But it is relevant. They're reviewing the buyin structure and making a decision before mid April. A lot of people thought FT wouldn't do it because they'd lose a lot of multitable grinders, but they did. Stars no longer need to worry about their shortstackers moving to FT, there will be nowhere left for them to go.

Sorry, but Full Tilt is stealing their customers now that the F40 promotion is gone. Poker Scout even has an article on it.

There's nothing really to defend though. It's pretty obvious how bad having professional short stackers is for the long term health of ring games. Once people started leeching from it, instead of using it as a step towards full stack play, this move was inevitable.

I'm sure what Stars is trying to figure out now is the impact of the change. Does having bigger pots and more pots hitting the rake cap cover the fact that there will be less tables running? I guess we'll figure out what they think in April.

I read that discussion too and I think its 100% sure that PS will raise min buyin.. we (SSSers) dont have good arguments and that guy called needbeer just showing how is sss grinding profitable for us but not for site.....

And I think that this will be end of SSSing as we know it.. Coz if PS will raise min buyin then other sites like partypoker etc will follow them.

Party Poker is raising them in/by April as well.

Thats poker, game of adaption. No matter how You play or how rules change, You must do it +EV. If SSS will be eradicated ill go BSS. No problem 4 me.

i'm seriously considering abandoning SSS now, there just doesn't seem like much of a future for it.

If you are playing low/micro stakes, the only site where you can put in serious volume with SSS play is Stars. On the other sites, its impossible to find solid tables without other SSS guys to play in.

I could be wrong, but I believe a lot of the SSS skills transfer very well to SNG play. You just need to learn ICM.

Being a specialist has always been cautioned against and history shown this again and again. Look what happened to stud and look what continues to happen to limit. None of us remember it, but at one point draw poker was the "big game".

I'm playing BSS so am quite happy with such decision in general obv, but I'm not here to flame anyone...

Do you have any info about iPoker/OnGame plans in the future about this topic? I'm considering to move to iPoker as my main playground, but after this change by FTP, Stars, Party, it might not be the best place to play NL at all...

Not even insider information. My understanding is that because they are networks things move slower. For example bwin could make bwin only tables where the minimum buy-in is 35BB, but a network-wide change takes more effort.

My opinion:
If Stars/Tilt/Party all switch then it isn't going to take long until iPoker and OnGame are suffering. The skins can either chose to change to direct contribution rake, which won't be popular with the players, or the biggest skins on the network can try and put pressure on the whole network to change. If you assume that having every short stacker in the world rush to OnGame and iPoker is "bad" then this will happen much faster. (The general feeling amoung the cardroom managers in the industry is that professional SS is "bad".)

This post should be taken as the equivalent of a drunken conversation in a bar though. ♠_cool:

There is going to be some sort of effect on each poker room that does this and this is probably what happens.

SSS players try to buy in to the new 35BI which there isn't really a strategy for a lose money to full stacks
SSS players try to buy in full and stack of light and therefore lose
SSS players withdraw and find a new site
More BSS players will join the site because they know they are playing against villains with big stacks

Overall I think it's a good decision for the poker community if you play BSS but if you SSS I recommend you switch soon because the majority of sites will switch and the sites that don't switch everyone will be playing SSS.

I personally do not think SSS will totally disapeer. That would be like outlawing cigarretes completely.
I do think however that many will move to the iPoker network, on skins like 770, Betmost, etc. Also i am sure that some adaptation will arise. Ok, so we all don't want to sit down with $4 at a 5c/10c table, but it's a school of hard knocks, and we'll be ok.
As for Party, already you can't sit at a FR with less than $4. I've had to move to 6-max.
I BSS on several other sites, so i'm not too worried about much, but we'll see how this goes.

I think the changes affect NL10 and above.
