Hi all, back with a slightly earlier than usual update this week. I'm not likely to be playing any more this evening as want to do some prep for an interview tomorrow (wish me luck).

So a good week all round, I started off with a few short but profitable sessions then looked at PS to see $100 in my TaF account! Spent a day or 2 wondering where that came from and then saw the announcement that I had won the BR Challenge blog raffle this month Yippee

A few more days of playing some short sessions (been leaving when I am finding my attention wandering, usually after 35 - 45 minutes), and here we are on Sunday and I am reporting $69 profit this week - looks like the RNG has been favouring me again which is a nice change. (Edit - just noticed I missed the important total, BR is now at $777.61)

PF is standard, I raise suited J9 in LP then SB and BB call.

I flop top 2pr and SB donks, BB calls and I decide to raise for value. I didn't really want to just call and decided that with the SB being only 55bb deep I would be happy to get it in if he shoves.

He indeed shoves as I hoped and then the BB surprises me by calling ?? What range does he just call with here? I thought maybe AJs or slow played QQ or KK trying to trap so I decided to shove and hopefully get it in ahead (praying the BB doesn't have 33 as I somewhat block 99 and JJ). BB insta calls and we see SB with an OESD and BB with a GS and a BDFD.

I have 59% equity which I have to be reasonably happy about when we are 3 ways AI. I'm a little concerned, as there are quite a few cards to avoid, until I turn a boat with another J and take down what is a 259bb pot ♠_drink:

Was the raise then shove the correct play? Should I have just called the shove and then bet any non straight turn card? I only have effectively the 4th nuts on the flop, should I have called the donk bet and then looked to get it in on a later street?

Interested in others viewpoints on the hand.

Away from poker the interview I had last Monday have called me back for a 2nd interview tomorrow which is good. They obviously saw something they liked and I've made the first cut! Now all I have to do is persuade them that I'm the perfect person to fill the role they are recruiting for.

My leg is healing well but there's still a fair bit of swelling there. Nothing that is stopping me from getting on with things so I went in to work for a few hours last Friday. Spent most of the time up a ladder doing repairs so it was time well spent. I'll be going in on 3 days this week for 3 or 4 hours each day to see how things go.

If your mind isnt set on poker, which is totally understanable, i would sujest to play lower stakes or even better just do some studying or mental work.

Well here we are, back again with another Sunday update.

Poker first - another positive week with a small profit of $1.02. BR is up to $778.63

Had a few nice hands and a few sessions where I felt I was playing well, (also a couple where I definitely played my 'D' game), judged quite a few situations correctly and in hands where I should have lost a lot I managed to lose the minimum, or close to. I've noticed that when I'm playing poorly I tend towards the passive and when I play better I get more aggressive. Might be something to do with the confidence that comes from playing well and feeling it. Played a few more hands this week, partly as an escape from the mental challenge of job hunting.

The hunt for a new job continues. The interview I had went very well until I was told that the one thing going against me was my age. At that point I pretty much knew I wasn't getting the job and sure enough it was reposted online 3 days later.

On a more positive note I have another interview coming up this week that I am hopeful for. I have the knowledge, skills and experience they want so it will probably come down to my age again.

Well, here I am again with another Sunday evening update. Slightly better this week with a profit of $74.74, giving me a current BR of $853.57 That's my biggest weekly gain in ...... in ...... well in a long time anyway.

Been feeling it this week, playing positively, waiting for good spots, getting a few well considered bluffs in, generally enjoying playing poker. I did manage to drop a BI today with AK vs AQ but overall I'm playing much better than recently. I'm raising more on flops and folding more to big bets when I'm on a draw, reminding myself that 'it's better to win a small pot than lose a big one'.

Been looking for advice re my current employment situation and not getting many answers. I'm not sure if I'm actually still employed as I've not been paid for 3 weeks. Nobody seems to know who actually owns the business as while the boss left a will, it's currently tied up awaiting an executor and his bank account is frozen. ACAS couldn't help, nor could the Redundancy Payment Service so I'm hoping to talk to a solicitor tomorrow.

Been struggling to stay on my feet for too long. I can manage about 1 mile walking and then I start to limp from pain in my ankle. Possibly doing too much too soon

That's about it for now, got a few more applications to get out tonight lol

Listening to your body is most important to know your limits! Next is small steps to push those limits!

