3: Should we have shove range with 70bb effectives? How would you play premium hands like TT+ or AQ+?

These are very good points! Thanks for a reply :f_thumbsup:
At the limits under 100$ people always Rejam their AQ here with the purpose to Isolate shortstack and keep a chance to get that "Bounty Envelope" for themselves. Now this opponent is playing much higher stakes and has better understanding overall, so he definitely knows that AQ gets more value as a call. He risks to get involved in multiway pot but it is not the end of the world either.
Since opponent has much stronger flatting range then I though, I would prefer KQ to flat on the Button and control the pot in Position. Your range of TT+ and AQ+ is very accurate for value 3betting to something like 15BB :f_eek:

PokerStars - 2000/4000 Ante 600 NL - Holdem - 2 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

SB: 17.46 BB
Hero (BB): 47.54 BB

2 players post ante of 0.15 BB, SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.8 BB) Hero has A♣ 4♣

SB calls 0.5 BB, Hero checks

Flop: (2.3 BB, 2 players) J♣ 9♠ 3♥
Hero checks, SB checks

Why not raise pre? Cause he has 17 BB and is trapping?

Hi Taavi,

Yes, trapping is one of the issue. It is a very good stack size to only limp your monster hands as you might still get all your money in by the River even in unraised pot.

But there are other factors for checking back A♣:4♣: here. As this opponent is very aggressive, I think he will barrel of 3 streets on :Ax: boards. I would more likely just isolate jam A4o than A4s, as having backdoor flushdraw on many flops gives me a good reason just to check/call, exactly like in this situation.

Good day grinders :f_thumbsup:

A roller coaster week and in the end I merely got a "meal" in profits :f_ugly:

A 4th place finish in 88$ Bounty tournament was the best result, but bricked most of others. There is a Live festival going on now in Lithuania and I took part in opening 350$ Bounty event. The start was great, hunted 3 heads and had 2nd stack at the table. But then Chipleader decided to get his A♥:Q♠: preflop against mine A♣:K♣: with 80BB effective - four :spade::spade::spade::spade: completing the board, my scalp was gone :f_confused:

There is Main event of 500€ taking place in this festival which I plan to attend tomorrow. A good warm-up for soon-coming FPS Paris :f_cool:

Tournaments didn't go too well last week, but a Silver Pass saved me on Sunday :f_cool: Now I can choose one of the Live events, possibly in March. There is Eureka Rozvadov, Estrella Madrid or Irish Open on the menu. Which do you think is the best value?

Tell me about an englishman endorsing something Irish, top 3:

  • 3. David Beckham and his Whiskey deal (Haig Club)
  • 2. Back then Prince Charles visiting Ireland for every other vacation
  • 1. Barry Carter and his obsession with the Irish Open

Oh, my apologies for any misunderstanding. It's a right serious matter, indeed. Let's all keep calm and carry on, with a strong brew in hand for support.

I don't get the Rozvadov hype, place is in the middle of nowhere (and I am Czech)
I'd pick Spain, it's warmer there

And here comes my goals for 2024 :f_cool: No dramatic changes, just some little shifts here and there. So let's start with my first, which is always the same:

1. Have 10 trips outside Lithuania, at least 1 country new to me
February - FPS Paris
March - Irish Open

I love travelling and it gives me extra motivation to run Sunday poker session for package hunting. Live poker is booming again and for me 1 trip a month is a healthy ratio. Our daughter is 3,5 years old which gets easier and easier to travel with whole family. So far Paris is my only organized trip next week, while I will probably use my other ticket for Irish Open. If Barry recommends it, you can't oppose :f_ugly:

2. Extend Trophy board or ship Major MTT online event
I was very close last year, hopefully this year I will take that last step. There are now considerations at GG if they should award some physical trophies for some prestigious tournament wins, which I highly support the idea :f_thumbsup: So far my biggest win of the year is this:

3. Reach Final Table in Sunday Million, GG Masters or any 1 Million Guaranteed event
Another reason to play Sunday events - it only takes one deep run in a prominent event to make you a great year. Silver in Global Millions was a highlight of my last year, would love to repeat it again :f_cool:

4. Study poker 360 hours
January - 56 hours

Good start in January, well above expected line of hours. I recently read an article here at PokerStrategy where it discussed how many hours should poker professionals spend on studying. Some suggest playing as much as 80% if you beat the game, some like David Peters play around 20%. It depends a lot on your skill level and the fields you are playing but I would happy if I hit a target of 40 hours a month.

5. Experience of 10 educational trails in Lithuania
I was very happy with the inclusion of this goal last year, so I will definitely try this again. Even though I enjoy travelling abroad, there are hidden gems closer to your home. Take a look at my first walk of the year at Silenai Hiking Trail:

6. Foster our Homestead
Winter is a silent time in our homestead, with nature taking a sleep. But not the Fauna as pictured below. Never thought that deers and foxes might be friends :f_ugly: Last year it was slow progress on the land, but I still enjoyed the process. If we somehow manage to pave the way and construct a small summer house, this goal would be completed for sure.

