No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (5 handed)
saw flop

MP ($100)
Gerv (Button) ($106)
SB ($122.67)

BB ($130.36)
UTG ($37.19)

Preflop: Gerv is Button with 3♠, A♣
2 folds, Gerv bets $2.50, SB raises $8, 1 fold, Gerv raises $16.50 (so to 19$), SB calls $10.50

Flop: ($39) 9♠, 7♥, 2♠ (2 players)
SB checks, Gerv bets $17,

The read I got on this guy was that he popped frequently against me and other aggro stealers.

So the first thing when seeing this hand is the 4bet size of mine. it is only 19% of my ES which I think is a little to small starting off with my 2.5bb stealraise and his 8.5bb pop.

Was $22-23 a better size?

So when he calls my 4bet and such a board comes, cBetting there is a waste of money right? So check behind flop and therefore giving up is then the best play?

I mean I expect no one to call a 4bet without a plan

Yes i 4bet to 20$. Always around 2.5 x of his 3bet size. I think his mostly likely holding are pps, 99 TT JJ maybe AQ. I don´t think hes folding the pps to one barrel so i´d cb the flop.

SB seems fishy so he could def calling with JJ,TT,99, AK,AQ, - pp never fold here, overcards why he should fold if he is weak and his fold to cbet is low, so i dont see cbet here. 19-20$ is of course enough but somebody has tendency to call in his mind "low" 4bets.

Hello,

Then I would likely tighten up against such a raiser, A3 ain't in my range for a steal as he raises us I would just likely give up and not put ourself into dumb situations. On flop I would likely also check behind, even if he has there a hand he will likely Check/Raise us with some kind of PP.

Best regards,
Rensu

I like it very much, nh!

The small 4bet is perfect, if he calls OOP I'm very happy because he usually has no monster so I'd cbet almost any flop.
But he's usually folding often enough to make the 4bet +EV in itself.

The betsizing on the flop is pretty nice, he still can't do anything about it, if he check/calls you still have the option of reevaluating on the turn.
I might make it $19 on the flop but that doesn't make much of a difference.
The cbet is nice because I think there are a lot of people sitting there with AQ, AJ, maybe sometimes even AK who are scared of getting it in but don't want to be the guys getting bluffed, so since they don't know better they call the 4bet getting 3:1.
On a flop like this they face a cbet and expect you to have AA or KK (you 4bet preflop) so they just c/f.

I think they even sometimes talk themselves into folding hands like TT (just sometimes).

The site I am playing on tends to call such small 4bets with as low as J:hT:h , that said I think I have to use 2 different scenario's: The obvious one and the adjusted to the metagame.

That said, i was wondering if the cBet is still like a good move if you know their range also consists of Suited broadways from 98s and up.

moreover I block AK/AQ/AJ,AA and since he calls I rule out TT+ for sure

Could you enlighten me on this one?

If he calls small 4bets oop with JT and broadways i´m like alwas cbetting smallish because he can´t call K high.

If he has more non-paired hands which likely consist of two T+ cards in his range the cbet has an even bigger EV because he has to fold all of these, so the part of his range that folds is bigger (percental).
