Still sticking with the decision not to go to EPT Copenhagen?

Yep. I want to make some variance-free money for a change so I'm just gonna grind midstakes, make a quick 10k and then f off to Thailand. I think I'm going to either Macau for the Macau Millions or Vegas for the Caesar's Palace WSOPC or EPT Berlin when I get back. I kinda wanna stay somewhere warm so probably choosing Macau or Vegas. If there was anything in Australia I would snap call and go there because, well, I love Australia.

A couple of hands from today that are pretty sick but I think well played by me:

1) 12 left in 55e 6max rebuy. Villain is an aggro reg and he's going to float my cbet here with almost his entire range. On the turn I think my standard line is to check-shove (to get value from his floats he's gonna stab) but I think that's kinda too obvious and he's going to check back the turn with all of his showdown value hands. If I bet, I'll get him to fold some of his showdown value hands (or at least when I barrel the river). By check-shoving the turn I only get him to fold his airballs (which I'm ahead of anyway). So I'm gonna bet and see what happens. If he flats it depends on the river card but I think I'm going to shove most of them. When he raises the turn it just doesn't make ANY sense, he should still be calling most of his value hands and this just looks like a float turned into a bluff or a draw. So I decide my A high is good and call. GG river.

2) 13 or 14 left in 109 so close to final table. This dude was a bit of a spazz, from Spain or Portugal or something based on user name. I don't think he barrels turn with Ax hands because they have showdown value and I'm expected to float a lot. And even if he did, I don't think he would SNAP bomb river with a pot-sized bet if he had a set or an ace because the flush got there. I mean you'd have to think for at least a second about it right? So mainly based on timing tells I called.

I'm going to just copy-paste what I wrote in my 2+2 post about it. There are no results, I folded the river and he didn't show. If you have any questions why I did it, I can answer them later, right now I'm too tired to explain my thought process.

Villain is an american 25-30 year oldish, online player looking guy. He has an accent so american there's no chance he's not, and he doesn't have any badges so he's not a qualifier. In case you don't know Deauville is a dead town in the middle of nowhere, so it's hard to believe any non-competent americans would fly here for the fun of it. He could even be some well-known US player, I hardly recognize any non-european pros.

The table is full of terrible French players, he seems to be the only one who has a clue. I'm sure we both think that there's no value for us clashing since everyone else is so bad. He's actually playing really well based on the first couple of hours. His sizings suggest he's more likely an mtter than a cash gamer. He's been caught 4bet bluffing once in a spot I thought was very good to try that out, and he's played very well post-flop.

We both have over 2x average (starting stack 30k). We both got our stacks in a pretty standard manner stacking French donks, there are no special dynamics going on between us two and there's no history. 100/200 no ante, 3rd level of the day. He limps UTG. He's overlimped once or twice and open limped once, this is a really good table for open limping imo so I don't think that suggests he's fishy or anything. Based on what I've seen before he'd definitely raise AQ and AA here though, he's not a tarpy kind of a guy and the players are so bad he could raise AQ to 6x and still get called by a random A2o.

So, he limps UTG. Two other guys limp, I make it 1050 from the hijack with AQ. He calls quite quickly and one of the limpers calls too.

Flop 22Q (~3600) He leads for 2100, the other guy folds, I call.

Turn Q (7800) He bets 4600, I call.

River A (17000) He bets 11k. In retrospect my sizing here is pretty horrendous but anyway I make it 24000. He shoves for about 55k effective. I...? ?(

Oh, and here's another hand that I can lucratively copy-paste from Pokernews:

"Miikka Anttonen just showed a lot of respect to Xuan Liu by laying down an over pair to the board. There were two limps before Liu raised to 400 from the button and Anttonen three-bet to 1,525 from the small blind. Liu called after the two limpers folded to leave it heads-up to the J♦5♦Q♠ flop. The Finn led for 2,225 and his Canadian female opponent called to see the T♠ turn card. This time Anttonen checked before open folding K♠K♥ when Liu bet 3,625."

