Just for the sake of completeness...

You can raise the flop whenever your equity is greater than the average equity.

So, for example, with the nut flush draw your equity is ~35%.

The average equity = 100/number of players in the hand.

So:

2 handed average equity = 50%

3 handed average equity = 33.3%

4 handed average equity = 25%, etc.

In this example we are 5 handed in a pot that got capped pre flop and the pre flop aggressors have both entered the pot. A raise is therefore pretty safe as you will likely have at least 2 other players call the raise. As 35% > 33.3% you can raise.

BTW, I suspect the river 3 bet is overplayed, you are in a four handed pot and I would guess you are behind too many hands to have the equity for a 3 bet here (ie TT, JTs, 44, 22).

I play your hand differently. 1st I play cap or fold PF. There is so much dead money with these limpers that I want to play my hand HU or 3way, but no more.

On the flop, there are 5 players. I quickly donk this spot hoping to get called by many players. There are just too many callers.

As played, the turn is one of the worst card you can pick: I mean TPTK is a 4-way capped pot is just... a loosing hand.
The river is a quite good card but... you are still losing against a flopped set. I would have played more precausiously this river.

However, sick hand...

I'm super bored of the game atm. No motvation to read articles, no motivation to play / focus.

The strange thing is that I just had a 10-day poker break.

Today I played 2 NLHU SNG's for 5$ and 10$. Lost the former one, won the latter. Got bored quickly.

It may be related to this I dunno...

I accept the variance and I don't care much about the swings lately. But the fun is out of the game for me at the moment.

I need to find a way to motivate myself or just find something that catches my interest.

I lied. I do care about the swings.

I intended to play a lot of hands today, but changed my mind after losing 64BB in 199 hands.

I think you'll find iPoker $.10/$.20 offers a slightly easier game.. don't go to that $.25/$.50 there though.. it's a zoo (and not in a good way).

And I feel ya on your insta end session, I too hate having to 86 sessions so quickly because my ego can't take this sort of beating. I prefer my beatings to be much slower and drawn out...

Very depressing month pokerwise. It may be because of this:

Not much to say except for running like shit again. If december does not end on a positive note I'm going to think about doing something else with this spare time. But I like the game too much to quit poker altogether.

I tried NL 6max and it was f*cking boring. Tried PLO and the variance isn't less so there's no use in switching to that is there?

Maybe NLHU is a possibility cause HU is often lots of action.

Surely I could think of better ways to spend my time.
The only thing keeping me playing is the FTP end-of-year bonus.
When that's in the bag... well I don't know let's see.

I have a solution. Drink too much alcohol at Christmas (or tomorrow.. no need to be choosey) and hope the excess poison blinds you to the memory of the Ginosaji. Problem is, of course, the Ginosaji doesn't stop.

If you don't understand the reference, put it down to too much alcohol yesterday on my part.

Dropped even deeper today. So that's it, I'm gone for some time.

I'll probably be back around christmas. I took a few days off then and I still need to get ironman bronze status. It would be rather dumb to miss that bonus.

A few days no poker was nice.

I played good today. I only lost 17$, which feels surprisingly good after all those -40BB days.

Anyway here's this month's progress:

I got ironman silver this month. So now that's done, I'm ending the poker year right here, right now.

I started the year with around 200$ and this number has now one extra zero at the end. So that's nice. I went from 0.25/0.50 to 2/4. I'm happy with that, although in the beginning of 2009 I had secretly hoped to have started playing 3/6 by now. It looks like I'm pretty far away from reaching that goal now. But who knows, perhaps it's just an innocent 400BB swing and a huge heater is just around the corner!

The poker goals for 2010 are:
- don't quit poker (yet)
- crush 2/4 and 3/6

Here are some graphs to sum it all up. Suggestions concerning stats are of course welcome.

$2/$4 STATS BY NUMBER OF PLAYERS

Sometimes during play I lose all sense of reality. Are they really hitting every time on the flop when they donk it? The one in five times I decide to call it down they always do.

It's incredible how this game can fuck up your mind. You never know if you're playing well or not. Not even after 50k hands. Seriously how fucking long is that? I don't know any game in the world where you put in days of play and not even get a vague idea of how good you are performing.

I seemed like a better player a year ago. Well maybe not... but I actually was winning back then. This game is so crazy sometimes that I think I suck at poker in every aspect.

It's hard to fold the flop for the 5th time in a row when I steal from the BTN and this guy is 3betting me from the BB. No worries: I'm on the BTN so I have position. But after the flop comes there are several possibilities:

- you steal with T9s of hearts and the flop comes AKT with 3 spades
lesson learned: they always got the higher pair that you don't have. In the rare cases they don't, they'll hit the backdoor flush on the river.

- you steal with 78s and the flop comes 256
lesson learned: draw passively cause you aren't going to hit anyway. Prepare to be called down by K7o

- you steal with JJ. BB 3bets and you cap. The flop comes AQ5.
lesson learned: checkbehind flop, fold turn.

bonus lesson: a donk on the flop means you will lose the hand.

Today I'm experiencing one of those shitty days.
Summary of the month: upswing to 760$ and thought I'd finally get to run good for a while. Then lost all of it in the last 2 days.

I'm still trying to figure out if these sudden changes in my feelings are good in any way or not. Perhaps after a while I'll manage to deal with it and it will help me in my social life.

Luckily for me these downswings don't affect the rest of my life in any way. The day that would happen, I'd quit poker immediately.
