad, but when I look the overall graph it helps. Even just for a week, I am still up and winrate is over 20bb/100. Feels stupid to complain about the run. :f_drink:

FFS I folded AA on AQQ6K board on the river. We were super deep, I made a 3bet preflop and flop was 4way. SB had cold called my 3bet. I cbet flop with small bet, and SB quickly calls. Turn is blank, I bet again and he quickly raises. At this point I was quite worried, and called. On the river quickly bets for pot, about 250bb bet.

Opponent was loose preflop, but hadn't done anything crazy postflop. Hadn't seen a single bluff from him. I think the chance for him to overplay any Qxxx is so small, that I wouldn't count on it at all. His range is therefore AQ/QQ, and as it's 3bet pot I think he might be a bit worried about AA. Or think at least a little on the flop, as it is 3bet pot and I 3bet preflop versus an open and a call. I don't know why, but on the flop I had this intuition that I talked about in Ghaleon's blog. It didn't feel good at all, as it should be. Turn raise just emphazised that. If he had AQ, wouldn't he think on the river when the K comes, as KK beats him? It felt like quads, it smelled like quads and I am quite sure that often enough in the showdown it would have looked like quads. Might have been good hero fold, or a horrible one. The most annoying thing is that I don't know.

This was WTF moment of the day.

Spoiler

Shorty limps, there's another limper and I open from SB. Table had been quite passive, no aggros on it. On the flop I cet and shorty shoves. I call, got stuck on staring his hand. And was quite amazed how I lost it, I thought he was drawing quite thin on the flop!

Quess how much he has equity on the flop?

Seriously, you could not take one for the team here? Now WE are annoyed that we won't know!

I once made a call in similar situation on a stream, just to prove that I was right. But it was was smaller price to pay.

Wow, in next February, PLO Primetime turns 7 years old. That's quite many Primetimes over the years... What special we should come up with for the anniversary stream?

Wow, one of the sickest session in a while. Played 6 tables for about an hour and half. In the end, I had about 2000bb (20 buyins) in 6 tables. But only 2buyins profit. There were three parts in the session:

Beginning was good, piled up some chips and it looked like a normal session.

In the middle I played few tables as HU, and suddenly those high VPIP players just started to punish me. Quads vs nut boat, straight flush vs full house etc. I had pretty good idea about their ranges, and constantly managed to get big bets in while ahead, but they spiked the rivers. Or slow played flopped nuts and I valuetowned myself. But when they make call downs on monotone boards with naked top pair for 3 streets, you want to valuebet them with wider ranges. After those beats couple aggros joined the full tables, and started to suckout on constant basis. Money in with nuts, nothing out versus draws or backdoors.

Last 30mins were wild to the other way. I scooped couple big pots and climbed back up. Once again a good reminder, that the tide will turn. Just give it some time.

HU versus call happy recreationals is super profitable, but can be super swingy too. As you want to create spots where they make big calls with draws, especially on the turn. When they don't hit those, it seems so easy to make money. When they start to hit their draws, it can be really frustrating. Today one of those opponents came to table with 40bb, and was at 500bb after some time. But I reminded myself that he got the stack for sucking out on all-ins few times and then hitting straight flush versus my boat. The only way he can win money from me is sucking out, so it's a ll good. The money will come back to me one day.

Played a short session at Unibet, as I had few bucks there from Tuesday's live stream. There was one high vpip player, that was overplaying hands. I just couldn't get his chips, as he always found a way to climb back up. He won a big pot, 200bb deep and 3bet pot, flop is A92 and money goes in. I have AA, he has A9xx. Makes a runner runner straight. I played some PLO4 and PLO10 tables as the traffic was quite low. I had a set time limit, and just few hands before I was about to quit, I got 200bb in from the flop at PLO10 versus that guy. Set vs naked top pair in single raised pot. Solid.

With that hand the session ended up in profit. I was thinking while playing that it was like crawling in mud or running in quick sand. But patience is a virtue.

Played another session in the evening, and this was a bit surprising hand to see:

Spoiler

Opponent is aggro, and attacks very often if shown weakness or hero is capped. I open, he 3bets and 3rd player comes along. Flop goes checked, and on the turn he bets big. I have 2 nut outs, but I am quite sure he would bet big on the river with most of his hands. So the decision on the turn is also pretty much for river bet. As expected, he fires river. Common mistake versus these aggros is to think one street at a time. If I think on the turn "can't fold a flush, and I do have 2 outs..." but then on the river if I think "oh shit he goes big, maybe he has it this time..." I would bleed chips away.