I'm such a nit.

Read entire blog, great read

about this AQ hand I'm really interested in your thought process obv u put him on 22,
btw I really dont like that raise on river tbh if you r not going to call a shove(what hand r you taking value from with your raise? if you dont think he have QX in his range) dont you think that he will play the same AQ,KQ,QJ,QT you say that table was full of donks so he can easly limp QXs given your reads
ther r
1 combo 22
1 combo AA
2 combos AQ
and at least total of 3 combos of QTs-QKs (if he limps with only Qxs) that imo he will play the same way here

about that KK hand standard fold imo gg

Here's 6 pages of discussion about the AQ hand: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/87/high-stakes-mtt/ept-deauville-5k-main-considering-raise-folding-relative-2nd-nuts-966376/

What a frustrating sunday. I was 21st in the Ongame championchip. $40k for first, I lost TT<AK into a massive chiplead pot. Had that held, I would have had 20% of the chips in the whole tournament and it would've been pretty hard not to cash 5 figs from that. Now I got $1300, woohoo.

I also mincashed the Ongame $109 cubed for $435 or something. First hand after the bubble I 3bet TT, fishy villain calls with KJs leaving 1,5x pot behind and we get it in on Jxx flop. GG.

Party $215 I busted just before the bubble 99<A5 pfai into an 80BB pot.

Everest $109 sunday thing I busted QQ<KJs.

The UB $215 I fucked up myself to be fair. I bricked pretty much every smaller tournament I played, got 4th in the Microgaming 22 6max cubed for 545€ but all in all that was a breakeven Sunday. Week was -2 or 3k I think, too lazy to count.

I now have my traveling plans clear. This is what it looks like:

March 3rd flying from Helsinki to Bangkok with my girlfriend. Direct overnight flight, departing at 11.30PM and landing at 2PM. That's pretty much the most awesome way to fly over there if you ask me.

March 3rd flying also from Bangkok to Krabi at 6PM if we make it. I assume we will as we have 3,5 hours and the connecting flight departs from the same airport.

Chilling at Krabi until March 12th. Going to visit Phi Phi, snorkel, dive etc a lot. No internet poker.

March 12th flying to Bangkok. Spending 4 days there with my gf, I assume mainly shopping but I'll try to drag her to see the temples and other interesting stuff as well. Oh and eating awesome food. A lot.

March 16th she flies back home, I'll take a flight to Kuala Lumpur. I have 24 hours in Malaysia so that's going to be a quickie. I'll try to see at least some of the sights. My best friend was there as an exchange student last year so he'll probably be able to tell me what to do in that short time.

March 17th I'll fly from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney. I'll spend a week in Sydney. Ohhhh man I miss Sydney so much. I'm not sure if I've mentioned it in this blog, but I used to live in Sydney for a year. I have so many cool stories from there. I've busted my entire bankroll at the Star City casino more than once in five-figure roulette flips. I've been basically homeless, sleeping in the streets (as a result of the roulette flips). I've dated hot aussie chicks. I had a roommate one time who was a canadian drug dealer. That was pretty interesting. He had come to Australia for backpacking, then got addicted to something (I think it was crystal meth but not sure) and he wasted all his money and couldn't buy a return flight. He was staying in the country illegally and dealt drugs some guys he knew were making in their own basement laboratory. Anyway. SYDNEY. CAN'T WAIT!!!!

March 23th I'll have to say goodbye to Sydney and fly to Perth to play the ANZPT. I'll play the Main Event which in USD is about $2500 and the highroller which is about $5000.

