WTF-data or: just being a statistician

Expectation:
When you happily finish your seminar in statistics (which I did last December) and are already eager to take your first orders:

Reality:
When you get your REAL orders.

Chaotic reports are easy: Just enter random numbers for all criteria.
Or: Arrange the data so that it form a QR code that points to the conclusion

More focus on FOUR cards!

I have no idea why we haven´t tried out PLO2 on 888 yet. But today we finally did! Better late than never, huh? :f_ugly: As you guys know, on PartyPoker PLO-traffic is quite poor, you gotta be lucky to get to a table, either the tables are completely full, or there´s no action. That´s why, today, we tested the water on 888 in PLO! And there was traffic! Very cool, so, we can finally bring a bit more focus on PLO! 888 is full of fun-players and gamblers, so we got nothing else to do than wait patiently for a decent hand and value bet (if we hit the flop hard). There are much more fun-players in PLO than in Holdem, but well, we gotta be careful, because more fun-players means also: more "lucky wonder" turns and rivers, as they play too many hands and many of them get it in bad. Today, we got it in good once with the nut-str8-draw, backdoor nutflush draw and two overcards (dsAcies) - but that one was the only decent hand in this session. The rest went card-dead and unfortunately once with a bad river for our top two pair - so, break-evenish short session today, but we´ll return to the PLO-tables on 888 for sure!

Not much time this week...

Gardening season is starting! And as you guys know: We are self-sufficient with our own vegetable garden. Well, we just rent the garden, but there we grow our own veggies and fruits. I worked the soil today, killed all the weed and sowed spinach and radishes. Then it was time for my voloteer service at our garden community. I separated sweet peppers and chilis - wow, how suitable is THAT? :f_wink: Perfect for me, as I grow my own super hot chilis and spicy peppers.

Poker downswings can be quite hard on the psyche, they´re pretty "soul-crushing", so the peace and quiet in the garden, working the soil, just focusing on the plants, on the next harvest and on my garden-plans was just so relaxing! Outdoor season has started and besides gardening, I have decided to give jogging a second chance. But it will be a very easy and relaxed jogging due to my achillodynia. I found very good buffering running shoes online, which may enable me to do a little careful running despite damaged achilles tendons.

During the past 2 years I competed a LOT in tennis! I had A LOT of tennis! Both, tennis and poker, are overstimulating the nervous system!! What I am missing is something relaxing, which I can do outside, just enjoying nature. As mentioned: Running has always been my weak sports, but with achillodynia I have a REALLY GOOD excuse why I suck at it and why I am so slow! :f_biggrin::f_ugly: I have no ambitions, no intentions to race, it´s just for fun, just to relax and to train my endurance for the tennis court. :f_wink:

Another kind of "winning"

Last week, when I had a really really bad cold, I, unfortunately could not afford to just lie in bed and recover: I had to work, because last Friday there was an important deadline. So, I wrote an article and made statistics with quite a bad sniffles! It took me longer than usual, because you can guess that my concentration was not the best. :f_ugly:

After working through the chaotic statistics (see above "being a statistician"), I somehow managed to write the corresponding article for a customer. As this person is a really good customer (and the job is well paid), I gave the best I had. But with the sniffles? How good can my work be? Normally, I´m confident, but not with a bad cold! :f_ugly:

This week I found out that this customer is very happy with my work! Phew! :f_biggrin::profit: Even with a bad cold I could do some "magic" and that´s important - not a poker downswing.

I started this challenge just for fun! As a hobby! Because: Why not? :f_biggrin: I don´t have to do this - unlike my last week´s work :f_biggrin: I don´t have to do this to myself, but I want! During my forced poker break I remembered that I don´t have to grind up from 0 € to 1.000 € within two years or so! I started with 0 € in 2024 and had a lot of fun building a BR from scratch. I don´t have to win every week! I don´t have to grind 10 K hands every week! I can take it easy if I want to. But nevertheless, a downswing gets to you, no matter how well you know the statistics!

But it´s a hobby! I can play freerolls if I like! I can try a new variant, if I like, as I´m back on Pokerstars. There is a huge choice of different games, so why not? I´m also on 888 and there is traffic on PLO2! So why not? Why not taking some time to learn PLO?

To be honest: During my common cold, I was quite relieved that I had an "excuse" not to play poker. I was also a bit relieved that I had a VERY good reason not to play tennis. I think I just needed some quiet time. This is the main reason for me to re-start running. Because it gives me some quiet time in nature! Reality of BR building hits me like a truck: It´s actually hard work! VERY hard work, especially mentally! And therefore, I need some quiet time in between the sessions! It´s mandatory!