7. Reach 65k XPoints Total on French Duolingo

My first trip of the year goes to France, but I hope for some more. Monaco is probably my most desirable one with FPS Monte-Carlo set on late April. PokerStars have not released full FPS schedule yet, but if they do, I might be a frequent guest in France this year.

8. Help Top Kickers team avoid relegation and have 10 attacking returns

Last year our team finished 2nd in C division and got promoted to division B. Personally I did okay, 2 goals and 9 assists, only one assist short of milestone 10 :f_ugly: I would be happy to repeat those numbers but B division is much stronger and there is discussion among the team members if we should climb a division above or stay in the same one. Either way, its time to start charging the batteries.

9. Read 12 books
Tim Marshall - Prisoners of Geography

My first book of the year was a good read by Tim Marshall about why some wars are taking place and why some will occur in the future. Geography is the most common answer, sometimes because of the landscape, sometimes because of natural resources it has, or sometimes just because it has a window to the sea or ocean. It was published in year 2016 but correctly guessed the fights that take place now.

10. Complete 10 Bucket List activities
Its more like a reward system to myself as it is very easy to forget the most important thing - The Happiness of Life. There is a good saying that if you work too many hours, the only person to notice that in the end is your kid. Other good quote is about the Work being like a rubber ball. If you drop it, it bounces back. However, health, family, friends and integrity is like a glass - if you drop it, it collapses. That's why I believe those 10 activities not only bring happiness, but also are helpful for relationships. Here are some for examples:

Take part in Formula-1 weekend
Watch Live reputable football match in a stadium
Listen to a famous Concert
Listen to Live Opera
Attend a music Festival
Watch a performance in Theatre
Witness one of the new World Wonders
Set eyes on the Nature Wonder
Experience Sauna procedures
Organize outdoors event for friends

Some are easy to complete, some will require "homework", but I truly believe they will bring lots of excitement and good memories.
All the best! :f_drink:

Let's do one in Rozvadov forests? :f_biggrin:

I was going to weight pluses and minuses of all 3 stops to Rozvadov, Madrid and Dublin, but Sunday session changed the plans..

So now for sure I'm coming to Rozvadov and then straight to Madrid with another potential stop to Dublin. However, I'm leaning towards using the last Power Path in Monte Carlo, which is happening in April - it would fit perfectly in my time frame and also Monaco is one of the few European countries where I have not been yet. Anyway, I will make my decision after my trip to FPS Paris which is taking place from tomorrow. Haven't looked closely to the schedule yet, but I saw PokerStars are organizing many cool activities like Mulen Rouge show, so it should be a great week. Include Valentine's day with PSG - Real Sociedad UEFA Champions league match if that's not enough :f_cool:

Haven't looked at the travelling path, but Live pod looks entertaining :f_cool:

Meanwhile, just got back from FPS Paris. Had a deep run in the Main event, but eventually Q♥:Q♦: had to surrender to A♣:K♠: preflop. Still a nice way to start my first Live tournament of the Year!

Good day grinders :f_thumbsup:
Yes, it happened. My first losing week this year :f_ugly: No luck in most of the flips and probably was not my best performance overall. The only positivity is that I won one more Seat for a live PokerStars event. Originally destinated for Rozvadov, but as I already have a seat there, I can use it for other events.

Now a short summary about my trip in France :f_cool:
We travelled here with my wife and daughter, a perfect place for a Valentines day :f_love: Two days of sightseeing and off to the tables for FPS Main Event. I decided to play on day 1C which starts on Thursday noon with long blind levels. I guess day 1E on Friday noon could be softer, but I would only have one shot in that case. However, one shot was enough as I reached ITM with my first bullet, collecting almost average stack. The field was ok, lots of local French players at the beginning, but much stronger once the day was processing. From the very start, I was seated to this lady on my left:

But the biggest stars allocated to my company appeared in the Late day, close to the bubble phase. Daniel Smiljkovic and Thomas Santerne directly on my left with big stacks, so most of my plays were folds. Luckily at one point I was dealt A♥:A♦: and surprise surprise I was welcomed with a 3bet from Daniel :f_eek: I was wondering if I could just flat with my 20BB stack out of position, but in the end opted for a simple 4bet jam and a quick fold by opponent.

Day2 started immediately with a bad beat when my Q♣:Q♦: didn't hold against 7♠:7♦: preflop, but in couple of orbits I was already a chip leader at the table. I was cruising nicely, until one misplayed hand against other big stack didn't allow me to go even deeper. With 40BB effective stacks, I found T♣:T♠: on the CO. My open was met by a 3bet from BB, young Chinese player who was not very aggressive preflop and that was his first 3bet at least from the blinds. I opted for a call, which is standard play so far. The flop came low 6:s:4c:2♥: and I only called his 1/3 pot cbet. Looking now, I should just jam over this flop to protect my overpair, as there are a lot of overcards on the Turn. And that exactly what happened as I gave up once the King appeared. My opponent proudly showed 3♥: :f_ugly:
Down to 25BB I was no longer in control of the table and soon my Queens couldn't hold against AK preflop. The biggest lesson I learned here - Don't be afraid to risk all your stack if it is a correct play :ayfkm:
