As usual, we did our belated New Year's fireworks at 7 PM on New Year's Day, in honor of my late father. And as usual, I will use this opportunity to post about my goals, and what else might be in store for the new year.
Let's face it, poker was kind of a dud last year, like many other things. So much so that I don't even want to formulate any profit-related goals, I just want to get back on track. Also, it's time to finally start streaming on Twitch. I hope I will get to it within the next few weeks already, but I have had a bad history with postponing it, I know.
When it comes to sports, I of course want to secure yet another Gold in the Trollympics, ideally another "clean" one, where I get Gold in all four subcategories too. But not only that... I would also like to become not just a participant, but also an examiner. I will be on the lookout for new courses this year, which largely lies beyond my control. Apart from taking some weight off the shoulders of our current examiners, it would also mean that it would become quite feasible for Primrose to join in - we could simply do it as a little challenge during our summer meetups, at our own pace. 
I'm generally happy with my current strength workout routine, but not anymore with my endurance. I am already taking some small steps to correct that, which is good, because I plan another huge challenge this summer, possibly the biggest sporting challenge for me yet, which will be revealed when everything is ready - probably in around a month or two.
With those projects, it may be unavoidable to make a couple of changes to my current schedule. This could mean dropping an activity or two, which is not always easy for me, because I tend to feel committed, especially when it is tied to a club membership that would need to be cancelled. I already have a vague idea about what needs to be dropped and what can stay, but it will depend on my exact plans.
One such activity that may need to be reviewed is my side job as a lifeguard in summer. It brought in some good cash last year, but I was not always happy with how often people kept begging me to help out on short notice. While I wouldn't want to drop this side gig entirely, this is an issue which at least needs to be discussed. But this is another matter for the warmer seasons.
In short, let's get back on track in poker, get back on the literal jogging track, keep kicking butt in general... and also know when to fold 'em.
Fun-players, gutshots and suck-outs, oh my! 
As I´m still on vacation, I decided to focus a bit more on tournament poker and play some MTTs and freerolls. In the "Free to play" you can win tickets for the Big Quarter, so Junior, Baby Peach and I are of course keen on qualifying again! But this time, our luck seems to have been used up. And obviously, during the holidays, the tables are full of call-happy, hyper-aggro and of course no-fold-button-players. Guess, Morton Koopa, Roy Koopa and Boom Boom want to play poker, too? :coolface::f_ugly::f_ugly::f_ugly:
We got suck-out after suck-out!! :rage::rage::rage: Morton, Roy and Boom Boom hitting their gut-shots, getting their runner-runner-str8 and runner-runner-flushes, while we barely hit a flop. Oh man, glad that THIS did not happen in CG!! 
We just played the "Free to play" freerolls and some 0,22 $ and 0,33 $ PLO- or PLO8-MTTs. At least it´s cheap ..... 
Deal with it!
Well, another session with some massive trolling going on.... tons of coolers and lucky gamblers. Bowser jr. (the doll) in fact, fell over while we were playing So you can guess how our session was. Baby Peach, again, was card-dead in PLO8, one cool scoop with a set of kings on a high-only board and that was it. The rest was folding junk hands and then running with the second nut-full into the nut-full (with limped acies!). But Junior fought bravely and at least could get us a satty ticket until he busted with a full house vs quads. :wtf::f_ugly:
So, I told Bowser jr. that we gotta deal with this poop, if we wanna play poker, because it´s part of the game. 
Baby Peach is not happy either but she, too, gotta deal with it. We barely lost any money, cause we were mostly playing freerolls anyway ....

As for the AI haters - the donkey is obviously playing Badugi and the 2 thingies on the table are coasters.
Well, Nsavov, first I prompted GPT with "Make a picture of ROY KOOPA playing poker aggressively". Then GPT informed me that it cannot use Roy Koopa or any Koopa due to copy-rights and then I just wrote: "Ok, then make a pic of an aggressive donkey playing poker".

