I went out in the morning to play Warcraft. As expected, I crushed my games because the tough opponents were at the lower end of the brackets. I'm in the finals for this preliminary now and I'm against an undead player, the guy who eliminated me early last year.
Because I finally realised there's a prize of some Samsung voucher (initially I thought there was only seeding in the national finals), I will try a little harder so that I can buy a nice monitor with it. Maybe tonight or tomorrow morning, I will practice a few games and watch tons of replays. I'm still unsure whether to use Elf vs Ud (more experience) or Orc vs Ud (imba). My game is on Sunday at 1530 so I have quite a few hours to prepare for it
As for poker updates, I was out the whole day yesterday so I didn't play. I went to the PC Show to pick up some brochures from all the laptop making companies. My initial plan was to buy some badass M15x Alienware (the M17x was used in my competition and performance seems really nice) but it is so damn heavy (3-4kg).
Another plan is to buy a desktop and maybe a netbook, I hope I don't waste time during class playing games cause I want to minimise time spent on studying for sch as always so that I can focus on the more important things in life (like making money).
I'm ranked 10 now, I'm expecting myself to drop to rank 20 by Sunday but I have almost 3 weeks to try breaking rank 8 to get 3000$. Not sure if I should try or just take a slower pace and go for 2000$. I'm definitely not settling for $1000 only, that's for sure.
Since my luck sucks hard on Saturday and I don't want my giant 7000$ kill to go to waste, I will try playing 20-50bb games at midstakes and experiment how profitable it is today.
I played 1.5 hours, 1700 hands and lost 1200$. The games are so tough on Saturday Mornings (US friday night). Maybe it was because I didn't do any table selection and opened 24 tables (a very bad idea). All the shortstackers were out there in full force. I believe most pro shortstackers aren't fulltime pros, they are probably students or have a real-life job so they play more during weekends. if they really had more than enough time, they won't use this BS strategy and actually learn some real poker skillz
This session was about me getting coolered every single hand. I had like 4-5 suckouts when I had less than 25% equity but I lost most of the flips so I wasn't running above EV or anything like that.
Noobelf is one of the most annoying shortstackers I have ever seen. It's hard to try playing tighter at those tables with him behind me cause 24 tables at SH is really fast. He has a 3bet stat of 21% and just shoves nonstop, stupid skilless noob. He was terrorising me 2 months ago before the buyin changes, back when I was taking shots at NL400.
I think if I want to play EZ game i should play NL200 FR or SH instead of this SSSS shallow stack strategy shit

yea, SSS edge is small and the variance is high. it's good when one wants to familiarise with ranges, or just want to play another 'variant' of texas hold'em

hahaha yeah i only played 20-50bb tables cause I knew Saturday was my doomswitch day and I wanted to cut losses if I lost again. But I ran so bad within one hour that I quit.
It is so sick that the tables during weekdays are so soft (1-2 regs at most per table) but tables have 3-4 regs on weekends
I used 2.5bb openraise from UTG/SB, 2.25 from MP, 2bb from BU/CO. Can't use the mousescroll for this specific betsizing so have to keep typing it in, quite irritating.

I bought an Aspire netbook (499 SGD) and everyone told me Acer sucks :(.
My initial plan was to go MSI to by their MSI Wind 130/160 but it was on the 6th level and I was at the 4th level so I was too lazy to go up. In the end I had to wait for all my friends and follow them around for another 1.5h+ after I was done. FML.
I didn't really research much, I wanted to research at my friend's house but they insisted I play mahjong with them. And my purchase was kind of an "impulse buy", I was thinking "Fuck just one buyin let's go". I know many higher limit players have this same mentality (like TLN who wrote about one big blind for some notes) and it's really bad, it makes me a spendthrift when all my life I have pretty much always been a miser.
I also suck at bargaining because I hate shopping and always want to end it quick. Unlike my friends who keep on lowering the price for their ASUS laptop from 1798 to 1560. I allowed those salesmen to cheat me ♠
Today I will try winning the Warcraft competition, then I'll take the voucher and buy a nice Samsung monitor at the PCShow, maybe a Desktop as well

WCG Preliminaries at Funan
I'm quite tired after going out for the past 3 days. I lost my match 1-2 because I lacked practice with nightelf. I was doing some last min practice with my other undead friend and they moved my match forward from 4pm to 2pm. I might have been able to squeeze in some last minute practice for terenas stand and things might have changed, who knows?
State of Warcraft balance
Orc vs Ud - 65%/35% if both players play normal, 75%/25% if both play perfect
Elf vs Ud - 35%/65% if both players play normal, 50%/50% if both play perfect
Without consistent practice I cannot bring out my true potential; I am rarely able to play with super good micro. I should be using Orc more often in the future for the National Finals. It is just so easy to make mistakes with Elf, especially against the Death Knight's Unholy aura. If you don't take risks, you cannot apply heavy pressure on the Undead but if you go too close it is just too easy to get surrounded. Of course I can buy boots but 250 gold is still a substantial amount to spend. On the other hand, Orc vs Ud is the complete opposite. You just need a level 2 blademaster so that you can pressure the DK+crypt fiends and keep him in base.
The final match
I won the first game Orc Vs Ud on Twisted Meadows even though it was 70 food vs 80 food in the final battle. I think my Blademaster had all the good items + my berserkers countered his air heavy army of destroyers and frost wyrms pretty well.
In the second game on Turtle rock, I played elf and we spawned beside each other which almost always mean an instant loss for me. I can't venture too far out because if I got caught I would lose at least 2-3 archers. During practice games I was experimenting between Demon Hunter or Warden. I used the Warden but was quite helpless because his DK hit level 3 while I was kept at level 2.
I used a very old strategy on Terenas Stand in game 3 (which worked on him in 2007). Because I had 0 practice on this map, I went for the Darkranger strategy. My opponent went for the 2 crypt mass ghouls rush which was good for me but he contained me in base for most of the game. I bought a Firelord and pushed into his base with mass archers while building Ancients of War outside but it was easily countered when he built 2 spirit towers, kept all his ghouls at the back (so I couldn't use BlackArrow on them) and switched to fiends while sniping off archers with level 2 Death Coils.
Overall I wasn't too satisfied with the results but I'm not too disappointed too because I am quite inactive. I will train in July after I finish my June poker goals.
The interesting thing is that my 2nd prize ($100 Samsung Voucher) is arguably superior to the 1st prize (500GB Hard Disk worth 100-200$ + Seeding into National Finals)
Buying a Desktop
I bought a Dell Desktop (I think it's the XPS 8100 worth 1699$). One of the sellers was my brother's friend so we upgraded our i5 processor to 17 (+$135) and our GFX card to a Geforce 260 (+$180). Having a 100$ cash rebate is standard when you upgrade at Dell Direct but we were given another 115$ discount so I paid $1800.
I also tested my Netbook yesterday. I must say Acer really sucks. My MSN Messenger kept crashing and I got so frustrated, I went to bed at 10pm.
I won money but I am really disappointed with the way I played today. I feel a little tired after going out for the past 3 days. The amount I could have saved probably far exceeds the possible extra $1000 I can get by placing top 8. So I should either 1) play more hours 2) move down to NL200 for the rest of this month and grind. I shall see my mood tomorrow and decide accordingly.
I made many bluffs which failed badly. FastEddie and Pokthemonkey were fighting for many pots with me and I had a really hard time because I was playing so many tables. Should have tightened up instead.
I hope my luck remains as hot as ever and I stop screwing up. Now my profit for the month stands at 7k while my EV profit is at 500. Thinking about this might make me feel uneasy but when I said the same thing in March, I got doomswitched in April so I will just be contented that I'm running hot and making money.
