I was just reading back through my blog, something I should probably do more often, and after a year I realized I haven't really learned as much as I thought I had.
My first post indicated that the blog's beginning was motivated by a downswing. This was a year ago and I don't believe I have improved psychologically when it comes to downswings. While the last one was long and horrible, I always seem to think that each one is the worst one yet.
While it may be true that the most recent losing streak was the worst one in my memory, there is always worse and there will always be more lurking. Everywhere I read seems to say that this is one of the toughest aspects of poker for countless reasons. But the rewards for mastering it are great. Tilt is the cause of major BR damage and should be placed as a priority for improvement.
Many things I have always understood, but only on the surface level. For example:
"Downswings happen." I knew this, but yet when it did, it was still unbearable.
"You can't win every hand." I knew this, but when I lost, it still drove me crazy
etc,etc
Another one is that one should be process oriented and not outcome oriented. Looking back at the parts of my blog where I updated regularly, I realized that the updates were totally dedicated to results: Bankroll graph, bankroll size, win rate, hand results (most losing and most winning hands).
I thought this approach would be the most entertaining to read and I'm not saying it was bad, but it shows a good reflection of truly being results oriented and not even realizing it - even when I knew I shouldn't be!
Also, I was winning a lot when I regularly updated, so I thought that if I got back to updating regularly, I would win. I realized it was the opposite. When I win, I update regularly. Meaning only updates with Bankroll Size + Bankroll Progress + Winrate + Hand Results = EGO.

I'm not totally criticizing this approach to a blog, because it is fun and entertaining. But it was an interesting reflection that I didn't see before. I have at least gained a deeper understanding of process vs outcome.
I noticed in a TB video, and a couple others, that somewhere there is a "tilt blocker" for the HUD. It is mainly just a rectangle that blocks the view of your chip stack total at the table. I'm not sure where to get it, but I started using the HEM HUD to do this, and it has helped.
That being said, I would also like to thank PS.com for it's wealth of resources, which I don't do often enough. Currently and specifically, for the quizzes and to Waiboy for maintaining a thread that consolidates all of them.
I am now going to focus specifically on the quizzes and the corresponding articles and apply them to my hand history. I don't know why I didn't do this before, as I used practice quizzes as a successful study aid in many of my college courses.
Being that I scored 14 out of 20 on the Silver quiz, this provided me with both a starting point and a blow to the previously mentioned ego. I will try to figure out how to update accordingly and begin a section of the blog that is diffcult to find on many sites and in many books: Session reviews.
Many say that it should be done, but do not go into depth of review methods, so hopefully I can present value for others as well. Not necessarily from presenting an awesome method (I have no awesome method), but from tracking the efforts.
While I have tendencies toward long-windedness, I may have just outdone myself.