March 27th I'm facing the most terrible return flight EVER. Perth-Sydney-Kuala Lumpur-Bangkok-Frankfurt-Helsinki. With all the stopovers that's over 50 hours. Fuck my life.

hell no. tripreport please!

hmm about that AQ hand at EPT Deauville I read threat at 2+2
but I still have some problems with yours and villains line

flop
imo cos you r all deep imo is ok for him to lead with quads/AQ/KQs/,QJs/AA/KK/QQ , into a donk and you (although you say that you think that he always raise AQ+, but if you think that he will limp call 22 imo he will also have QJs/KQs in his limp caling range) cos that way he will get max value from Qx or TT-AA, and you will call/float with that deep stacks at least on flop with TT+ ,AJs,AKs etc
so I like his lead on flop with any of his hands also your call is standard imo

turn
I like his his line from same reasons as on flop (if he is good he will bet for thin value KK+ too here and prob. shout out on river) your call is standard imo you wont get called by worse if you raise

river
I like his line as hand was played with all his range that he bet flop and turn(although KK he will most likely check/fold)
BUT I REALY DONT LIKE AND CANT UNDERSTAND YOUR LINE cos your thoughts are contradictory to each other
you say

Everyone keeps telling me that raising the river with the intention of folding to a shove is really bad.

Yeah, I know information raises are bad in general. But this is still quite a bit different from info raise-folding KQ on Q72 flop. I mean, who doesn't raise AQ here? Really?

Yeah he shouldn't have a random Q here much and if he has one he'll probably fold it quite often.WTF???? But when it comes around the first time on the river, I believe I have to assume that it's more likely that I get called by worse than that he has quads. So it's not really and info raise, it's a value raise although a bit thin. The info part comes only when he shoves.

first i dont think that this is info raise you made on river at all, but that this is imo pure value raise and

second yea I will do it all the time,
- cos I think that villain have Qx in his range the way hand was played and
- that he will call with Qx

but you say
villain prob. dont have Qx in his range + I think even if he has Qx he will fold.

SO WHY THE FUCK YOU RAISE ON RIVER??? when you r not expecting to get any value from weaker hands
(btw your raise size imo is terrible, cos if you really have 155bb behind after you made that raise, that raise looks weak to me (small raise that is design to look strong, like value -"I have nuts" - raise) imo 30-35k will be better and imo if villain is calling 24k raise he will call 35k raise too)

and btw
- would you play AA the same way? with your reasoning I dont see much difference between AQ or AA in that spot on river (he will most likely fold Qx and shove only QQ/22)
- would you raise on river if 2-J hits?

bonebt, it's not exactly rocket science.

I don't think raising the river has much value because I don't think he'll have a worse Q often and if he does he'll fold it more often than not. However, this is basically a question of which is more likely: 1) he has quads, or 2) he has a worse Q and will call a raise. I, along with the rest of the world, figured 2 is still more likely although not very likely at all and chose to raise. It is a bit thin yes, but I think it would be pretty dumb not to raise that river.

yea
I like that line "me and the rest of the world..." but like 90%+ of the rest of the world will shove on river

and I dont think that you will be pretty dumb not to raise on river when you think that he dont have Qx and even if he have Qx he wont call a raise and you see no value in raising + you say that field was weak so u dont have any need to raise thin for value vs toughest villain on your table, and btw when you call he will show his hand and you will get info on the way he plays (what type of hands he limps and play it that way and imo that info is bigger value and giving you some edge vs him then raising in that spot with your reads "he dont have worse Q and if he has he will not call a raise"

btw you dint answer mine questions and i'm realy interested

Would u raise if 2-Q hit on river?

Would you play the same if you had AA/QQ??
-in QQ case would you raise or shove river?
-in AA case would you raise or shove river, and if you raise would you fold to a shove?

and i'm interested the way hand is played, what is your range when you call on turn?

Yeah AA and AQ is basically the same, would play AA the same way. If 2 hits I think it's closer to a fold than a raise but I would always just call.

Time for another drunken story! This is totally random and doesn't really have anything to do with anything, but I finally had a winning day (won the Ongame european daily for $3,6k) so I'm in a good mood. So why not? This is also not even vaguely poker related, but it might be a good idea for me to document these, because one day I'll probably forget about some of these older stories.

My lesbian fire extinguisher story

Back in 2006 I hadn't even heard of Texas Hold'em. At the time I was working in a grocery store in a truly shitty job, but I didn't know of better. The highlights of my life were the ex tempore trips I did with my best friend. He's still my best friend, and some Finnish people may recognize him, but I'll just leave the name out to make sure I don't piss off anyone. For this entire story, we'll just call him "best friend".

So, in the summer of 2006 we bought plane tickets to Barcelona for a 10-day trip. It was pretty random, I think we bought them like a week before. This was the summer when Italy won the soccer world championchips and we were there at the time of the finals. Everyone was crazy about the soccer and there was a 24/7 party going on.

I think out of the 10 days there we got totally smashed on 8 or 9. We were so young (19) at the time that we didn't even catch a hangover. We had a lot of fun nights there, but the lesbian fire extinguisher one was definitely the most interesting one.

So, we had been drinking in some kind of shopping center/night club complex near La Ramblas, the main street of Barcelona. It was exactly the kind of crowded place full of tourists where you shouldn't go unless you're trying to get laid. We were trying to get laid.

We had been drinking since morning and by the time we got there we were pretty drunk, so my memories from our time there are a bit blurry. I remember ordering absinthe, which the waiter set on fire and burning my eyebrows drinking the flaming stuff through a straw. This part didn't have anything to do with the fire extinguisher.

Anyway, fast forward to 4am when the place closed. I'm not sure what has happened, but I find myself walking down the stairs that lead to the street. My friend is sitting halfway with two decent-looking girls. They look both normal-sized and at least from my drunken blurryness I can't notice anything wrong with their faces either. I'm not sure where my friend found them from - he doesn't remember - but anyway I sat down to talk to them.

Early on one of the girls, who turned out to be 20-year-old American exchange students, asked if we wanted to do bananas. If you don't know what bananas mean, go to the MTT Community on 2+2 and ask what's bananas. They'll tell you. Hint: it's a green, leafy product that's not legal in most countries. Jamaican people like this product a lot, as do the characters of Entourage. I don't think either of us had ever done bananas prior to this, but we said yes anyway. She rolled us joints and we started doing bananas in the middle of the stairs.

When I have just started smoking my first-ever joint, I hear a weird noise behind me and my neck starts hurting as if a thousand bees had just stung it. I turn around and see a spanish security guy shooting us with a fire extinguisher. To this date I'm slightly unsure why he didn't for example ask us to toss the joints. I understand they don't want us smoking in front of their club, but wtf a fire extinguisher? He didn't speak any english and he didn't stop before we were covered in that white shit. We both looked like we had been rolling in baking powder.

On the plus side, the girls were covered in the fire extinguisher powder too, and they wanted to take a shower. They invited us to join, and we were happy to. They said they live just a short walk away.

While walked there I chatted up the girl who I thought was prettier. I think she told me where she's from and some normal stuff about her family and so on. I can't remember though. At this time, me and my best friend thought we were going to have a foursome for sure. They lived on the 4th floor, and I remember one of the girls gently touching my cock in the elevator through the pants.

They really seemed like normal girls. That's why were so shocked when we saw their flat. I've never been to such shithole of a place in my life. It was dark. They didn't have any lamps, and they used flashlights to point us where to go. There were stolen bikes inside. There was human (at least I think it was human) shit on the floor. There were drug needles and used condoms. If you've seen Fight Club, this was kinda like the house where Jack lived. They had a couch that was full of cockroaches eating a rotten sandwich.

We didn't care about the house though, because as soon as we got in the girls started taking their clothes off. And when I say their, I mean each others', as they were passionately kissing each other and getting rid of their lingerie. One of the girls, the one I had been chatting to, turned out to be a bit chubby. I swear she looked rather skinny than chubby outside, but when we got in and she had her clothes taken off it's like an overweight tummy just appeared on her out of nowhere.

The girls moved on to the couch, ignoring the cockroaches. "Why are you still having your clothes on?", they yelled to us. We were like "yay, SCORE!", and quickly undressed ourselves. We both had condoms and we put them on. The girls started fingering each other on the couch and seemed ready for action. And JUST when we were about to start, we heard a door open behind us. There was another naked person. A guy.

