This must be very marginal +ev line oop if none imo even in solverland? King must hit bu 3b more then co rfi? In pos and deeper this would be a mandatory flop call oc.

Yeah it might be bit too wide for sure. But I think versus half pot we can't fold and versus pot it would be fold.

This was funny one versus reggy player yesterday.

I thought preflop this could probably 4bet but decided to just call this time. Solver would say:

So call and 4bet very close to each other.

Flop I didnt like too much but probably fine to call bottom two pair versus half pot. But I would concider this hit more of a weak than medium hit. So I would be folding on lot of turns to further aggression. Turn I was snap folding to barrel but goes checked.

On river it gets kinda interesting as I do block 89/K9 and have weak two pair. I thought well it seems like I have hard time to show up with weaker here and unblocking spade is good for bluffing. So went for half pot that I would use with nuts in this kind of spot as well. Some people like to even pot here but versus pot opponent can just call nuts and thats it. With this sizing I have way better chance to get action for nuts and bluff will stay cheaper.

Funky spot yesterday. Could perhaps cbet flop but I thought with kinda low fd and two opponent its fine to just x-f this. But when it went checked to river I thought to go for small stab.

These are always bit iffy feeling spots versus recreational who has lost some sizable pots to you earlier. Hand itself is super standard triple barrel but with this meta I would not have been that surprised to see some really sticky call. But yeah I think if we are not willing to pull triple barrel we should start checking flop or at latest turn. If barreling turn then no giving up river ever on blank!

Maybe should have checked this but I think I would prefer to have like AA97ds for it. I mean betting A high flop is never bad really but with these blockers we will get a LOT of folds.

Really nice tables today for first session but result wise breakeven. Was running really bad versus one reg and then lost AA64ss Vs 6644ss preflop all-in with 74% equity. Was versus maniac. Ironically opponent hit both sets with double pair.

Wild things can happen when you play versus aggro reggy player. I kinda like his river 3bet in this first hand. Though preflop call and river value bet are too loose. His bluff might look crazy but the thing is majority of players wont have AQ, AA or QQ in my shoes. So anything weaker than that is in world of pain as villain can obviously have like AQ or QQ. I didnt like it too much with AQ either but point is AA should squeeze preflop lot of time. But he can definitely still have some AA but also AQ for value.

I checked flop as this is pretty much worst AQ I can have on this flop.

This second one came bit later versus same fellow. Not big fan of this hand choise. I think you want to have better chance to improve into strong hand. Though I didnt like board run out that much but after seeing this huge bluff above and pot odds being pretty good on river... But yeah villain should be value betting straights on river.

Having 2 in this spot was awesome as I should almost never have one. CO open, I called, BB squeeze and we both call. BB cbet half pot, I shove and we get it in.

First session was smooth run with close to 500€ up. Second one total opposite with 800€ down. As usual lot of pots were lost to some absurd overplayed stuff preflop wise. Like one guy cold 4betting from CO with AJT9ss and my MP AA 3bet got screwed. Plus some set of 22 or 33 when I think flop is pretty good in lowish SPR spots. The usual craziness.

I did make at least one crazy play on 3bet pot with AQTTss on Q75. Went for small x-r with top pair blocker and nfd blocker and ended up shoving on K turn. Opponent had some Ax55ds combo though. No suckout with 6 outer. Probably should have just called flop also so that I can leverage nut flush blocker if needed in better fashion.

Decided to take just call on flop versus x-r and after getting good turn went for stacks. Close to 80% not holding though.

This one kinda interesting turn spot. I first thought to just pot but then thought my fe might be kinda low and I am unsure how many better hands can I really get to fold. I did look kinda similar board in BUvsCO with my lite subcription on trainer (cost 49$ for month). In it solver was checking this combo and betting if it had double fd or just nbdfd blocker with it. Was using half pot though.

River clear pot value. Not tough spot to find potential bluff combos. Opponent did use his time again fully but folded, meh.

Some spots from today.

Both CO and BU had played almost every hand in 2-3 orbits I had been on table. But BU had been more on passive side. Got into this spot and decided to just cold 4bet thinking BU can perhaps be 3betting good amount but its tough to say. Got into 3way allin versus QJ92ds from CO and AA94ts from BU. Had 30% equity pre. But yeah dont hate or like my play.

This one had annoying river. I open raised CO, cbet half pot flop, pot turn and river villain pot leads. Perhaps should fold but it was kinda nasty as any other river that helps villain I would have definitely folded.

In this EP open, CO call and decided to squeeze. Both of them called. This would be fine to just overcall bt dont mind either way. Flop cbet 1/3 and EP call. Turn decided to 1/3 again and then shoved this river. Could probably pot turn as well with SPR 1.3 or so. But yeah anyway kinda nice thing is that three clubs also make me boat in case he is drawing.

Promotions, a blessing or a curse?

