When I opened my account here I've tried both Elephant and PT and was planning with my strategy point to get Elephant, too bad I've had to take a break, all the trials have expired and now I'm left with no tracker and no cash to get one. Do you happen to know anything, maybe some open source project, that deal with the most basic functions? I mainly need something that could counts my hand and maybe give me some EV, then in the future I'll move to Elephant as i collect enough points.

With elephant even if the trial is over you get to use their basic function and think hand analysis is still there.
I got Pokertracker for free, from their website open a new account with Ocean (on iPN, already had Titan) then deposit $50 and work off 500 (or 600?) points.

Where the first 3 works fine as they have full support, the other are uncertain and working on implementation.
Personally I'll suggest you make good use of the trial periods and then you decide which one to buy, a good DB with HUD is not an expense, it's an investment.
I'll be withdrawing myself from my BR the next week in order to acquire a micro-limit HEM licence.
can someone please give me a step by step instruction on how to use that free tracker http://fpdb.sourceforge.net/ because i can't get it to work...i am on pokerstars by the way...
