100k challenge, week 7
Life's been busy with the interviews and all so I haven't had time to update this. Last week I played one day towards the challenge, during which I think I played well (can't remember, this was over a week ago) but lost a bit. As said in the beginning, live winnings don't count, otherwise I'd be at $100k already.
This week doesn't look much better, as I'm going to Deauville next week for the EPT, meaning I need to spend time with my gf this week. I did play a bit on monday, winning about 1k but playing poorly - didn't really deserve to win but whatever. I'm about to order two 30'' monitors so I can get on a mega grind once I come home from Deauville, so I promise to actually become a grinder again soon. Right now live poker is fun and Deauville is too soft to skip, and since I'm miles ahead in my challenge anyway, I don't feel bad missing out on a couple of weeks. In other news I also bought a Samsung Galaxy S (or X? anyway the new baller thing) today
Ongame $5862
Microgaming $1559
Pokerstars.fr $3839
FTP $3630
Everest $127
Pokerstars.com $140
Withdrawals $19842
Merge $588
Live satties $1369
Total: $36956 (-$372)
yeah the galaxy S is a ballin' phone for sure. nice choice.
good luck to you in Deuville
100k challenge, week 8
I played two days this week due to being busy with life. Today was actually my only whole day at the office (yeah I know, by "office" I mean my living room obviously), and since I have to get up early tomorrow I only played half a session. Given the lack of volume I'm more than happy with my results this week.
I also booked a holiday in Thailand for myself and my girlfriend, we'll be there for two weeks in March. We'll try to avoid the tourist spots apart from a quick shopping spree in Bangkok, and spend time on the quieter islands such as Phi Phi and Krab. I also have a lot of friends who live in Koh Samui (which is a tourist hole unfortunately) who I'd like to visit. Aaand we might go to Cambodia as well since we'd both like to see the Angkor Wat and Phnom Penh, but we'll see if we have the time. I might also stay there by myself and skip the flight back, as I don't really have anywhere I need to be late March (expect grinding) but my gf has to go back to uni.
Soooo:
Ongame $7649

Next week is all EPT Deauville main and side events, so no online grinding for me. I ordered a new laptop but sadly it didn't arrive in time, so I don't have a grinding machine in Deauville. I have my old semi-broken laptop that's good for internet browsing but it's definitely not a grinding computer. I'm playing the 5300€ ME on tuesday.
Made it to EPT day 2 with 76400. Average after day 1A was 52k so it's not going bad. I'm really tired so I'm not going to post more hands than one, which was the sickest laydown I've made in my life.
I'm going to just copy-paste what I wrote in my 2+2 post about it. There are no results, I folded the river and he didn't show. If you have any questions why I did it, I can answer them later, right now I'm too tired to explain my thought process.
Villain is an american 25-30 year oldish, online player looking guy. He has an accent so american there's no chance he's not, and he doesn't have any badges so he's not a qualifier. In case you don't know Deauville is a dead town in the middle of nowhere, so it's hard to believe any non-competent americans would fly here for the fun of it. He could even be some well-known US player, I hardly recognize any non-european pros.
The table is full of terrible French players, he seems to be the only one who has a clue. I'm sure we both think that there's no value for us clashing since everyone else is so bad. He's actually playing really well based on the first couple of hours. His sizings suggest he's more likely an mtter than a cash gamer. He's been caught 4bet bluffing once in a spot I thought was very good to try that out, and he's played very well post-flop.
We both have over 2x average (starting stack 30k). We both got our stacks in a pretty standard manner stacking French donks, there are no special dynamics going on between us two and there's no history. 100/200 no ante, 3rd level of the day. He limps UTG. He's overlimped once or twice and open limped once, this is a really good table for open limping imo so I don't think that suggests he's fishy or anything. Based on what I've seen before he'd definitely raise AQ and AA here though, he's not a tarpy kind of a guy and the players are so bad he could raise AQ to 6x and still get called by a random A2o.
So, he limps UTG. Two other guys limp, I make it 1050 from the hijack with AQ. He calls quite quickly and one of the limpers calls too.
Flop 22Q (~3600) He leads for 2100, the other guy folds, I call.
Turn Q (7800) He bets 4600, I call.
River A (17000) He bets 11k. In retrospect my sizing here is pretty horrendous but anyway I make it 24000. He shoves for about 55k effective. I...?

