well said gun and tim. small samples <1k EV is completely useless because of short term variance affecting the 'results oriented' calculations.

as you get a larger sample the graph starts to represent your actual play by taking many many more samples of the same situations over and over again.

>1k games is a decent sized sample to see how you trend against the ev line but the more the better.

ps. no matter what the ev line says, you always need to adjust, review and learn.. if you dont you will be left behind no matter what.

Hi Gun

great blog I will be following it although I am mostly a cash game player I do enjoy playing sng from time to time.

by the way do you still have the 90K points.

why don't you use them in sng for tournament tokens those are very soft. you can get $26 tokens for 1800 ftp and then you can get $75 token in $24 + $2 sng. from there it is cash game.

otherwise matrix are pretty cool as well.

you could make $1000 easy i'd say.

I have 120K points now (119,999 to be exact lol) but I'm not sure what to do with them yet. I'm thinking about buying the 27" monitor but I'm not sure if I can justify it since I already have a 23" one. Not sure if I could be bothered playing for the $26 tournaments since they work out to be $3 BI.

Ok, update on the STs. I now remember why I hated them so much, they pretty much feel like gambling with a tiny edge. After about 900 games I'm BE (1 BI down) :( I'm pretty sure if I continued to grind them out I could see some profit but for now I think I'll go back to normal turbo Sngs. The STs definitely would be profitable but it is difficult to decide who knows what they are doing and who is a complete donk since 99% of the players are unknown. It is strange when I push the bottom of my range, get 2 callers and find that I'm still ahead, obviously this is when variance kicks in and I lose a huge pot followed by me sucking out for a 30 chip pot the next hand.

I've decided to go back to the $22+2 turbos since that so far has been my most comfortable limit, I've had good results and the players seem soft. I also think my game is suited best to this limit, and without adjusting too much I think I can turn over a nice profit. One thing I need to work on is setting new goals, when I had a goal (even if it is money related) I see to perform better. Every time I reach a goal I seem to crash after, maybe due to having no goals? My new goal for the moment is to reach $6K, I'm currently at $4K. Once I get there I'll try the $36s again and move from there.

PS STs suck balls.

PPS I'll get on skype soon, post your skype names or however it works on here.

Hi Gun

Would you agree for a quick seesion on skype (ASAP if possible :) )

I have decided to give a go at SNG ST and would like a quick run through the dynamics of them. Should take more than 10-15 minutes
and would be great.

Nah I'm giving SnGs a break for a while, I snapped after another downswing and withdrew most of my bankroll. I'm giving rush poker a shot for a while, so far it's going ok and there is plenty of new stuff to learn. Also, I won't have much time for poker soon so it's more convenient if I can just leave whenever I need. No doubt I'll get bored of it at some stage and come back to SnGs. What level are you grinding at the moment?

im at the 24s now. moved up this month. doin ok. holding my own.. still a lot to learn. finally getting used to $500 swings though

Ok, I'm back. I've decided to give SnGs another crack. So far I've played 53 games at the $24 level and the players are even more terrible than I remember. Only problem is I can't seem to win a hand, or should I say win important hands. Almost every time I get the chips in ahead some moron calls with shit and sucks out on me. I sort of forgot how horrible SnG variance can be... Anyway I'm 20BI below EV already so the FT fish owe me! Hopefully over the next couple of weeks I can build up my bankroll and get back on top of my game. Seems like the last 6 months I have gone nowhere so I'd like to change that. Also, I should have a $600 mid year bonus in July so that should help as well. I'll leave you with this horrible graph, for once I hope the red line actually means something and it isn't masking my terrible game.

I was doing ok for a while but I got sick of all the coolers, everyone is so nitty it's insane. Having said that there are a few maniacs as well which makes things tricky to judge since HEM doesn't work that well with stats yet. Once I get my bankroll stable again I plan to stick with SnGs and then mix in some Rush when I need to make up FTPs to keep my iron status.

Also, to get an idea about how nitty rush is I filter hands to only include when I went AI preflop and KK is my biggest losing hand. Ie nobody (during the timezone I usually play) is willing to go broke with anything less than KK, where are all the spewtards pushing 88 or JTs?

u may disagree, but in rush poker i often dont stack off with kk and often flat 3bets with this hand. I also like flatting any ep or mp raise with AK and QQ alot

Yeah, I was doing this a lot too.

But really. Rush became super nit fest in last 2months. Before that it was still really nice, but im not sure if it can be still profitable unless you have super sick mindset and no-ABC style.

I did the same with AK and QQ- just because of the implied odds but I'm not sure if it is the best way to play them. I also found that broadening my 4-bet range in certain situations against big stacks (150BB+) seemed to work but I'm sure that would have huge variance. Either way I got frustrated runing into set over sets or other coolers. I think I even saw set over set over set at least once (I wasn't on top unfortunately). I'll probably keep playing now and then if I can.

OH MY FUCKING GOD! Just because you were dealt 2 cards does not mean HAVE to call MY all-ins on the bubble! How do you adjust to retards that randomly spite call for no reason? Yes I'm ahead when they call but with my luck lately I'll take the blinds everytime. End rant.

Coolers suck. It helps me reading about other players experiencing them too though. Keep posting!
