New book finally released!

We wanted this one out in time for Xmas, but we didn't quite make it. Probably a good thing as it removed the stress of a rushed deadline.

I think this one is as good as anything we have ever written - I still think Endgame Poker Strategy: The ICM Book is our best one though.

Now it's out. These are my 2024 goals.

*Study 365 hands - My previous study the last 5 years has literally just been writing these books with Dara and taking which nuggets I can. Now I want to cultivate a habit of studying on my own, with no book as the motivator. I've already studied about 60 hands (I allowed myself a December head start). I wont be posting much about this goal because I have found when I put to much pressure on myself, it becomes about the number and not the study.
*Write 2 books - Dara and I have two ideas that excite us and I am so close to having written 10 books, we decided fuck it, lets try and write both this year. The topics are heads-up (at the end of MTTs) and multi-way pots.

I actually feel relieved to have 'only' lost €835 as it was a lot worse two days ago. Super bad downswing, not major coolers, just lost a lot of the 50/50s, 60/40s and 72/25s. Also bubbled a lot this week and a lot of my losses were satellite winners that didn't make the money. Having said all that, lots of errors from me too and if I had played better it would not have been as bad.

Book is going really well so far, its been our biggest seller (for its first week) of any of our last 5 books.

For the dog lovers

Pretty good week at the tables ended with an MTT win for basically my profit for the week. Also managed to turn a lot of satellite tickets into actual money, albeit breakeven.

What is happening to the dog? All our dogs are looking in this way when the had done something which was not allowed and they where in trouble.

Really good week - had a nice run coming 5th in the Fight Club on Unibet to start things off and after that I have had a really good week in satellites (won my first GGMasters seat and since then have won a bunch more for the T$). Obviously the bad thing about that is that I potentially could have a terrible run in my target events and it looks like I have had a mega losing month. I really should not log my satellite tickets as profit but I have been doing it forever so, hey ho.

Quite surprised at the size of the loss for the week, but in hindsight I did have a couple of bad days where I couldn't even get a bounty. I also managed a bunch of 9ths which probably made me think I did well (yay final table etc) but really I needed to ladder a few places to get me back in profit.

I have a bunch of tickets that need using this weekend including live poker today, so most likely the number comes down again this week.

I don't care though, I am in good spirits today. I have been using a personal trainer for 5 months and today hit a personal milestone. I got under 14st today (sorry for the British metrics) for the first time in probably 20 years. I started at 15st 3 and a few months before I started I was at 15st 6, so I have lost over 20lbs now. The biggest thing of all for me personally is that on my new diet (low sugar, high protein) I have stopped having acid reflux which was really becoming a pain. I can even have coffee again.

Next goal is 13st 7lbs which was the weight I was in my prime as a 23 year old.

Dog pic to celebrate

Had the week from hell at the tables including bricking all of the big events I had tickets for, thankfully one really good rungood day and an OK one today prevented it being a 1k losing week. Getting the loss down to -416 actually means I profited if you take out the big ticket events I satellites into but bricked, so I am declaring it a good week

Hey Barry, just wanted to stop by and say thanks for both "The Mental Game of Poker" books. Read both recently and adopted journalling techniques from them. My sessions improved, got a grasp of my different states and "A,B,C" games an generally more self-aware. Great stuff, waiting for your next book!

It's so cool to hear the book still holds up after all this time

Well, then I can repeat it: it is a great book. I'm not a very good player, but trying at the micro stakes and having fun. Only after reading this book (actually listening), I realized how much I was loosing because of tilt (all forms apply to me). Now I am rereading it and starting to recognize my behaviour better. The fact that it is saving me a lot of bb (money is not really an issue at microstakes) is motivating, but the main thing is that it brings me more fun at the tables.

Fuck me that is Shaun Deeb level weight loss

No big end goal to be honest. I am now 44 and I just want to be healthy, not having acid reflux any more is better than any weight number I can think of. I am a medium sized shirt now, so I don't really worry about the number as much. My personal trainer (proper meathead) now wants me to bulk up a little so I am just going to do what he says.

Spent the week bricking every thing I satellited into but rescued the week last night chopping a small Turbo on GG. I never deal in small MTTs but I was so tired I wanted to go to bed and I had all the chips. Took $400 when first prize was $540 with four left. Think that's a pretty fair variance reduction.

Big weekend ahead - Crufts! Pictures to follow

Looks like a Tibetan Terrier!? Always wonder if these type of dogs can actually see (us)... Due to all the hair in front of their eyes...