Oh, and here's another hand that I can lucratively copy-paste from Pokernews:
"Miikka Anttonen just showed a lot of respect to Xuan Liu by laying down an over pair to the board. There were two limps before Liu raised to 400 from the button and Anttonen three-bet to 1,525 from the small blind. Liu called after the two limpers folded to leave it heads-up to the J♦5♦Q♠ flop. The Finn led for 2,225 and his Canadian female opponent called to see the T♠ turn card. This time Anttonen checked before open folding K♠K♥ when Liu bet 3,625."
I'm such a nit.
I can't really see why you folded the KK, please tell more about the hand since I would've probably just call to try to suck out on river or try to get do showdown cheaply. I don't play MTTs though, just read this blog
The KK I get, because TT JJ QQ AK and so on has you beat
But wtf the AQ hand, yeah his 3bet river is kinda weird, but only 22 and AA has you beat
I expect no AA in his range so he has 1 combo left, I don't think you can fold, because a sicko bluff from him is more in my line of expectations than the 1 combo that has you beat, so yeah, dont like the fold.
Do like to hear your thinking in the hand ,
Grats on the 100k ship!
I'm pretty sure with this hand, it was one of those sick times where they have 22.
After the re-raise on the river, if this player is competent, he knows that you can't be three betting anything but a monster.
I think he is shoving becuase he has quads and has a great opportunity to get paid. I don't think anyone is ever folding the river, with any possible raising hands.
At least if it is a bluff your opponent is only complementing you as a good enough player to fold what you are repping.
That is one of the best laydowns I have ever seen, especially considering it's an MTT.
Busted EPT in pretty much three hands.
One: French megadonk opens 3x from MP, I raise to 9x from the BTN with JJ. We are 30BB deep, he calls leaving pot behind. Flop 887, he donkbet shoves, I snap obv and he has JTo. River 9. Wp, sir.
Two: AK<AQ pfai, flop QQx.
Three: 75k effective blind vs blind at 800/1600/200. I raise to 4700, Villain raises to 14500, I shove with AKs. He snaps with QQ and I don't hit. Had I won this I would've had a monster stack but what can you do.
I then went on to play the 1100€ PLO. I finished 17th, top 14 paid. Busted AA54ds vs AKT2 pfai vs a french moron. Gg.
Today I was supposed to play the 2200€ event but I'm so tilted that I'm gonna skip it and get drunk instead (starting now). I'll play the 1k's tomorrow and the day after and possibly something else. I'm even considering selling action for the 10k highroller and taking a shot, but probably not. Depends how drunk I get today ♦
Oh and the KK I folded because I was behind about 99% of the time and I wasn't getting odds to try to hit a straight, and I could be drawing to a split. She doesn't bet the turn with AQ or KQ so I can only beat a bluff, and since everything got there she would've had to float with total air on the flop, which I highly doubt. Well, I guess she *could* have something like T9s trying to get me to fold a better hand but that's about it.
Ugly shit, GL getting drunk,
And if you bust in a tournament just think ''I just won 102k:P''
Great players party I suppose. I have a huge blackout after 1am, but I woke up from a new hotel room under a bed with every possible light on. Found out I had come to the hotel at 4am, somehow unregistered from my hotel room and bought a new room from the same hotel claiming there were ghosts in my original room.
To quote Thom Yorke: No surprises at the 1100€ side event.. All in on 9xx flop with J9, he has 77, turn 7. Then AK<AQ pfai, board Kxx...T...J. And finally AK<JJ into a 70k pot at 200/400. Jesus. One last 1k tomorrow and then getting the fuck out of this country, never coming back (except next year).

Woooot. GG.
No surprises @ the last EPT 1k: AA<AK pfai into a 30k pot at 100/200 no antes. Was left with 7k after this, and three hands later I 3bet a random french donkey with AK and he flats 35BB deep. Flop K32, check-check, turn 5, he checks, I bet 2,1k, he shoves for my remaining 6k, I snap, he has K6o. River 4, GG life. EPT summary: 8 played tournaments, 11500€ in used buy-ins, got 100€ back for a bounty.
Quite inspiring blog mister. I myself also in debt at the moment. And although I really don't believe I can come back with the help of poker, it makes me glad to know that at least someone made it possible! Keep up the good work lad!