It sounds weird all right, it's even more weird living it. Talked to a solicitor today who said 'I'll have to take some time to look at all this and call you back tomorrow' lol.

In theory if my employer stops paying me, and I subsequently find another job, I could potentially sue for 'constructive dismissal'. Issues then become who do I sue, as nobody currently knows who owns the business, and can I even sue somebody if they were unaware they owned the business. No point trying to sue the business as it has no money!

Went out shopping today, walked less than 250 meters around a supermarket and started to limp. Not great but seeing the nurse on Wed so will see what she has to say.

just finding that getting dealt premium hands I'm starting to think 'how much is it going to cost me this time' instead of 'how much can I make here'.

I understand how you feel. This happens to me too. I try to ignore him. What happens to me is the same with others. Play your best game and reduce session times. That's how you start motivated more often.

This is the key!

Reducing session times has helped me loads. Instead of pushing myself to put in an hour or more, (chasing volume for leader board points or SPs or just for 'volume'), and then letting tiredness or frustration play the last 15 or 20 mins of that session, I now play 30 mins ish. and only continue if I'm focused. If my attention is wandering at all I just quit the session and this is helping to give me positive results which in turn boosts my confidence. More confidence means better play which leads to better results. BR is up over $140 over the last 3 weeks (despite 1 week of only $1 profit) and on top of that I'm up $30 today in about 35 mins play this morning.

Knowing I'm up over the last few weeks before I start a session gives confidence because I know that if I get outdrawn or he hits his 2 outer on the river, its only 1 hand, rarely more than 1 BI, and I'm still up on the week so my play stays good and I am more likely to recoup that loss without worrying about it while I play.

Decided to play a few hands this evening after a long day. Had no expectations, even went into the session thinking that if I dropped $5 - $10 I wouldn't worry about it I just wanted to relax and play a few hands then this happens!

Thinking it was a good decision to play this evening. Picked up a few other $s also so well worth it LMAO

Congrats on trying to grind it up with the micros, it ain't easy, but it can done with hard work and a shed load of patience!

Looks like Sunday evening is back again so here I am with another update!

Been another great week BR wise with over $70 gain for the second week running (up $79.61 this week in total) leaving my BR at $933.18. To be fair $47 of that came from there being a Bad Beat Jackpot on one of my tables but it all counts. I had always thought that when one of them was won the cash was added to what the players had at the table. Not sure why I thought that, (it would make the stakes look strange with some players having >4000bb), but I now know that the cash is simply added to your account!

Feel like I have been playing reasonably well. I've made a few dodgy calls where I kind of knew I was behind but had to see what they had. I've dropped a couple of BI AIPF with AA vs KK, QQ vs AK and KK vs QQ. Each time I agreed to run it twice and they have hit on both boards Can't really complain since my BR is now over $900 for just the 2nd time since starting the BR Challenge, and more importantly up over $200 since my recent downswing, so all good.

Nothing happening on the job hunting front. Sending off applications but as expected not hearing anything back. I did have a telephone screening earlier this week, mainly because I phoned them, and they seemed to like what I had to say and the experience I had fit well with what they wanted but not heard anything at all back since.

Wow, Sunday evening seems to have come around quite quickly this week!

Interesting week that started off with me dropping about $70 over Monday and Tuesday, primarily due to variance, they just kept hitting again and again. A typical hand would have me 3 betting in LP and only the bb calling with the OR getting out of the way. I then flop TPTK IP and bet 3 streets only to find that the donk in the blinds called my 3 bet OOP with 10,4os and called F + T with bottom pair only to hit his 2nd pr on the R!

I got it in on a 9 high flop with JJ to be called by AQs with a FD and of course the Q hit on the R. I could go on all day with these type of hands but ..... I fought back, played reasonably well and by this evening I'm only -$15.65 (even lost a 350bb pot with QQ vs AQ and AK with the AQ hitting a flush on the R this evening which would have left me back in the green for the week!).

So finished the week with $917.53 for a loss of $15 but feeling positive about it as I stayed positive throughout the negative variance and came through with only a small loss.

No real news outside of Poker, still applying for jobs and being ignored :f_rolleyes:.

I have the boss's funeral to attend on Thursday so that will be a bit of a tough day, have to see how that goes.

I'm back so it must be Sunday evening!

