Haha! Mission accomplished on both counts! But what an interesting evening. Played in 5 MTTs altogether and went moderately deep in just one. Conall was playing MTTs too, and we spent the whole session chatting over Skype. This was very enjoyable, but revealed a few things. I found it quite hard, given the lack of free space on my poxy little screen, to play and type at the same time. In fact I minraised by mistake a couple of times because of this (although Conall told me how to set up Tableninja so that hopefully it won't happen again). I also think I'm not really up to concentrating on mutlitabling and chatting at the same time yet. Those are the cons, but the pros were that it made it more fun, and I felt like less of a sad social outcast than I would have done playing on my own. Maybe using a mic is the way to go with this in the future. More intrusive of course, but less manual dexterity required. Not sure. It would please my teenage son, who said he was freaked out by the sight of me typing rapidly to someone else on the internet, presumably because that's what he fritters his day away doing, and he thinks I'm too old for it!
My conversations with Conall also revealed my horribly superficial approach to the game. He would ask me questions along the line of 'what range are you shoving for that stack size in that position?'. Aaargh! How the fuck should I know? And of course, that's the point. I should know. My approach to the game is far to 'touchy feely'. I need to be more analytical. My 'feel' approach to the game has served me fairly well so far, but it's clear to me that it won't help me progress. But all those numbers and calculations make my head spin though.
Problem is I spend my work day calculating stuff, and it seems like bringing work home with me if I start using that approach to poker. I will have to sort myself out.
Also spoke to MrMardyBum, which was nice as I was slightly concerned about his last blog post. He seemed OK, and says he may start blogging again soon, which would be nice. I also managed to make a rather inappropriate remark about his home town, which he seemed to take well (sorry MrM!). It's funny how you say stuff texting on the web that you wouldn't dream of saying in rl. It's a bit like driving and having a good rant when someone does something stupid. You just wouldn't do the same thing if someone dodged in front of you when you were walking.
Speaking of which, two of my new internet friends (A and B) had a rather acrimonious argument over Skype last night, which I ducked out of very early, but had to watch. This did not end well. The strange thing about arguments like this is that you can go back and dissect them, as they just sit there on your screen. This is a completely new experience for me. My view is that A made a remark questioning B's experience of the limit they were talking about (although it's not clear to me that they had agreed on precisely what they were talking about), and B took this as questioning his ability in general. I think A was demanding an answer to a slightly ill-defined question in rather more of a hectoring tone than he would have in rl, and B reacted to this badly. But B then made a rather insulting remark to A that didn't really leave either of them a route back to a civilised discussion. I don't think either of them are going to be snapped up by the British Diplomatic Service any time soon. It's a shame, and I hope they can patch things up as I like both of them and think I can learn a lot from both of them. At least I've learnt from this and will try not to say things online that I wouldn't say in real life.
Anyway, where are the answers to my question on SnGWiz you useless lazy bastards!
Sorry for the long post.