We asked wtf was going on and covered our genitals with our hands. The girls said it was their roommate who was gay. We asked him to go away, but he refused to. The girls said that they have an agreement with the roommate, Jasper (I think he was Danish but I'm not sure). They bring home guys, and have sex with them on one condition - they have sex with Jasper too. We disagreed to, and they bluntly said "if you don't wanna fuck Jasper, you're not going to fuck us either". Then they turned their attention back to each other and kept rubbing their genitals on the couch.

Jasper, who seemed to be a some kind of druggie - his eyes looked as if he'd been popping exctacy for a week straight and was just laughing by himself all the time not having a clue about the world around him - was very interested in our naked butts and started chasing us around the house. He was really skinny, not exactly the kind of guy who was going to rape either of us, but it was really chaotic and kind of scary anyway. The flat was totally dark (in Barcelona it's basically never dark in July, but the flat was in some dark alley where the buildings were really close to each other, so there was basically no sunlight, and oddly they only had one window despite having three rooms), and there was no light anywhere as the flashlights had been turned off, and he was chasing us and we were running around. The floor was full of shit and drug needles so we tried to avoid them. Actually it's a miracle that neither of us hit any unwanted stuff.

Finally Jasper managed to chase me to a room with no exit. It seemed that he was determined to have some kind of action with me, which I refused to do. So he took a step towards me, and I took a side step at the same time, which led to him falling on his face. This is when I noticed he was REALLY skinny, he must have weighed like 40 kilos something, a total druggie. He would be of no danger. It also seemed that he was too out of his mind to get up, he just stayed lying on the floor laughing hysterically and stroking his own cock, so I just left him there and closed the door behind me.

I went back to the room where the girls were, along with my friend who was still naked watching them have sex with each other. They asked me where Jasper was, and I told them that he was trying to chase me and I semi-accidentally knocked him down, and that he's rolling on the floor laughing and is probably fine. The girls giggled and where like "oh, that's our Jasper" as if they were talking about a pet dog. I asked if they were suuuuuure we'd have to touch Jasper to enter the four-some with them, and they said yes. They told us they were lesbians and weren't really interested in any sex with males, but they did it occasionally because of their agreement with Jasper.

We put on our clothes and left without saying goodbye. When we took the elevator and walked through the dark alley to the bright La Ramblas to catch the morning sun everything just seemed surreal. We looked at each other, started laughing hysterically, and remarked that *no one* is going to believe this story. We both got a massive rash from the fire extinguisher stuff (for those who don't know, it's basically full of really strong chemicals). Our skin was red and full of ugly pimples for two weeks after the trip, and we both had to take antibiotics for it. Because of this not only we didn't manage to get laid in the rest of our holiday, we missed out on the bikini girls back in Finland as well. But I still think it was worth it.

Woohoo,

I now have all my travel plans sorted. This is going to be one great trip. Finding the best flights turned out to be a lot more problematic than I thought, but after four hours of intensive searching I now have everything booked. As a result my bank closed my credit card because they thought someone must have stolen it with me buying 8 different flights and 5 different hotels at 4.30 in the morning

My March looks like this:

3.3 flying to Bangkok with my gf, arriving at 2PM and taking another flight straight to Krabi at 6PM. Diving/snorkeling/surfing/chilling until the 12th.

12.3. flying from Krabi to Bangkok to meet a couple of poker friends and shop and explore the city with my gf. She'll fly home on the 16th, and I...

16.3 ...will fly to Singapore to meet up with a childhood friend. I'll have one day, arriving at 4PM and departing to Australia on an 11PM flight the next day.