Why not quality before quantity? Especially when the cards just don´t wanna go your way! :f_biggrin: It is no shame to play smaller sessions (one hour f.e.), but with maximum quality! That´s what I´m going to do! At the moment I´m sooooo fed up with Holdem! I´m soooo fed up with MTTs! Why not trying something new? Why not discovering new ways, new variants, new statistics?! I don´t have to complete this BR challenge within two months or six months, right? I have time ....

Patience is the key to get "da pot"!

Our today´s session with FOUR cards on Party and 888 went suprisingly well! :f_o: Goal was one hour best quality poker, but we managed to play more, almost 2 hours! :f_o: During lunch-break I went for a careful "run" (well, a mix of running and walking). The weather is beautiful here and running/walking, going into nature was exactly what my soul needed to cool down a bit. :f_love: So, it was no surprise that I was cool and patient at the tables, despite being mostly card-dead. :f_biggrin: But being patient paid today:

This was one of our few value hands (we had 3 altogether) and it shows that it´s worth waiting patiently for a solid hand and then playing it strong - at least on PLO2 patience is key! It was worth waiting!

But to be honest: It was not exactly my A-poker. Was playing a bit scared and nitty. :ayfkm:

Shaky...... :rage:

Oh dear!:rage: I wouldn´t say that this is my A-poker! It´s my "safety-first"-poker or so. :f_ugly: Things look a bit more normal, we´re slowly creeping out of the darkness of variance but we´re somehow "not fully recovered yet" (or so). No chance to get a PLO2-table on Party, so we went to 888 where we could enjoy picking up FOUR cards. :f_biggrin:

On Party we played a little NL2 instead, but ...meh...shaky, carefully, scared, nitty. :f_ugly: Glad that this is enough at those limits and Villains playing even WAY worse than us. :f_biggrin::f_ugly: We even met the "evil black knight" again from whom we took some chips. In PLO we waited just patiently until our time came and we could take a stack with top set AAA!

In PLO2 the players are even worse than in NL2, so we didn´t have to bother but could just lean back and wait patiently until we found a rock-solid hand to value bet. :f_thumbsup:

And so: Today we celebrate our first winning session after five or six weeks of statistic torture!! 1 stack up!

Carefully restarting the grind .....

but only ONE PLO2 table! :f_cry: Okay, better than nothing. No change to get a PLO table on Party, at least there was one on 888. We were card-dead but at least we got the chance to pick up FOUR cards. The rest had to go with just two cards and it went a LOT better! Still a bit careful, still a bit shaky, but thinking about how to impove our game, inspired by GTO wizard. Of course GTO makes not much sense with fun-players but it´s a great back-up and a great inspiration. The focus lies of course heavily on value betting.

Here´s a very beautiful hand (even though it got not paid):

And the last hand of today got a stack:

Villain jammed all in on flop. We say: Thank you!

Winning again ...

...but cannot get into the forum when using Google Chrome, this "security check" crashes, the screen freezes. Okay, I´m using now Mozilla Firefox. :f_ugly: We can report a very nice CG session yesterday on PartyPoker and 888. Couldn´t play too much PLO yesterday, due to low traffic on both sites but NL2 brought us some nice winning, so that´s perfectly fine. The downie seems to be over for now and I´m happy to tell you guys, that we mentally mastered it. It is the first time that I kept going and successfully made it through a downswing.

It´s over for now, but to be honest: It was quite a mental challenge!:rage::rage:

I'm using Firefox as my primary browser, and it works, but with the Cloudflare annoyance.
If you'd rather use Chrome, try disabling all the extensions and try PokerStrategy.com again.
If that doesn't work, try clearing your cache then try again.

Strangely, on my computer, Chrome (which has only 2 extensions enabled). Does not show the cloudflare security check.

Edit: The Brave Browser requires me to "check the box" every time I go to PokerStrategy.com for the first time after opening the browser — and frequently thereafter.
The Edge browser did not require a security check at all, even though this was the first time I ever used it to access PokerStrategy.com

I love Edge suddenly as Chrome doesnt have Godot engine in its search results 😆👍

Seriously, though, is the Cloudflare security check here to stay, or is it only temporary? I haven't yet had any problems which made the site inaccessible or unusable (I'm also using Firefox), but I find it quite annoying too, and I would love to see another solution.

I´m with Harrier! Would love to see another solution, too. It´s really annoying, to be honest!

Vacation: No CG this week...

...but tournament poker! The Free to play freerolls on PartyPoker offer attractive prizes! You can win satty tickets for the Sunday Carnival and that´s what we´re up to! We already got a 3.30 $ satty ticket, the plan is to collect as many Sunday Carnival satty tickets as possible. Meanwhile, our "Bankroll Queen" Wendy O´Koopa cashed in a freeroll on 888 and got us around 23 €, which is a great BR-boost after the downswing!

Besides, we still got plenty of freeroll tickets to use up on 888 and we got time, as we´re on vacation. A perfect opportunity to take it very easy and light with freerolls. :f_biggrin::f_love:
