Flop: ($10.5) 5:h, 2:d, 6:c (2 players)
CO checks, Hero checks.

VILLAIN IS 16/5/Af 2,1/ AFq 40%

Turn: ($10.5) J:h (2 players)
CO checks, Hero bets $6.00, CO raises to $15.00, Hero calls $9.00.

River: ($40.5) Q:s (2 players)
CO bets $40.50, Hero calls $40.50.

I guess it is a good call on turn? After lucky river is it just obligatory call, or can I push? I did not push it on river as he may have set and he bets a big amount.

cbet please. and yes I would call the river. I don't think we have the required 50% equity against his valuebetting range to raise him.

cbet? i dont agree, its awfull board for cbet imo.
As played - i dont see call on turn with no reads. We r beating only bluffs.
And river is for sure just call. Actually river is almost blank, while he never plays medium hands this way. And we beat bluff by just Jx and not beating any stronger hands (expt for the 56 that sux now) So ez call.

I absolutely check behind such an ugly flop. C-bet is imo clearly EV- in longterm.

I was considering fold on turn. Recently I learned to give much more credit to check-raises. When played the hand now, I might fold it on turn :-)

btw - as played do you think I may even fold?

river? given your line - no way, then there's no reason in calling turn at all.

Correct again, VzLOM. It´s exactly as you say. I should have considered fold on turn - i.e. to give more credit to his check/raise play - one does not usually play the mediocre hands like c/r. (He actually had a set of sixes, so here you can see that I saved some money checking the flop. On the turn after his c/r I could realize the hand leads me to danger and fold on the turn. As played the river made my call mandatory, unfortunately. I did not consider shove at all - I just asked the question here to confuse forum so that it was not that obvious he had a set and everybody starts recommending fold on turn ;) But you analyzed the hand correctly even with my tricky question).

Thanks a lot. For me the knowledge earned is clear - fold more frequently with top pair if someone raises my bet.

Why do you check back the flop? I never do it, and I have my reasons why.. but why do you guys never cbet here?

cause our range almost never hit there.
i wouldnt check that behind 100%, but very often.

chenny8888б thats simple. This board is better for openlimers range than for us. Also fishes that limp\calls op doesnt have big f@cbet and could even call down w Ahigh

another reason is that frequently the plan of villain is to check/raise you if he hit something and it is likely that you have overcards. and by checking you get free card and control the pot.

I used to C-bet every flop against one opponent but I realized it is clearly better to pick flops for C-bet carefully.

So before I answer why I cbet here... do you cbet 882rainbow boards? what about 552?

that depends on other factors also. Mainly his open calling range (what he had more - PPs or sc's, randoms? Also our position, his f@cbet and his bet_vs_missed. Usually i like dry spared boards for cbets, but as i said it depends anyway.

Well TBH I love to cbet all boards that are dry and don't hit either mine or my opponents range. I don't even need FtCB percentages for this as cbets willt ake it down often enough. Against regs it's OK but you do set yourself up to be rebluffed as they know you miss so often (so you need to adjust).

Here though against a limp/caller (read: fish) though I'm less worried about hands I can viably represent. We simply bet because neither player rates to have anything. As a result we can protect ourselves from being bet out of the hand (assuming the turn comes a blank, you are folding to a bet right?) and we fold out K high hands. Assuming the board comes anything T or higher I would fire a second barrel as well to fold out weak made hands in my opponents' range that they may have called the flop with. I do this against nearly every opponent including most regs. (I very rarely fire a third barrel though).

BTW I can understand checking back some hands like AK AQ etc that rate to be the best hand at showdown and yet can't stand a check/raise. Checking back QJ here I think is a (big) leak

wait wait! we were speaking of dry boards.
U was asking of

882rainbow

256 is far from dryish boards. I think his range hits it well while there could be some midPPs and connectors.

Just look, 256 is very funny board:
22- set
33 - pair+gtsht
44 - pair+gtsht
55 - set
66 - set
77+ - overpair
almost the same for connectors.

Also dont forget he may be kinda fishy but not loose -

16/5

so his range is already kinda strong.

If his range is kinda strong then this board mostly misses him and is the same as 662r. Remember that there are less comboes of pocketpairs as there are hands like 98, etc. (and i'm fine with him floating 2 overs + gutshot from OOP against me ;)).

ehh why? He's raising all his top connectors like AJ+, KQ, so there will be tons of low and medium that already hit this board w gutshot atleast. "kinda strong" - i mean not random crap with all kind of gappers,2gappers etc. He just have all PPs and much connectors.
Ahhh just type his range and board in Holdemheatmap (dunno if its legal to post them here, sry if not)

Agree with chenny: cbet!
If the board was 982 I'd be more inclined to check back because it hits more of his medium hands like K9, K8 etc.
But on 652 even if someone peels as light as with hands like 98o it's very good for you - you're betting your Q high for value!

Without further reads against an unknown I think both calling the c/r and folding are ok.
Depends mostly on the general gameflow.

If you don't know about anything going on (for example if you're new on the table) I'd consider foldingto the c/r because the opponent is unlikely to bluff like this against an unknown (you're unknown to him) and he will not valueraise worse hands like this.

As played on the river I think I'd call because all draws bust and he might be valuebetting worse 2pairs.