A positive week to report on in many ways. Poker first and the BR is up to $948.76 which is >$31 up on the week I've felt good when playing and stayed positive despite variance popping up at the wrong time twice in 3 mins today. Dropped over 2BI this afternoon firstly AIPF with KK vs AKos who of course hit an A and then 3 mins later It was the reverse with me AIPF with AKs vs KK and of course I didn't hit! But still a good week.

I picked up C$26 from the ThanksGG flipout one day and managed to convert it all into real $ quite quickly which was nice. One hand that helped was AIPF with AA vs AA which of course was a split but turned C$10 into $10, (less rake of course).

Other good news is that I've been offered a job!!!!!! Yes I'll be going to work for a living again soon. Have to await DBS checks and references but should be no issues there so expecting to start in about a week

That's about it for me for now. I'm off to the TV to watch the F1 US GP.

Well, Sunday evening update and it's been a strange week ... It started off with some poker on Monday where I played some of the worst poker I've played in a long time. For some reason, having recognised this I managed to continue to play very poorly on Tuesday! Over the 2 days I somehow managed to lose over 10BI, about $115!! Played again on Friday and broke even playing better poker but still not my "A" game. today I played again and my "A" game was much in evidence with my picking up over $25 in about 30 mins. I only stopped the session when the battery in my mouse died, just after I had raised in LP with AJos. As I struggled to find another battery that had some charge I timed out on all my tables one by one. The last one was the AJos table where I was 3 bet by the BB and I couldn't get the mouse sorted before I was timed out there too. Probably for the best as he showed AA anyway but that was it for me and I left it for the day.

Strangely I still feel positive about it all despite being down over $60 on the week finishing on $867. I had been thinking last weekend about moving up to NL25. I more than have the BR for it and when I'm playing well I'm sure I could hold my own. I had been thinking about taking a few shots this week but after the debacle that was Monday I avoided the issue. I think I'll keep it in mind for when I'm playing well and feeling good about my play and maybe swop 4 NL10 tables for 2 x NL10 and 1 x NL25 and see how it goes. May take a little while to get used to different amounts in the pot but should be ok. I kind of wish that GG had the option to switch from displaying $s to displaying bb. I've found this helpful previously although it can be awkward when trying to get back to looking at the $s again.

On other issues I start a new job tomorrow. I'll be working in an office again for the first time in 7 years so that will take a bit of getting used to although whit winter approaching I'm sure I'll enjoy not being outside in the cold and wet all day lol. It's going to be strange actually going to work again for the first time in nearly 6 months!

Cheers for the congrats, and you might be right about the wired mouse. I've acquired a supply of rechargeable batteries and have a charger ready for use so hopefully I should be covered. It was annoying though, particularly as I was in the middle of a hand and having a winning session.

Ok, update time .. I've hardly played this week due to settling into the new job. Free time has evaporated and the only time I am finding to play is late in the evening which is not ideal. I am spending 8 hours a day staring at a screen at work and not really longing to do more of that when I get home.

So .. I managed 1,035 hands this week with a loss of about $10. BR stands at $857 now. Not feeling bad about that, I could have been ahead if variance had seen fit to allow it but it was not to be. I struggled to make $2.50 with quads and lost over $7 when villain called a raise pre IP with 44 then called a 2/3 pot bet on a KJ7r flop, 2/3 pot on the A turn and then hit his 4 for a set on the R to beat my AK. Think I was in shock after that one but what else did I want him to be calling me with? He got that pot but I'll get the next few off him when he plays like that.

Update time again!

Well I've barely played any poker this week so not much to discuss. Only 1 session on GG this morning, 351 hands over about 45 mins and showing a small profit of $9. BR now stands at $866.69. Certainly no major hands to report, everything was fairly straightforward. I think the biggest struggle was getting villain to put all their cash in the middle when I had the goods. That however is always a struggle. I managed it once this morning and we split the pot lol

I've found that with this new job I'm getting home later than I used to and am more mentally tired too. This has left me not feeling that I waws unlikely to play well so I stayed away. I had planned to paly on Saturday morning but I was asked to fill in for an ill colleague so that meant getting up at 04:00 which by the time I got home in the mid afternoon meant I was shattered so scratch those plans lol.

I should get on a shift pattern soon which will ese things somewhat so that will help. Have to see how things go.