I really thought he would have high heart blocker or high flush. He was the 3bettor, so AA definitely in his range. My turn call range should he very flush heavy K776 was a bit surprising hand to 3bet and go double barrel even for him.

Had a good day versus another aggro too. I made quite many river check-calls with strong hands, as he was determined to bluff every time I gave him the room. I also got 4 times money in preflop with AA or AKK versus some really random junk. Sometimes those maniacs crush the tables, today he lost about 6-8 buyins to me in a short period of time.

Christmas time, and games are good.

Had a rough run, known good customer decided to hit 2 outer on flop/turn all-ins three times in a row for stacks, in HU. I took a little break, enjoyed sauna, beer and dry sausage. Accompanied with death metal music in sauna. Relaxing as hell!

After that the session was once again looking like a ski jump slope. Going down, and peak at the end. Was typical non-good-run session: I grind up stacks, and then someone coolers or sucks out for stacks. Rinse and repeat. Break evenish, until Mr.Gamble joined the table. Potted pre every hand, stacked postflop every time. No matter how many players there were. I flopped straight in 3bet pot and 200bb stacks went in, he had the nut straight and I had 2nd nut straight. Typical.

But I got little revenge!

Spoiler

This was preflop all-in. I open, MP calls (lol), aggro CO 3bets (of course, that fells into 100% range), I call, MP 4bets (second lol), CO pots and so on. I win with top pair, lol.

This was the "JUSTICE!" moment of the session:

Spoiler

BTN opens, I 3bet and he 4bets (lol). I pot and money goes in. First thing in my head when I saw his hand was "WHY?". Then the flop came, and I was like FML... Turn was justice.

Friday evening, holidays... Lots of gamblers in the tables. Not just aggros, but real gamblers. They don't care for odds or EV, they play PLO like slots. You put money in, see the cards and maybe you win something. I mean why would someone want to play for stacks with 9776ss if he had any interest for strategy?

Those last pots made the day little profitable, but the EV was a LOT higher. I hope the run evens a little during the holidays!

Ah the holidays, I thought...
Ah, getting few beers and playing few hands, I thought...
Session started well, life was good I thought...

It's always hard to get action with quads:

Spoiler

Here I got three calls on the flop. KK22 called all the way down.

It's also nice to have quads vs nut boat for once:

Spoiler

Kudos for opponent not to raise river with nut boat and 6bb's behind, lol.

Sick day, got quads for third time:

Spoiler

After that last hand, it started to go downhill. VPIP 83 player, who never folded flop or turn, seemed to shove river very often if I checked to him. His river shove vs check when board changed was close to 100. And I was so often in a situation where I bet/raise flop, bet big on the turn with nuts and on the river I have about half a pot behind, board chances and he shoves. After he had done it for some time, I made couple plays where I check-called with flushes or sets where backdoor straight gets there and everything else misses. He had it always.

Gotta get back to the grinding, maybe today the poker gods are not that cruel.

As Ghaleon said in his blog, it's cold here in Finland. It was also cold at tables for New Years Eve and today, I struggle to make any profits and slowly lost few buyins. Quite an amount of set vs set setups (versus players who stack off with any 2 pairs or even OESD), bad rivers and so on. On the other hand I won a lot of pots, so overall it was quite decent run to lose only 10-20 buyins with tons of setups and suckouts.

But as usual, patience gives the rewards. Got it all back today and little more. There were couple of really weird decisions from opponents today:

Spoiler

SB vs BB, I open pre. Opponent was a bit aggro versus checks, and I had check-raised flop in previous hand. Check-raised him again, bet turn and bet river. His hand was really surprising to see, as he bet-called flop with that hand. It looks like either he planned to call and rep straight with that 4 blocker, or use JJ as bluff catcher with a single blocker. Not sure if either plan is that good. Turn was one outer J and he changed the plan to call, and just couldn't fold the river.

Later in the session he called my flop bets 100% times, and folded a lot to turn barrels. And every time I checked turn, he bet. Nice plan, but it didn't really work for him as I barreled with bluffs/semibluffs and check-raised or check-called with value hands.