I think lot of players tend to view promotions as positive thing which makes lot of sense. In practice you can view them as extra rakeback. For example Unibet sometimes have cash drops where whole table receives certain amount of euros instantly. Though those are set as absolute numbers and not relative to buyin. Which means for small stake player it might be 1+ buyin but on other hand in PLO50+ getting 4€ or 10€ is not much. It's still free money though and perhaps promo gets some recreationals joining. So clear positive.

Then there are some other promos where you win sort of slot tickets by playing X amount of hands/games per day. Usually limited to three per day per certain buyin levels and those are easy to reach. I have actually won 100€ main reward at least three times on this. Very small change though as requirement is to win 6-10 flips in row depending of ticket type. Clear positive again.

Then there are leaderboards (LB) which are based on rake amount or flops seen or overall aggression, etc. These can have pretty high rewards for top positions. You can also potentially argue that these measurements might change strategy of some players to ultimately benefit other players on the tables. E.g. I think in GG some players are minbetting more to ramp up points but this kind of strategy rarely make sense from game theory view.

Main issue though in LB is how it affect player base. Inevitably there are more regs that tend to play lot of tables. Especially true for those who aim for top positions. These players are not your worst opponents most of time but they are still mostly net negative for table EV. You can have edge over them but perhaps not enough to clearly beat rake and compared to recreational player they remove option to get good customer. On positive side you can more likely get action on wider time frame during a day.

This topic came to my mind when I compared table qualities after previous LB promo ended to what it was during it. Table selection was quite a big deal sometimes. Not super rare to see like 4 or even 5 same nick names in several tables in 6max table. Again some of these players are ok to have but compared to that soft recreational player... We are talking of whole different value ball park though.

So in case of Unibet I kinda like their approach of only sometimes having these LBs and they also change between formats. Maybe these are ultimately ok for most players kinda "rejuvenating" action but from EV€ point of view I do wonder... So how many stops to think what kind of cut these make to your win rate on the tables? E.g. let's say on average your win rate would be 8bb/100 post rake on PLO50. Now with LB games get tougher and it drops to 3bb/100. That accounts for 2.5€/100.

Now in case of Unibet these are weekly so let's say to get top position you need to play 3k hands per day for 21k per week. Just out of hat number here. Which means 210*2.5€ = 525€. Now main reward in Unibet for plo50-plo100 is 600€ if I remember right. So with those assumptions on hand amount and win rate loss it would be close to breakeven. But problem with low winrate is increased chance of getting into clearly losing run as well.

Anyway started to think this yesterday as I were surprised how soft the tables were. Like that absurd hand I posted on previous post. That was extra crazy but there was definitely quite a few moments where I wondered what the heck these people have used and if they are on extended weekend mode still.

So for original title question I would say promos are mainly blessing but when it comes to LBs I would be careful. There was in fact LB mode used in stars long ago (15+ years?) where reward was based on how much profit you made inside set amount of games in sng. It did felt kind of weird as now you give extra for those that already managed to run hot in short term. But I think it actually had certain logic as bigger volume did increase the chance of hot run but it was not clearly based on volume only. Btw those LBs were named after planets in our solar system if someone still remember.

Ooof some good run recently turned into bloodshed on very very soft tables. Perhaps I should have been "fortune teller" and quit session early when maniac went for limp-3bet-5bet with KKJ4ss WITH 200bb stack and crushed my AA.

Some of worst frustrations from yesterday:

Spoiler

EP open, CO call, I call KK on BU and SB call. Flop EP cbets, CO raise, I 3bet, EP shoves, CO folds and I get it in. Not maybe horrendous play from EP on flop. But to make this play good he really needs to get CO to join as well which might not happen that often with 200bb effectives. Even if it does some of his outs are eliminated then very likely. Well I did have close to 70% but not holding.

Spoiler

CO decides to 3bet-call very crappy KK with 176bb stacks. I pot-call flop with SPR below 2. After this hand this quy seemed to play really nitty so no idea what brain fart this was...

Spoiler

This BB villain has been doing way too wide 3betting and this was one of those cases. I open and call 3bet from BU. Post went for three street calls. Not loving river but there was only bit over half pot behind.

Spoiler

Kinda same story here as above. 3bet pot where I have no way to fold before river. On river there was like SPR 0.4 or so.

Spoiler

CO open, I decided to 3bet but call would be fine as well. BB cold calls (absurdly wide) and CO call. Flop BB leads big on SPR 3 and I decided to just shove.

Spoiler

This hand snapped my back for this session and decided to stop. MP open, CO 3bet, I 4bet and CO shoves.

Spoiler

Bit marginal open from me but ok. SB is missing here. BU goes for too wide 3bet, cbets and get it in on flop. I had close to 80% equity but when run is bad...

Spoiler

This was the maniac going for limp-3bet-5bet I mentioned earlier. WP sir, WP...

Sure there was couple too wide preflop defend from GTO view that were bad enough to be bad in reality as well. Even if I assume to have some edge on opponents. But mostly it was once again these crazy wide preflop plays that just got rewarded. Like that 5th hand cold calling very mediocre ds hand oop2 position. GTO wise that call is 1.76bb worse than folding... So -176bb/100 or -276bb/100 instead of just -100bb/100 of folding.