And as for using AI: It depends how you use it. If one completely relies on AI, that´s stupid. But if you use AI wisely, as a helpful tool, then it´s perfectly fine. I used Chat GPT for my this year´s gardening-plan. Instead of looking up every time on several websites, I just prompted AI: "Which vegetables can be planted next to brussel sprouts AND celery?" or "Can I plant chard on the same bed as brussel sprouts?"
Before AI, I used to look up on several websites which plants can be on the same bed together and which ones absolutely not. Now everything goes quicker and easier with AI. Instead of looking up here and there and everywhere, I just prompt AI and I know within seconds that I cannot plant tomatoes and corn on the same bed (for example) or that I can plant pastinake together with beans.
The whole gardening-plan, though, I do myself. But AI is a very welcome helping-tool! :f_biggrin::f_thumbsup: AI is help, but it doesn´t do the (critical) thinking for you. It´s just a tool.
It´s like with my cleaning-robot "Sonny" (Roomba combo 105, iRobot). "Sonny" cleans the floor, but still: The furnitures and other stuff I have to clean myself. And I have to decide, when which room should be cleaned, so I have to program "Sonny" accordingly. "Sonny" cannot make the decisions for me.
And of course you can use AI just for fun!

That's new - it had no qualms about copyrighted Nintendo characters before, as seen in some of our previous posts.I remain very skeptical of AI, but I sometimes wonder if there are some areas where I should consider using it, especially since I have the tendency to drown myself in tedious projects.

As you say, Harrier: AI can be very useful in some areas, if you use it wisely! I personally use it for the gardening plan, for recipes or for some fitness-questions, when I don´t feel like searching half of the internet. I wouldn´t use it for more complex stuff (like my work), when I tried it professionally, I found that at least 30 % of the answers were hallucinations or just very superficial.
But whenever you have a simple question like "Which washing powder should I use for sportswear?" or "How should I clean sports-shoes?" or "How should I prepare Seitan?" then it can be very helpful. It can also be an inspiration whenever you don´t know what to cook.

The problem with donkeys not knowing the rules in Badugi is that you don't usually see it until after showdown - though there are some indicators. If I see some completely unknown name near the end of the late reg period with a starting stack who plays really aggressively right from the start, I smell some BS.
If they survive a showdown and the cat is out of the bag, then everyone pounces, and it's another challenge to get heads-up with them.
For one particularly epic fail, in one of my earlier tournaments I once lost an all-in pot against one of those people who was revealed to not know the rules, when I did manage to get heads-up with him while holding a very good 3-card hand. I didn't improve and the guy stood pat on like K♣:Q♦:J♥:T♠:, thinking it's a big straight. I had him covered, but my exit followed soon afterwards, against a legitimate player.

Maybe it's a bad strategy to play such crappy badugis but the good part in PL is that people know you have a badugi and have to guess what the hell it is while you pot them into oblivion.
By not knowing the rules I mean people that draw 2 to get a set of Queens. Those are pretty easy to spot playing low amount of tables.
I remember the first hand of SCOOP $11 NL 2-7, the biggest grinder of NL 2-7 on sharkscope overbet jammed like 10x pot with K high against a fish he probably knew and got called by something stupid like QQKJ9

I know the kinds of players you mean. In my experience, they more commonly draw to what they believe is a "flush", which is often harder to spot through discards alone. The player with the KQJT rainbow was one of them, which is why I'm quite sure that he wasn't even aware of holding a Badugi in that spot - he clearly thought it was a straight, and by some freak accident, it happened to be one of the very few possible versions of it that also qualified as a genuine Badugi.
Drawing two to a pair can indeed be a big giveaway if it's accompanied by big bets, but still, you don't know until you had to at least call one of those bets before the draw, so it could be a legitimate player until then.
As for actual high Badugis, not that KQJT fluke, my strategy is still to "play them fast, or don't play them at all", which depends on the situation. They are okay for a heads-up spot.
In general, though, I try not to vary my betsizing too much between all-in hands and vulnerable bet/fold Badugis. Some people seem to bet considerably bigger with their K-Badugis, which is fine if they get away with it, but I noticed that big bets early on in PL Badugi are often a sign of vulnerability, not strength, and adjusted my play accordingly.