Spoiler

This was probably one of the most heroic bluff catches I have ever seen. I open pre, and he donks the flop. I call, and on the turn I bet, he calls. Now that is one weird call and I haven't found logic. Maybe he was sure I have 2 pairs or something, but even versus that he has probably 6 outs only. On the river he checks, I bet and he calls. So he wasn't trying to bluff me on pairing rivers. Not sure what he was supposed to beat on the river, except A high with a blocker.

Well, to be honest if I have had that A high blocker I would be REALLY suspicious about his call.

Kyyberi's guide on how NOT to play Aces:

Spoiler

Opponent minopens pre (mistake #1) and minbets flop (mistake #2). I raise 3/4 of a pot and he minraises me back (mistake #3). I pot, he tanks and shoves (mistake #4). I started to wonder, which mistake of those four is the worst?

Last one I would say. A♣: is in general good for cbet but yeah he would want to have more blockers to bet such dynamic flop. What would be our line if he just called flop and went pot turn, pot river? Ever folding?

This was super weird decision from a "reg" of the pool:

Spoiler

Preflop was 6way limped pot. On the flop Korkotili (BB) bets half a pot, 3bb into pot of 6bb. Gets 5 calls (lol), and flop is still 6way. He bets 18bb into pot of 24bb, which should tell people that he might have a hand. Reg mentalaustrian (not solid, more of a "I spew a little every now and then" reg) min-raises, and good customer cold calls. I am quite happy to fold my Khigh flush, and I was sure that is nut flush vs straight flush cooler. Korkotili shoves and mentalaustrian folds. I tried to think of a hand that min-raise-folds when there is still 5 players in the hand, and Ah+Kh are used. If he had Qhigh flush, why min-raise and fold to a shove?
Kudos for good customer, who got the stacks in with middle 2 pairs. He didn't make it this time.

Jumped up a step in stakes, and oh boy the deck was cold for most of the day. Setup after setup in 3bet pots, set vs set versus those 80/60/20 guys and so on. The usual story. Nothing interesting in that, except it sets the narrative for the reason of this post.

This was literally the last hand of the session. All other tables were closed.

Spoiler

UTG opens (player with KQ64 lol), I call and button 3bets. Blinds both cold call, UTG calls and I call. The usual 5way pot. UTG was 50bb, BTN was 100bb.

Flop is nice. UTG decides to donk shove 33bb (in a 5way, 3bet pot). I call, and BTN shoves. Money goes in. BTN has been very active and real pain in my butt. Little redemption time.

Except the turn was 1 outer Queen. I thought that it just sums up the day perfectly. River was a justice, 1 outer for me. So it was 1 outer suckout, and 1 outer suckout of a suckout. JUSTICE!

It's almost Super Bowl time! 4 weeks from now, I rented a cabin for a week to be able to watch it without disturbance and then recover from it for few days. Will leave to the cabin at Friday with dogs, Super Bowl is at Sunday and then recovering until next Thursday. One week of sauna, cooking, Super Bowl and some poker grinding. Can't wait!

My summer bankroll challenge dried up. So here's a new, short one: Super Bowl funding.

Super Bowl is in 2,5 weeks, and I will go to cabin for a week with our dogs. Just me, dogs, good food, Super Bowl and some poker grinding. Goal is to make 300 in these 2,5 weeks to be used for Super Bowl food, and then continue for the rest of the week. Mostly playing just PLO5 and PLO10, some occasional PLO20 if the games are good.

And of course today's PLO Primetime coaching is counted towards it!

So the question is, do I eat really good stuff on my Super Bowl party or do I have to settle for microwave noodles?

I thought about playing at Unibet, and played short session there. Now I am not sure how comfortable I am. It felt like the site was trolling me all session long.

Here is back to back hands, couldn't help thinking about late super user scandals:

Spoiler

This is flop all-in, HU table. I bet flop, he raises and I shove. He calls my shove with complete air. I mean, you can't have more air hand on that board.

Next hand, money goes in on the flop.

There was also one VPIP 100 player, who called flop about 95% of times. Called pot bets on multiway pots with nothing but backdoors or bottom pair on staight boards etc. But kept hitting runner runner all session long. And won 400bb pot from me with bottom set versus my top set.

I know Unibet should be a trustworthy site, but after having session where every other hand makes you think "wtf is going on in here with these two players?" it's suspicious. Didn't have of those thoughts with any other player, but these two seemed to have perfect runouts every time they started to call with seemingly air hands on the flop.
