Hi everyone, quick update, sorry been busy over the weekend, proper update to follow maybe tomorrow:

Saturday

Had a terrible session, actually stopped to avoid tilting/will refocus another time.

Played:
6x Step A1's (2x1st's, 1x3rd)
3x Step C1's (1x1st)
8x Step B's (only 1x1st some absolutely crazy play & suckouts going on and I'm sure some pretty poor play from me too, but not had chance yet to analyse)

The win at Step C1 means I'm now holding a 2nd Step 1 ticket, but nothing really to celebrate, sorry, next session I will return stronger & more concentrated on the challenge in hand

Sunday

None played - had some forum & real life stuff to do and a couple of mtt's including a win (€70) in the Titan World Challenge League again (which ultimately means I've qualified for the finals and a shot at a WSOP package on there too (as have DarkNeo, Waiboy & AusIan, congrats & much respect guys ♠_love: ), but more of that later as not connected to this blog.

More analysis of where I went wrong on Saturday to follow along with renewed appetite to get this back on course

Ok everyone, another quick update now and then hopefully some analysis later on.

Did a handful of C1 & A2 steps last night, C1's in particular went well and now have 5xStep 1's ready. Will possible look to kick off some step 1's shortly, but bulk of volume at the moment still need to be in steps A-C.

The beauty of the C1 step is that a win (top 3) pays out a Step 1 and a retry at C1, it could well be those that keep me going long after I use up all the step A's

Day 8

Played 6xStep A2 (2x1st & 2x3rd)
Played 5xStep C1 (2x1st & 1x2nd#)

#2nd still a win, but I always note down my chip count position when the games stop.

Slow steady progress being made

Day 9

Actually found a spare hour or two to grind today

Step A1 = 9th, 6th, 7th, 4th, 7th, 3rd, 1st, 3rd
Step B = 6th, 5th, 2nd, 1st
Step C1 = 3rd, 6th, 8th
Step C2 = 3rd
Step 1 = 5th

A hell of a way to make 18 bucks... 164 micro sngs ♦ only another $11,982 to go, but of course geared towards higher steps.

Analysis from Saturday

Identified some leaks from my poor play on Saturday, hence the new 10 deadly sins:

1. Thou shall not try to moderate the forum whilst playing poker
2. Thou shall turn off the t.v. when playing, because although "Britains Got Talent" is hilarious, it's too distracting when a dog attempts to play the guitar (yeah seriously)
3. Thou shall not steal too wide when 5 handed and nicely placed
4. Thou shall not call with overpair Queens when 2 flushed on flop turns into 4 flushed on the river (schoolboy error )
5. Thou shall not think that I'm so much better than the micros so I should be winning them all (Thx TwiceT )
6. Thou shall try to play more in late evening (UK time), coz I just love those americans
7. Thou shall try to avoid having a table full of Russians, coz whilst they fish a lot, they keep on catching and are so unpredictable
8. Thou shall find more time to better use this blog, use of sample hands, replayer tourneys, ask for 2nd opinions etc
9. Thou shall not be so surprised to catch two straight flushes in one sng only to throw it all away on an AK shove on the bubble (ok maybe the shove was good, but think I got distracted by the thought "2x straight flushes, I have to win this now" doh!
10. Thou shall think up a 10th

Thanks everyone, your support is truely inspiring.

Update due (maybe overdue) & will follow shortly. It can however be summed up in 3 points:

1) All Steps sessions were severely delayed for many hours yesterday due to the "Pokernoob" effect. I just had to watch (rail by tv) Tobias on the final table of the EPT High Roller. What a guy that man is, awesome result.

2) Started the session with great results in the micros, including 5 wins in a row on Step A.

3) Session turned sour when losing 1 of my Step 2's on the bubble (KTs BB defence deep into push/fold against Q8 push from SB). Was unlucky to finish 4th in the other Step 2 attempt meaning a retry.

Proper update, progress chart & hopefully some analysis and/or a random tournament in the replayer to follow.

So really, you have 330 initial chances at the 30c SNG, from that you have to create 30 Step 1 ($3.30) SNG tickets to have broke even so to speak. That should be very doable, and you will have many cheap attempts at the "real" steps. The chart is very useful, you may have even inspired me to give it a go, not on such a big scale though, the thought of 330 30c SNG's makes me cry. ♦

really interesting blog. i never did understand these steps things before i love how calculated everything is. great plan bart. i would do the same if i knew what to do in an SNG

Nice challenge, but i suppose you could have started on STEP 1 from beggining and throw in some 100-200$ and save few weeks of your life. These SNGs are so easy. I managed to get to 8/10 promotions to Step2 (with retries), and i am SNG fish.

But if you have time and will to play <1$ sngs...

How is the challenge going?

I tried some Step 1s, 9-man turbo SNG, and they are sooo easy. Almost like a freeroll - the first few people bust so quickly, that before you even realize it you have secured at least a Step 1 ticket back. Then I usually take a flip or two and if I win them I am in to Step 2. Step 2 is a bit tougher, but the same system still works I started off with 17*Step 1s ($56.10)and I now have tickets worth a bit more than $110...

Yes sorry, been busy so haven't updated in a while, apologies.

I will post the progress chart shortly, but can confirm that I reached Step 4 the other night ($75 ticket from 30cent start). I actually played it straight away which is unusual for me, but was feeling good so ideal time to play it.

This particular game was highly unusual in that just 1 guy (immediately to my left) was steamrollering the whole game. He quickly built up a stack of 7k+ plus, initially with suckouts but later with AA, KK, KK, JJ etc. I've never seen such a lucky game for someone.
Anyway to cut a long story short, I wasn't being allowed to do any stealing or speculative play so just had to wait for my turn to shove. Went in with JJ and lost to KTo ofc. 5th so a drop back down to Step 3.

Been getting extremely frustrated with the fish on the micros, numerous fails on or just before the bubble including a classic TT vs 72o call from a guy who said "lets gamble" and then promptly hit a T86 x 9 straight , but they are still profitable overall.

You guys are right to question my reasoning for playing the micros, maybe I didn't make it clear at the start. If you are serious about wanting the prize at the end and want to take a stab at these and have the funds... start as high up as you can... less games, less variance, less grind. Go for it. Spending $1k to $2k to win a $12k package is still very +ve.

I personally have the funds and if I really wanted, I could have started grinding the Step 3's or even 4's, but I'm here for the challenge and the challenge alone. I play poker for enjoyment first, profit second. A famous philosopher once said (along the lines of), it's not always what you achieve in life but how you achieve it and who you meet along the way. If there had been a 1cent sng step I probably would have started there instead ♦

So basically, this challenge is a bit of fun (although I am taking it seriously when playing), a cheap way to have a stab at something very special and hopefully create a bit of interest in the forum.
Not expecting to win, but if I do.. wow what a journey