18.3 I'll arrive in Melbourne early in the morning, will have 2,5 hours at the airport and then I'll take another flight to Sydney. Finally in Sydney at 11.10AM. I plan to ditch my stuff at the hotel and head straight to the motherfucking Bondi Beach and surf. I plan to get drunk on both friday and saturday, chill at the beach every day and visit all my favourite restaurants and parks and my old house. There's also a poker room where I started grinding $20 live sngs that I hear is still open. I plan to keep grinding to the minimum during the trip but I HAVE to go there and see if any of the same people still grind the same sngs.

23.3. Sadly, I'll have to leave Sydney behind and fly to Perth. I'll play the ANZPT 2,5k Main Event on day 1B on the 24th. I'll arrive at midnight, take a cab to the casino to ensure I have a seat and then head to bed.

26.3. Assuming I've busted the Main, I'll play the 4k highroller (lol at calling a 4k event a highroller).

27.3. I'll fly to Melbourne at 11PM assuming I'm out of everything (this is the final day of both the main and the highroller). I'll arrive at 2AM and I'll have to board the first leg of my return flight at 11PM. I'll probably sleep like 4 hours and then go and explore.

28.3. Arrive in Singapore at 6AM, I'll have about 36 hours there this time. No special plans.

29.3. Boarding a flight to Hong Kong and another straight to Helsinki. Arriving home 11AM on the 30th.

Wow! Sick story. Why no updates on the 100k challenge?

I'll update the challenge before leaving for sure, it's mostly a ton of boring math to do which I try to avoid. Think I won like 6-7k this week up until today when I lost 3,5k, but some of it was satties and I had sold some % off too. I'll post the exact numbers later but I think I'm roughly at $42k.

100k challenge quick update: I won 6,5k last week so my challenge is at:

Withdrawals $38125
Live satties $7625

Total: $45750

I withdrew all of my rolls again because I've had my computer hacked more than once, and now that I'm in Thailand I won't even be able to monitor if something fishy is going on. They don't allow online poker so I'd need a proxy/VPN, and I don't even know how to install one and don't really want to because this is a holiday as far from online poker as possible. I promised to write a couple of articles for PS during the trip though, which I will do as long as the sharks don't eat me. When I come back I have no idea what stakes I'm going to play, it'll depend on how expensive this trip is going to be for me. I'm aiming to spend $10k max including the tournament buy-ins (I sold half my action on 2+2) but we'll see what happens, I'm good at losing my wallets drunk etc.

I went to a sushi course today which was really awesome. An old japanese chef talked about the history of sushi and the japanese gastronomic culture for two hours, then he taught us how to prepare different dishes from scratch, and finally we got to eat everything. It took a total of 5,5 hours and it was well worth the money.

My trip starts in less than 24 hours, can't wait. It's still so ridiculously cold in here, but from tomorrow on I'll wear nothing but shorts and a t-shirt for at least the next month. Life is good. I'll update with a trip report at some point, but probably not before my gf leaves on the 16th. Happy grinds, everyone!

Sounds nice with vacation, too bad you miss the 5th anniversary SM. In one night you could clear the 100k challenge 10 times and a lamborghini challenge one time, if you win that is :)

Btw, about the staking you get, if you would ever be so kind and accept microinvestments (100-300$) I would be very interested in buying a share for next month or so, you're a great player and it would be a nice opportunity for me. Ofc I understand if you only deal with larger sums. Added u as friend if u want to discuss it further.

Have a good one now, don't get burnt!

Arisko,

I'm not staked in any way, just in case you messed the terms:

Staking = when someone backs your entire action, and you get a % of the winnings but don't cover the losses

Selling shares = selling % of myself in a certain single tournament, usually with mark-up.

I sold the ANZPT shares with 1.2 mark-up for example, which covers a nice $600 of my traveling expenses. I usually sell shares for live tournaments that are above $5000 (or if I pay a week of smaller ones that add up to over $5000), but I don't sell any shares for my online action and I'm not staked in any way. Just wanted to clear that out :) If you want to buy % for some random live tournament that's of course fine, I will be asking mark-up though.

I tried to accept your friend request but the whole friend requests page is tilting and I'm not sure if it was accepted or not - can't get back there.
